Page 1 ANTIQUE MOTORCYCLE CLUB OF AMERICA (AMCA) THE AMCA SOUTH FLORIDA EVERGLADES CHAPTER LINES Chapter News President Roy Wasson Secretary Penny Anderson Vice President Wes Scott Treasurer Clare Frost Editor: Bob Anderson Glenham Drive NE Palm Bay, Florida RAnder0345@aol.com Web Site: Frame-Off Restoration of the Everglades Chapter: By Roy Wasson, Chapter President (The Original Nightrider) Thanks to our members for the honor of electing me to return to the position of President of this chapter that I formed more than ten years ago. And thanks to outgoing President Jack Stauffer for his leadership over the last several years. The chapter has been through some ups and downs, with tough challenges due largely to bad economic times that have hurt many nonprofits and volunteer organizations. Now that the recession is on the way out, it is my hope and expectation that the Everglades Chapter can and will return to the size and level of activity we once enjoyed. Antique motorcycle enthusiasts love the challenge of taking a rusty, dusty, almost wornout piece of machinery, stripping it down to the frame, and restoring it to the gleaming glory of the past. This is my challenge to you, our loyal members, to make that happen with the frame-off restoration of the Everglades Chapter. Our rebuilding process so far includes welcoming back some returning members. At our board meeting in Vero Beach on March 22 we unanimously elected Clare Frost to fill the
Page 2 position of Treasurer made vacant by the resignation of Kelli Webb. Please join me in extending thanks to Kelli for her past service and extending the hand of welcome to Clare. We also unanimously elected Clive Taylor to the position of director, which vote was undoubtedly based in part on the fact that Clive has more antique show bikes on display in his living room than most of us have ever had in our garages. Next let me thank one of our most important founding members, Mike Pruszynski, for agreeing to stay on as webmaster of the chapter. Mike s work in keeping up the Everglades Chapter s online presence has earned him the title of the chapter s first, and so far only, Honorary Member. Here is the first thing you, our readers, can do to help in the rebuilding process: Make plans to attend our next chapter ride and meeting, which starts from chapter Vice-President Wes Scott s shop on April 26, and invite at least one non-member to come along. At our brief business meeting at the Bad Boys of England (formerly the Kings Head Pub) in Dania Beach following that ride, we will encourage our guests to join the chapter. Another thing we all can do is print off some of the membership enrollment forms, found here in the newsletter and on our website, and carry them with you when visiting motorcycle shops and attending biker functions. I look forward to seeing you and your guests at our upcoming event in Broward County, and thank you for your help in restoring the Everglades Chapter to the Winners Circle. A Message from the Editor: Anderson By Bob I ve been away from the Editor Function for awhile and am excited about getting back to building the Chapter Newsletter. In the past we always printed and mailed the letter to the membership. The activity was time consuming, and expensive, so much so that we ve decided to publish an all electronic newsletter and send it out via an format. This electronic function allows much more flexibility in creating the letter. We no longer have to worry about the letter getting so large that it will cost extra postage, and we can insert as many color PICs as we want, without worry about how much the copy center is going to charge us for color copies. It s a small inconvenience for those of us who do not have an account, but a huge savings in time and expense for the Chapter. Please enjoy the new Newsletter and all the color PICs. Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show: By Wes Scott The weather was perfect! The bikes were fantastic! The crowds were thrilled! The Wes Scott Booth This briefly summarizes this year's Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show event that was held on Saturday, January 31, This event, put on since day one by Clive Taylor and Clare Frost, draws more and more classic
Page 3 motorcycles and attendees every year. Roy Wasson, the guy in the green shirt kneeling down on one knee with his back to us is the new President of the Everglades Chapter of the AMCA. The O riginal Night Rider (Roy Wasson) He was having a great time at the show, along with the rest of us, admiring a large amount of classic motorcycles including two (2) Brough Superior motorcycles brought to the show by a very serious enthusiast. We also got to meet and greet many familiar faces during the day who share the same passion for Antique, Vintage, and Classic motorcycles as do we as members of the Everglades Chapter. (Editor s Note: Here s a few of the many PICs that were taken at this show.)

Page 5 I have been a sponsor of this event since its beginning but this is the first time that I actually closed the shop and put up a booth at the show so I could join in the fun. I was then able to meet many new faces as well as many of my long time customers. It was a wonderful experience and is a great venue to promote membership for the Everglades Chapter. I can't wait until next year!!!!! Everglades Chapter of the AMCA April 26 Ride: By Wes Scott Starting point: Wes Scott Cycles Inc NW 8 th Terrace Ft. Lauderdale, FL Phone: Ending point: Bad Boys of England (formerly the Kings Head Pub) 500 East Dania Beach Blvd. Dania Beach, FL Phone: As for the ride in April (on Saturday night April 26, 2014) I have already made arrangements to have our dinner stop at the Kings Head Pub at 8:00 PM with a ride from my shop first. We will be meeting at the shop (Wes Scott Cycles
Page 6 Inc., 4608 NW 8th Terrace, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309) at 6:30 PM. We will plan on leaving the shop at 7:00 PM and will be riding along a route along the beach and behind the Ft. Lauderdale Airport before arriving at the Kings Head Pub at 8:00 PM for dinner. As seating will be outside we should have plenty of room and they have motorcycle parking right in front of their outside dining area which will work out well. Richard, the owner, is looking forward for our visit to the Kings Head Pub which is now called Bad Boys of England. The fine venue is located about ½ mile east of US-1 on the south side of Dania Beach Blvd. booth in hopes of attracting new members. Our location was undercover and provided protection from inclement weather but also denied one ray of sunshine. But that didn t stop onlookers and potential chapter interests. Sunshine Chapter AMCA National Meet: By Penny Anderson March 7 th & 8 th were the dates to attend the Sunshine Chapter s AMCA National Meet AND indeed many fanatics for the antique motorcycles joined forces to show their support of these vintage bikes. Whether you were a vendor, owner (new and old) or spectator, there were plenty of things to see and/or participate in. Bob and I arrived around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday the 6 th (Check-in). By that time, many early arrivals were already in place. We received our parking pass and then proceeded to find our location and set-up camp. The weather was definitely not ideal by any means; rain and rather cold temperatures lead to soft grounds and a jacket/umbrella for sure. Once our truck/camper and trailer were in place, we walked around and viewed those who arrived early also. The biggest attraction that rounded out our day was watching a gigantic motor home with trailer attempting to vacate a location by the help of a tractor with little or no success. On Friday, the activity started at 7 a.m. The gates were opened and more vendors arrived getting ready for those prospective buyers. By mid morning, I started to set up our chapter Penny at the Everglades Chapter Booth By noon, the place was hopping with activity. At 1 p.m., AMCA field events were taking place. Always a spectator s delight. At 7:30 p.m., Bob and I attended the banquet; a Low Country Seafood Boil. If you like seafood, this would be the place to be. Shrimp, mussels, tuna fish, a crab dish along with boiled potatoes, onions and corn on the cob made up a delicious feast. A perfect ending for the day Thanks Sunshine Chapter! Saturday, the weather was nearly perfect. The wind made for cool breezes and the sun gave us warmth for pleasing temps. More spectators than ever were appearing. This would be the last day for activities/event. Since the sun was such a welcome sight, I decided to walk around and visit with people. A good decision for sure as the end result was signing up three new members. (See pics below).
Page 7 Troyce Walls-(Titusville) Owns Many Hondas, Puch, Allstate, BSA, etc. Bikes as shown and vintage antiques. The third person to join our club was Eric Lachoff from Pompano Beach. He owns a 1937 Indian Chief and a 1941Harley 45. Unfortunately my camera was unavailable to take a pic of Eric riding off on his Indian Chief. (Isn t that the way it usually goes?) The end of the day was highlighted by the AMCA judged show. There were several entrees; an array from the small Honda trail bikes to an antique 1937 Indian Motorcycle with sidecar. A true mixture for all personal tastes. Craig Graves-(Zephyr Hills) along with Sandra Smith. Bob and Crew, Judging Asian Motorcycles
Page 8 Our own club member, Robert Brandner had three different Hondas in the show. All were outstanding and NOT surprising to note, all three won recognition. Way to go Bob! The 37 th Annual Vero Beach Antique Auto & Motorcycle Show: By Penny Anderson Dark clouds and sprinkles of rain didn t dampen the spirits of many participants and spectators to the Antique Auto & Motorcycle show held at the Riverside Park in Vero Beach on March 22 nd. Bob and I arrived early in the a.m. and luckily had the perfect spot to display his 1974 Honda CL 360, 1971 Honda CL 450 AND to view all whom would arrive for the event. At noon, President Roy and Carol joined in on our motorcycle gathering around the big oaks. Then Alan Berry and his son Adam along with friend Howard came a little late to register for the show (due to traveling weather conditions) but was welcomed in with their 39 Triumph and 66 Triumph Bonneville respectfully. After some confusion as to whom would judge the bikes, it was determined that Bob A. would be doing the honors. From start to finish (15-20 minutes), tabulation results were compiled and the results were given to the show coordinator Clark Ballard. Bob Brandner and his wife, Evelyn, would be the next to arrive with their two Hondas; 71 CB 100 and a 80 CB 125. Then Florida George (George Quinn) came with his 1947 Harley Davidson Knucklehead. By this time, the 5 bikes had plenty of viewers. Many a comment started out, I use to have a bike when I was in High School and the stories would begin. Now it was time to EAT!! Carol was so gracious to scout out a restaurant prior to the show, so our destination was the Riverside Café, a short walking distance away. Friendly atmosphere and plenty of customers (noise too!!) assured us of good food. After our food was ordered, Roy conducted a short meeting. When we adjourned, just like clockwork, our food was served. After returning to the show, we awaited the trophy presentation. Roy & Carol took in the automobiles before heading back home. Alan, Adam and Howard also headed out
Page 9 early. At 2:30 p.m., Bob B., Florida George, Bob & myself headed for the AACA tent for the conclusion of the show. (Evelyn stayed with the bikes.) All four of us then headed back under the oaks for a photograph session. The motorcycle trophies were the last to be announced. Congratulations!!! goes to Florida George for his Outstanding Bike and Best of Show went to Bob B., (the Honda CB 100). Congratulations to Bob B. and George once again AND the Everglades Chapter for their pride in those vintage motorcycles.
