FROM: Dick Cooke, chair NCAA Baseball Rules Committee. Jim Paronto, secretary-rules editor NCAA Baseball Rules Committee. SUBJECT: Preseason Reminder and Baseball Rules and Umpiring Video. In advance of the 2014 baseball season, the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee wishes to remind member institutions of the increased penalties that went into effect during the 2013 season. Of particular note is Rule 2-25 A.R. 6, which states that when an assistant, player or team other than the head is ejected for disputing an umpire s decision or for unsportsmanlike conduct or language, he will receive a one-game in addition to the game. There will be a three-game for subsequent s in the same season. The individual institution will see that all s are served. Additionally, please be aware that according to Rule 2-25 A.R. 7, no team may argue or continue to excessively express themselves with prolonged actions or offensive language following an. The penalty for violations of this rule is a two-game in addition to the game. Suspension penalties were also increased for other s such as fighting or physical abuse of a game official. In order to more conveniently assist member institutions with being knowledgeable of what and penalties apply to various acts of unsportsmanlike conduct addressed in the NCAA Baseball Rules Book, the Baseball Rules Committee has developed a penalty chart for this purpose and it appears below this memorandum.
2 Page No. 2 Also, the 2014 NCAA Baseball Rules Video was recently shown at the ABCA Convention and during the annual NCAA umpiring clinics.
