1 World Archery New office baby On 3 July 2013 at 18:06, our office coordinator Jenny BRUGGER gave birth to a baby boy. His name is Achille and he measured 49cm for 3460gr at birth. Mom and baby are doing well! Here is Achille pictured with his older brother Victor and sister Eve. Congratulations to our colleague Jenny and her husband Luc! 2 July 2013 World Archery Newsletter Page 2 Future Events Turin 2013 World Master Games Important information for participants For the archery competition in the World Master Games, athletes are required to show their national membership card which will also automatically serve as medical certificate. If they do not show a membership card then they will need to show a medical certificate. Past Events Medellin World Cup Stage 3 The city of Medellin, Colombia, had the honour to host the third stage of the 2013 World Cup for the first time in the South American continent from 15 to 21 July The event was a great success thanks to the work accomplished by the Colombian Archery Federation and the local authorities which have delivered multiple promotion events, mostly for the youth. Local organisers registered more than 70 accredited journalists and photographers. The excellent results obtained by the Colombian compound women archers at the second World Cup stage in Antalya, certainly boosted the enthusiasm for this event. The archery competition was an excellent showcase for revealing the organisational and operational potential of the city. Qualification and preliminary elimination rounds took place from July at the Luis-Alberto Villegas baseball stadium, located in the Atanasio Girardot sport complex. The stadium also hosts famous football teams Atlético Nacional and Independiente. The finals were staged on July at the foot of an emblematic city centre building, the Edificio Inteligente. In the individual competition, Colombia found a second new star: Alejandra USQUIANO (photo), who defeated Erika JONES (USA) for the women s compound title. On the men s side, Reo WILDE (USA) won his first individual World Cup title of the year. With a little help from the wind, the French men s team won its first gold medal since 2008, while the US women defeated Colombia in a rematch of the Antalya World Cup. Finally, the compound mixed team champion was Italy. On the recurve side, China s DAI Xiaoxiang won the men s individual title and the mixed team gold medal paired with CUI Yuanyuan. On the women s side, Russia s Inna STEPANOVA claimed the second World Cup victory of her career. The Mexican men won their first-ever World Cup team gold medal, while the Indian women brought the gold home for the first time since Find all news and Nove Mesto Para-Archery World Ranking Event The Czech town of Nove Mesto nad Metuji hosted the second world ranking para-archery event of the year from 1 to 7 July. Para-archery celebrated its last meeting before the Bangkok World Championships in November after the Thai capital city already hosted a world ranking event in March. Find all

3 July 2013 World Archery Newsletter Page 3 Coaching Help wanted in Coaching Education Revision of the WA Level 1 Coaching Manual In order to finalise the revision of the WA Level 1 Coaching Manual, WA is looking for a Coaching Education Editor who ideally meets the profile below: Be a WA experienced level 1 (or more) archery coach. A WA certification as Coach Trainer would be an advantage. Fluent writing skills in English, mother tongue preferred (proofreading experience is an asset). Computer skills to make and edit coaching documents for the manual, which is currently drafted in Word Available for one entire week (before the end of 2013) during which he/she will work with the Chairman of the WA Coaches Committee and the WA Education Director All expenses (travel, hotel, meals) will be paid by WA. Daily allowances can be considered, please indicate your expectations. Send your application by to WA office with a simple letter of motivation and your archery resume. Development WA carries out successful programme at the 2013 Mediterranean Games The XVII edition of the Mediterranean Games was hosted in the city of Mersin (TUR) and archery was present with a record participation of 15 countries. These games are very important for all Olympic sports since the IOC evaluates the popularity, visibility and participation of the present sports on the Olympic programme. In consequence, the WA Development Department has put in place an assistance programme, to help the countries in their preparation and participation for these games to guarantee a maximum participation. Training camps were organised for San Marino and Montenegro before the Games in view of their participation. Equipment was given to Egypt, Greece and Malta, thanks to the support of our Development Fund Partners Hoyt, Easton and Win & Win. Additionally, some of the countries were assisted to travel to Mersin due to the economic crisis in several Mediterranean countries. Good results were achieved by most of the countries and mostly, the surprising gold medal of the Egyptian male team in the recurve category against Spain, in front of strong nations such as Italy, France, Slovenia, and Turkey. The medal standing is as follow: 1. Italy; 2. Spain; 3. Egypt; 4. France. WA would like to thank all parties involved for making these Games a success for archery.

4 July 2013 World Archery Newsletter Page 4 Bhutan ICECP edition The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the University of Delaware created a programme for the certification of national coaches from all sports, called "International Coaching Certification Programme" (ICECP). Tshering CHODEN (BHU), former coach of Bhutan national team and WA level I coaches course conductor, has recently been granted an Olympic Solidarity Coaches Scholarship to attend the ICECP She will follow the first two modules of the programme at the University of Delaware (USA) and the last module in Lausanne, Switzerland, home of the International Olympic Committee and International Sports Federations. World Archery would like to congratulate Tshering for her devotion to archery and looks forward to collaborating with her in the near future. Olympic Solidarity Programmes 2014 Youth Olympic Games Athletes scholarship programme WA Development Department would like to remind all WA Member Associations of the athlete scholarship programme in view of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. Please note that all archers in recurve discipline, with the minimum MQS, born between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 1999, may apply for an Olympic Solidarity (OS) athlete s scholarship for the preparation and participation at the 2014 Youth Olympic in Nanjing, China through their respective National Olympic Committee and copy WA Development Department. The scholarship is a great and unique opportunity for the archers. It provides financial assistance to athlete in order to train, participate in major tournaments that will allow a possible qualification for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. United Nations Sport for Development and Peace Archery at the next UN Youth Leadership Camp in Gwangju (KOR) UN Sport for Development and Peace Department organises several youth leadership camps to empower future generations and enhance their communities through sports. The upcoming camp will take place from 22 August 3 September 2013 in Gwangju, Korea. Archery has been included for the first time at the upcoming training camp from August 2013, as a demonstration sport. KIM Soo Nyung (KOR) is coordinating the event and PARK Sally (KOR) has been appointed as the facilitator. In total, 35 participants from all over the world, aged between 18 and 25, will try the sport of archery at Gwangju Women s University archery field. Additionally, two participants at this camp are from Nepal and Bhutan.

5 July 2013 World Archery Newsletter Page 5 Assistance among African countries The Uganda Archery Federation has recently assisted the newly formed Rwanda Archery Federation. Hassan Mwesigye BABU, an archery coach from Uganda, has been appointed to give an introduction to archery, and to select the coaches who will attend a Level 1 Regional Olympic Solidarity Technical course for archery coaches in Uganda (15-23 October 2013). The training was held at the Rwanda National Olympic & Sport Committee. Despite of lack of archery equipment, everything went well. All charges were for the Rwanda Archery Federation that shows a strong motivation to develop our sport. Such collaboration among WA Member Associations from Africa deserves to be acknowledged and congratulated by the WA family. 6th Namibian Nationals at DTS The 6th Namibian Nationals took place from June 2013 at Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS) venue. In total, 46 archers from different clubs (Walvisbay, Tsumeb, Lüderitz and Windhoek) competed and a new record was set during the event. Here below are some significant results: Francois MARAIS, scored 1369 including 360 at 30m, compound men FITA Round Hanné SNYMAN, scored 1389, compound division, girls under 13 Ruan van STADEN, won in compound cadet men WA Bangkok Partner Centre The last day of the event was dedicated to a compound round with match play to determine the new national champions in different categories. The event was a great success, enjoyed by all the participants and spectators. Alfredo Lobo das NEVES (RSA) officiated as a judge for the event, and the Namibian Archery Federation would like to thank him for his time and dedication. That fight came to an end on 18 July Alf was a leading light in UK archery and recently served as Archery GB President, as well as holding a number of other positions. Whilst the IOC s database has been updated, the databases of the International Federations (IFs) have to be changed as well. Performances World Records Dutchman Peter ELZINGA posted another record-breaking performance on 7 July 2013 at the Netherland s Nationals in Almere.
