1 Taolu Double Gold for China The first two competitions of the 2018 FISU World University Wushu Championship were held in this morning (August 2), where medals were awarded to winners of Women s Taijiquan and Men s Taijijian competitions. For Women s Taijiquan, Wang Xiaohui from China came on top in the competition with a stable performance, scoring 9.56 points. Mok Uen Ying Juanita from Hong Kong, China ranked in the second place, followed by Chin Sydney Sy Xuan from Malaysia. In the subsequent closely-fought Men s Taijijian event, a total of 11 athletes joined this time. Wang Jingshen from China and Yeung Chung Hei from Hong Kong, China occupied the first two places in the standing with 9.53 points and 9.45 points respectively, after nine athletes completing their routines. Chong Ka Seng, from the host city Macao, was the 10th athlete to perform his routine. He impressed the referees with a steadfast performance, scoring 9.47 points, enough to put him just behind the Chinese athlete in the final standing. Sanda Time to Fight The quarter finals of Men s 70-kg and 80-kg Sanda were held at the evening. For the 70-kg category, the first match was between Sahandi Hamidreza from Iran and Gadzhimagomedov Rasul from Russia, in which the Iranian overpowered the Russian in two straight rounds. The second match was a more closely-fought battle between French athlete Bared Irvin and Turkish athlete Altunkaya Nusret Kayhan, in which the Turkish overcame the Frenchman in the decider in 2:1 to advance to the semi-finals. Huang Wenda from the host city Macao took on Lin Hsiu-Wen from Chinese Taipei in the third match. Lin had adopted an aggressive tactic since the start, scoring points after points with different strikes, and advanced to the semi-finals in straight rounds. The night session was concluded with two Men s 80-kg Sanda quarter-finals, in which Batan Yunus Emre from Turkey and Karimi Amir from Iran defeated Kazanatov Bagatyr from Russia and Wang Chih-Wei from USA respectively in straight rounds to advance to the semi-finals. 2 Flash Interview Wang Jingshen China I am well prepared and trained for the competition and today, I am able to play into standards. This is my first time to participate in international competition. To win the championship, I feel happy and excited, hopefully, I can participate in more competitions and gain more experience. Chong Ka Seng Macao, China Participating as a university student and host for the first time, I feel excited and also stressful. I was indeed a little nervous that I was not able to demonstrate all my skills. However, I could remain good concentration. The other participants were also very competitive.
