1 13 JAN Release of SCCN Guidelines and Carbon Neutral University Campus initiative Aniket S Kelkar and Yashwant S Kelkar adopted Banyan and Chafa Trees in the memory of their daughter, Late Anandi Aniket Kelkar at Smritivan - Warje, Pune. Ajinkya A Kelkar, brother of Late Anandi took the entire responsibility of the adoption. The family also showed a thoughtful gesture by doing bone burial instead of bone immersion (which is a hindu ritual). The family believes that the life of Late Anandi will be rooted in the tree to nurture it. 13 JAN On 16th January 2019, the fourth edition of TERRE Olympiad ( ), the National level online environment-based quiz competition was celebrated with the grand Award ceremony in Dr. Sarabhai Puli audio KV2 Cantt, Delhi. Hon. Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India, graced the event as a chief guest, and awarded the TERRE Olympiad Award Ceremony students and schools in various categories. TERRE Olympiad was supported by TATA Motors and Symantec Solutions. Dignitaries from Partner organization and National Academies were also present on the dais such as Mr. Vinod Kulkarni (TATA Motors CSR Head), Mr. Deepak Maheshwari (Symantec Director, Government Affairs India, ASEAN & China), Mr. Santosh Kumar Mall (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Commissioner), Mr. Bishwajit Kumar Singh (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti Commissioner) and Dr. Embrace and Enhance the Earth s Beauty. Don t litter on roads, don t throw plastics in ocean and keep the surroundings clean. Director s Corner She (The Earth) should feel very special on Valentine s Day!! - Dr. Vinitaa Apte Founder Director TERRE
2 Vinitaa Apte (Founder Director TERRE Policy Centre) We have started this Olympiad in the year 2015 with a small number of participation, but it is now becoming one of the popular online quiz. In the year 2019, we are certainly going to cross our geographical boundaries and build strong association with neighbouring countries through Olympiad, said Dr. Vinitaa Apte. It is our honor to have Hon. Minister HRD Mr Prakash Javadekar as a Chief Guest for the award ceremony right from the 1st year of TERRE Olympiad, she added. To overcome environmen-
3 tal issues like natural disasters, pollution and climate change, our youth needs to be motivated for sustainable lifestyle and choices. This would encourage them in developing eco-solutions by using their imagination, intelligence and creativity for sustainable future. For this, there has definitely been an im- pressive growth in environmental sensitivity among them. Students should be environmental ambassadors, said Mr. Prakash Javadekar
4 After the grand Success of TERRE Olympiad , TERRE policy Centre is launching now TERRE Olympiad - For Teachers in collaboration with Earth Day Network. TERRE Olympiad for Teachers will also be a National Level online environment awareness based Quiz Competition, which will be conducted on a fixed day of every month for next 18 months. It is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, mainly because of habitat loss and degradation. It has also been called labiated bear because of its long lower lip and palate used for sucking insects. Compared to brown and black bears, the sloth bear is lankier, has a long, shaggy fur and a mane around the face, and long, sickle-shaped claws. It evolved from the ancestral brown bear during the Pleistocene and through convergent evolution shares features found in insecteating mammals. wiki/sloth_bear (P.C: Samiul Kabir) Project Leader Due to climate change this year winters in Maharashtra feels like Kashmir!!
