Three representatives appointed by the NZTR Board comprising Messrs Tim Barton, Dennis Ryan and John Costello. The functions of the Recommendations Panel are to: Select the Voting Panel comprising a broad range of racing persons, who have extensive knowledge of thoroughbred racing in NZ and reflect the wider racing community and its geographical spread to ensure a broad impartial vote; Select a list of finalists for categories inclusive and 20, from which the Voting Panel must nominate one finalist for each award (full Voting Rules attached); Determine the information to be provided to the Voting Panel, to include the ANZ Ratings and the Free Handicap only in the event these are available at the time the Voting Papers are sent to the Voting Panel; and Communicate all of the above to the appointed members of the Voting Panel. VOTING PANEL The function of the Voting Panel is to nominate one person/horse each from the list of finalists for each of awards 7, 8, inclusive and 20, which are forwarded to an independent auditor, to determine the winners of these awards. The Voting Panel is required to declare any conflict of interest regarding any award on which they are voting and to abstain from voting on the award(s), for which they have a conflict of interest, financial or family as defined in the Declaration of conflict of interests statement, subject to audit by Deloitte. The decision of the Voting Panel is considered final, subject to audit by Deloitte. VOTING RULES In the event of more than one person/horse receiving equal highest votes then multiple winners will be declared. The number of votes awarded to each finalist will be included on the result sheet by the auditor. A list of votes awarded for each finalist in each category will be made available on the NZTR website after the New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Horse of the Year Awards Dinner. Award categories are listed below in order of presentation at the New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Horse of the Year Awards Dinner. Page 1 of 5

2 1. GROSVENOR STALLION OF THE YEAR (NZTBA) The sire whose progeny for the season under review has accumulated the highest stakes earnings in New Zealand only. 2. DEWAR STALLION OF THE YEAR The sire whose progeny has accumulated the highest combined stakes earnings in Australia and New Zealand in the season under review. 3. BROODMARE OF THE YEAR* (NZTBA) A NZTBA Recommendation Panel appointed by the NZTBA comprising three persons independent of but familiar with the thoroughbred breeding industry in NZ determines the nominees. The NZTBA Recommendation Panel then recommends the winner and at least two other finalists to the Council of the NZTBA. The Council of the NZTBA selects the winner, based upon the recommendations of the Recommendations Panel. The winner is the mare whose New Zealand-bred and/or New Zealandconceived progeny, anywhere in the world, most clearly reflects true breeding merit in quality of racing performance in the season under review. 4. BREEDER OF THE YEAR* The Council of the NZTBA and each of the branches of the NZTBA nominate finalists. From the nominations received citations are prepared by the NZTBA in a uniform format and are forwarded to Council members, who each cast a secret vote, the outcome of which under the supervision of an independent scrutineer, determines the winner. 5. CENTAINE AWARD The sire whose New Zealand-conceived progeny for the season under review has accumulated the highest stakes earnings worldwide. 6. NEW ZEALAND BLOODSTOCK FILLY OF THE YEAR Managed by NZ Bloodstock (NZB) Page 2 of 5

3 Three-year-old fillies, stabled in New Zealand, are awarded points for wins or placings in a series of ten races in the season under review. The races carry Group and Listed Status and are over distances from 1200 metres to 2400 metres. The winner is the filly with the most number of points. 7. MEDIA AWARD* Three persons, who have extensive knowledge of the media, are appointed by the NZTR Recommendations Panel to select the finalists. Criteria for the winner are to recognise a high and consistent quality of contribution to racing and/or breeding journalism in the New Zealand thoroughbred code in the season under review through print, TV, radio, internet or other information dissemination platforms. Each member of the Voting Panel nominates one finalist. The winner is the person with the highest 8. JUMPS JOCKEY OF THE YEAR* a. The Jumps Jockey whose mounts in the season under review have won most Prestige jumps races in NZ b. The Jumps Jockey whose mounts in the season under review have won most stake money in NZ c. The NZ Jumps Jockey Premiership winner in the season under review d. Not more than two nominees nominated by the NZ Jumps Inc from outside of the above finalists Finalists must have been domiciled in New Zealand for more than half of the season under review. Each member of the Voting Panel nominates one finalist. The winner is the Jumps Jockey with the highest number of total votes submitted to the Auditor by the Voting Panel before the prescribed deadline 9. McBEATH APPRENTICE JOCKEY OF THE YEAR The rider who has accumulated the most number of NZ wins as an Apprentice Jockey during the season under review. The winner must have been licensed as an Apprentice Jockey by NZTR for all or part of the season under review. 10. JOCKEY OF THE YEAR* Page 3 of 5

4 a. The jockey whose mounts in the season under review have won most Group and Listed races in NZ b. The jockey whose mounts in the season under review have won most stake money in NZ c. The NZ Jockeys Premiership winner in the season under review d. Not more than two nominees nominated by the NZJA from outside of the above finalists Finalists must have been domiciled in New Zealand for more than half of the season under review. Each member of the Voting Panel nominates one finalist. The winner is the Jockey with the highest 11. DUNSTAN TRAINER OF THE YEAR a. The NZ domiciled trainer with most Group and Listed wins b. The NZ domiciled trainer with most stake money won c. The NZ domiciled NZ Trainers Premiership Winner d. Not more than two nominees nominated by the NZTA from outside of the above finalists Finalists in category (a) and (b) must have won these races and earned the stake money with horses domiciled in New Zealand for more than half of the season under review and the trainer must have been licensed by NZTR to train in New Zealand for the season under review. Licensed trainers, Permit-to-train licence holders and Owner-trainer licence holders are eligible for nomination. Each member of the Voting Panel nominates one finalist. The winner is the Trainer with the highest 12. OWNER OF THE YEAR* Finalists comprise the three owners, whose New Zealand-based horses, which are sole, partnership, company or registered syndicate-owned, have earned the highest points in races anywhere in the world determined by the points system. Definition of Owner: 1. An Owner must be registered on NZTR s database of Owners and an active Owner for the season under review 2. A Trainer must hold an NZ Trainers Licence in the season under review. 3. A Syndicate Manager(s) is included as part of each individually named syndicate. 4. In the event that ownership of a horse changes during the season under review that horse will score points for each respective owner while under their ownership. CHAMPION TWO YEAR OLD* 15. CHAMPION THREE YEAR OLD* 16. CHAMPION SPRINTER (-1500M)* 17. CHAMPION MIDDLE DISTANCE HORSE ( M)* 18. CHAMPION STAYER (2101M +)* Finalists comprise the horses selected by the Recommendations Panel. Nominated horses must have been trained by a person holding a NZ licence for the season under review and must have been stabled in NZ with his/her trainer at any time in that season or have raced in New Zealand at least once in the season under review. Selection of winners: Each member of the Voting Panel nominates one horse for each award category from the list of finalists. The winner of each award category is the horse with the highest number of total votes submitted to the Auditor by the Voting Panel before the prescribed deadline 19. OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO RACING* This Award is conferred on those who have made significant and positive long-term contributions to New Zealand Thoroughbred racing at a local, regional, national or international level either in one or in a number of roles in Thoroughbred racing including but not exclusive to training, breeding and riding, administration and regulation, health, welfare and research, education and development, and media and promotion of Thoroughbred racing, as determined in its absolute discretion by the NZTR Board. The Board of NZTR determines the winner. 20. HORSE OF THE YEAR* Finalists comprise all horses selected by the Recommendations Panel as finalists in all the above horses-in-training categories. The Horse of the Year is the horse, which receives the most votes from the Voting Panel for Horse of the Year but does not necessarily have to be a category winner. Page 5 of 5
