All athletes should check in on arrival at the Australian Institute of Sport pool each day. Parents are not required to check their children in. Departure The Development Camp concludes on Saturday at 5.00pm, and on Sunday at 4.00pm. Athletes will be advised when they are able to leave for the day. Parent access Parents are welcome to watch the pool sessions. However, they are not permitted to interfere with the coaching session (i.e. approach the coaches, speak with athletes). Parents are not able to attend the education or strength and conditioning sessions. However, you are welcome to sit on the referee sessions. 4 Athletes will not have time to go to the AIS café between sessions for food. They will be permitted to go to the café during the lunch break, however this would be at their own cost. Breakdown of sessions The Camp will consist of the following sessions: Pool sessions Strength & Conditioning Education sessions Referee sessions Yoga The sessions have been structured to not only develop skills as a water polo player, but also as a holistic athlete. The sessions will be conducted in age groups (14&Under and 18&Under), athletes must remain with their age group. The Strength & Conditioning sessions, and some education sessions will be conducted in smaller groups. Athletes will be assigned a group number on check-in and must remain with that group. Moving between sessions There is limited time between sessions, athletes should move between their sessions as quickly as possible. If they arrive late, session experience will be limited. If athletes are running late they should join the group with as little disruption as possible. Pool Sessions Each age group will have 3-4 pool sessions across the weekend. The pool sessions will encompass the following elements: Physical testing Skills development Game tactic education Modified games Goalkeepers will have specific training provided to them on Saturday, with development across the weekend. Strength & Conditioning The strength & conditioning sessions have been coordinated by the Australian Institute of Sport and will conducted by a qualified trainer. The sessions will provide athletes with an overview of the conditioning expectations they need as they move along the developmental pathway. Yoga All players will participate in a yoga session on Sunday. This session will focus on stretching, flexibility and relaxation techniques.
5 Please note, health forms must be completed to participate in this session. Forms must be handed in at check in. Due to the nature of yoga, athletes with significant wrist or shoulder injuries should consider their participation in this activity. Education sessions The education sessions are designed to support the holistic development of athletes. The Nutrition sessions will be delivered by Erica Stephens (BAppSc, MNutrDiet, IOC Dip Sport Nutr) an Accredited Sports Dietitian, Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Nutritionist. The sessions will provide athletes with information about fuelling their bodies to meet training demands. The Personal Excellence sessions will be delivered by Dr Stuart Cathcart a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). The sessions will focus on the supporting the psychological needs of athletes and balancing their sporting, education and social demands. Referee sessions The Referee session will provide athletes with an overview of the rules and interpretation of the rules from a referee s perspective, and how athletes can better interact with referees. The sessions will be delivered by FINA referee Andrew Carney. Code of conduct Water Polo ACT is committed to providing a safe, fair and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our sport.
