1 MFI SIG 556P/2 Hand Guard Retaining Ring Installation Instructions 100% MADE IN THE USA! All NFA Rules Apply. First of all I would NOT even offer these parts if I did not feel that 98% of you SIG 556 owners could do this. A sure way to tell is to look at the list of required tools... If you have 75% of the tools already then YOU CAN DO THIS!! If not then you might want to have a friend help you or hire a gunsmith to complete this project. Required tools / parts: 1 - SIG 556 Pistol 1 - Propane Gas Torch & Protective Tinted Glasses, BBQ Grill or open flame from a gas stove works too. 1 - Crescent Wrench or 3/4 inch Box Wrench 1 - Set of Gloves & Safety Glasses 1 - Block of wood 2 - Flat Head Screw Drivers (SIG Front Take Down Pin) file:///c / (1 of 15) [2/18/2012 4:07:34 PM]

3. Remove the cocking handle and bolt / bolt carrier. Just behind the cocking handle you will see on the bolt body a black lever with raised ribs on it that is spring loaded.

If you have a rail with a Nail File Rear Sight you will want a bag to keep all the small parts that fall out from that area just under the rear sight.

Press down on the lever (see photo & SIG 556 instructions) and pull out the cocking handle. The bolt and carrier are now free to slide out the back of the weapon. 4. Remove the top rail. If you have a rail with a Nail File Rear Sight you will want a bag to keep all the small parts that fall out from that area just under the rear sight. You may want to carefully watch as they fall out and remember the order. Yes you MUST remove this rail (which is super easy to do) in order to get the original SIG Hand Guard off as well as the new 556/2P MFI HG. Hand Guards do NOT need to be removed to clean the weapon. So to avoid breaking the tabs of the hand guards you should leave them in place unless you need to clean the outside of the gas tube. file:///c / (3 of 15) [2/18/2012 4:07:34 PM]

4 5. Remove the Hand Guards. 6. Remove the Flash Suppressor. This may require a torch or serious heat. Two of the seven SIG 556s that I have removed the Flash Suppressor from required the flash suppressor to glow orange before the Loctite lost it's grip. The flash suppressor will spin freely off without the use of a wrench, meaning easily but, use a wrench to avoid burning your hands. Now repeat the same procedure of depressing the plunger and turning the Gas Tube counter-clockwise and pull it out.

5 7. Remove the Gas Tube & Recoil Spring. This is done by depressing the spring plunger and turning the Gas Valve counter-clock-wise. (see SIG 556 instructions) Then pull off the Gas Valve. The recoil spring may or may not come out with the valve. If not do not worry. Now repeat the same procedure of depressing the plunger and turning the Gas Tube counter-clockwise and pull it out. 7 So now comes the part that seems the scariest but, there is no reason to wet yourself and cry for your mommy. If you got your flash suppressor off via a torch then this step will be really easy for you in comparison. This part is as easy as it gets and you will end up thinking you are one great gunsmith by doing it. The fact of the matter is that apart from missing with the hammer and hitting your own thumb or scratching the gas block with a hammer blow; you can NOT screw this up. The pins are NOT held in by glue or anything else. They will drive out easily. I use a wooden block with a hole or notch cut in it to allow the gas block to sit flat and have the hole in the wood line up with the Roll Pin that is being driven out the other side. It does not matter which side you start from. You can NOT screw this up because the barrel is machined with 2 locating slots for these roll pins. When you re-install the gas block you simply line the gas block up with the barrel notches by looking through it. You can even pre-start one roll pin and line it up by looking through the empty hole. 8. Drive out the 2 Roll Pins that hold the Gas Block to the Barrel. file:///c / (7 of 15) [2/18/2012 4:07:34 PM]

Replace the Gas Block using the same method as removal but, in
