2 2019 CANTERBURY PARK NEWS & NOTES Dear Prospective Racing Participant: We have been hard at work preparing for an excellent 2019 Live Racing Season. Within this issue of the Canterbury Report, please find information on the following subjects pertinent to the upcoming racing season:» We have hired two new key racing officials, Matt Crawford as our Director of Racing & Racing Secretary and Johnnie Jamison as our Track Superintendent. We are excited to welcome both of them to the team!» Throughout the Fall, Canterbury Park Management oversaw a thorough overhaul of the main track. Throughout the process, the base was reset in its entirety by GPS technology to the elevations used during the original 1985 construction.» In addition, we steamrolled the turf course in an effort to fully reset and level the racing surface following a few consecutive years of very thorough use. Last completed in 2014, this maintenance work left the turf course in excellent shape for winter.» Canterbury Park has been approved to run 66 race days from May 3 - September 14, We anticipate total purses will eclipse $14.25 million or approximately $215,000 per race day.» We have worked hard with the Minnesota HBPA to dedicate additional funding to backside improvements, provide purse payments of no less than $250 to each thoroughbred starter throughout the year and to guarantee a minimum of $500 in purse money to every thoroughbred starter throughout the entirety of the first condition book. 3 Fall 2018 Main Track Renovation Overview Following the conclusion of the 2018 Live Season, the cushion was removed in preparation for motorcycle racing. The top layer of base material was stripped and removed from the track after motorcycle racing concluded. What remained was a very clean layer of limestone to regrade to the original 1985 elevations via a GPS-guided grader. Excess limestone material was picked up and moved to reconfigure and properly contour the elevations of the base.

4 Material was pulled up from the outside of the track to rebuild the proper crown. Following the reconstruction of the crown, work continued across the base of the remainder of the racetrack. The same process of regrading the base to proper GPS specifications was employed throughout. After grading to the GPS specifications, the renovated limestone base was watered and rolled repeatedly.

5 Following the completion of grading the base, the cushion material was slowly moved back into place on the racetrack. Equipment worked diligently to evenly spread the cushion material back across the entirety of the renovated base. A variety of heavy equipment was employed to properly reposition the cushion material. Finally, stockpiled material was brought out to fill areas of the track that were low in cushion material. After properly leveling the material, it was given a final roll to ensure that it was well preserved for the winter. The extensive track work was completed just in time for an early Minnesota winter surprise.

6 2019 CANTERBURY INCENTIVE PROGRAMS In conjunction with the Minnesota HBPA, Canterbury Park is happy to offer three separate shipping and participation incentives during the 2019 Live Racing Season. Incentive #1 - $250 Guaranteed Purse Payment in Overnight Races During the 2019 Racing Season In 2019, every starter in all overnight races will be guaranteed 1% of the purse or $250, whichever is greater (quarter horses will be paid 1% or $125, whichever is greater) with the intent of providing purse money to cover a greater percentage of race-day costs. Incentive #2 - $500 Per Start Participation Incentive for all Thoroughbreds in Condition Book #1 Additionally, every thoroughbred starter in all overnight races during the first Condition Book (May 3 - June 2) will earn an additional $250 participation bonus in every start; therefore, guaranteeing all thoroughbreds a minimum of $500 per start between May 3 and June 2. Please note, this participation incentive will be paid for each start a thoroughbred makes in an overnight race throughout the entirety of Condition Book #1. Incentive #3 - $250,000 Canterbury Park Shipping Loan Program Returning in 2019, Canterbury Park will again offer a shipping loan program to qualified applicants who arrive prior to the start of the 2019 Live Racing Season. Shipping Loan Applications will be due with stall applications and will be reviewed by the stall allocation committee. Upon review, the committee will authorize up to $25,000 per owner to cover the cost of horse transportation to Canterbury Park. The loan will be repaid through an agreement between the successful applicant and Canterbury Park. Full terms and conditions will be available with the 2019 Stall Application.
