The 58th Annual Seaway Festival Car Show & Flea Market was a great success. Thank you to all the Cruiser members who helped with all the jobs. The weather was good and the show went very well. We had 187 cars register but not everyone registered so we had about two hundred cars on the field. Thank you to one and all. With the big show behind us, we can now get on with August. There are a few cruise-ins and car shows left this summer. Here are some dates in August that are good ones: Wednesday, August 15th Cruise-in and BBQ from 5 to 8 p.m. at Riverledge Health Center and Nursing Home, Ogdensburg. Bring a chair. Saturday, August 18th Cruise-in at Thousand Islands International Bridge Systems 80th Anniversary Celebrations at Collins Landing from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 22nd Super Cruise-in in downtown Brasher Falls from 4-8 p.m. Some weekly cruise-ins are still going: Wednesdays 6-8 p.m. Cruise-in at Twin Leaf in Hogansburg Thursdays 5 8 p.m. Cruise-in Highway Legends, Starbuck Ave, Watertown. "Red" Grandy Excerpted from full obituary found at Francis Red Grandy, 96, of Hermon passed away after a short illness on Wednesday morning August 8, Arrangements are with the O Leary Funeral Service in Canton. Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 13th, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Friday, the 14th, starting at 11:00 am. Following the service will be a gathering of family and friends at 456 Lazy River Road, Hermon, NY. Francis Grandy was born on the Grandy Farm in the town of Russell, NY on January 26, In 1946 Red enrolled at USC and asked photo department head Doug Kilgour for a job. Turned down the first time Red went out and got a shot that he sold to the Los Angeles Daily News. He brought the photo and story back to Kilgour and was hired on the spot. Graduating in 1950 he had the opportunity to go to Europe with a friend from USC. Red was invited to attend a dinner at the Stars and Stripes Newspaper Headquarters in Darmstadt. There he met S&S Managing Editor, Ken Zumwalt and was told about an opening on the photo staff. After an initial no, Zumwalt agreed to give Red a trial run. In the first four months working for S&S Red took the award winning, I ll Be Darned photo of Dwight D. Eisenhower in response to news of Truman s decision to replace Gen. MacArthur with Gen. Ridgway. Later after running in almost every newspaper and magazine in the US, Gen. Eisenhower sent Red a signed copy of the photo with an inscription which read For Red Grandy, who in this picture, surprised an old soldier. The I ll Be Darned photo hangs today as the first photo on the wall as you enter the Stars and Stripes Offices in Washington, DC. Based at the Darmstadt Headquarters, Red archived a pivotal time in our history, documenting post WWII and Cold War era events, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Miracle on Ice historic US hockey team win against Russia in the Lake Placid 1980 Winter Olympic Games. Photographing major world leaders, celebrities and iconic figures and several American Presidents. Red did almost anything to get the shot, only missing one deadline in his 35 year prolific career. Later in life Red enjoyed hosting parties at Lazy River Playground built by his father in the early 1940s, spending time with his grandchildren and friends and giving rides in his prized Amphibious car he had shipped from Germany. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hermon Cemetery in his honor. 3 Ask A Tech: Future of My Car Brandon Baldwin We are just coming off the peak of the car show season showing our own cars or working at the Seaway Cruisers Car show. We can see the end of the season in sight. We may not want to think about it right now, but we should also think about the future of our cars. Of course, you may be thinking about what will you be doing to store your car for the winter. This would include battery storage, fuel system drainage or stabilization, using Bounce sheets to keep the mice away, and something to keep the snow or moisture away from the finish. Yes, this is all true, but have you thought about what to do with your car once you aren't the one driving it anymore? Of course, this may be a morbid thought, but many of us have noticed that almost everyone at the car shows are senior citizens. I'm bringing this up because this isn't only happening here in the North Country, but all over the US and Canada. I'm going through the process of figuring out the paperwork for my father's cars. What do you do when you don't have paperwork for a car that is sitting in the barn, and it's been there so long that you can no longer go back to the original owner for a lost title because they died years ago? What do you do when you can't find the title to even a car that is currently on the road but have lost the title? Here is a solution for the second problem: dmv.ny.gov/registration/replace-title-certificate If you aren't the type to go on-line, you can go to the DMV to ask questions and even get the right paperwork going. This effort on your part will make the effort on your children's part much, much easier. One of my trips to the DMV, I had the luxury of hearing a gentleman who was going through his father's things after death, but he had left little to no paperwork behind. The unfortunate part was that some of the machinery would have to be destroyed because...have you thought about what to do with your car once you aren't the one driving it anymore? he had no proof of ownership. I don't want this to happen to my worldly goods, and I know my father doesn't either. That's why I had to put this in our letter.
