CBS coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET and kickoff is set for 8:28 p.m. ET. The night meeting in Baton Rouge is the first between the Gators and Tigers since Florida leads the all-time series, and is in Baton Rouge. The Gators enter the contest 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference, while LSU is 5-0 on the year and 3-0 in the league. GATOR STORYLINES Florida head coach Urban Meyer is 10-1 following a loss. Coach Meyer-led teams have dropped back-to-back games only once during his sevenyear career (Bowling Green vs. Northern Illinois, Nov. 9, 2002, and South Florida, Nov. 16, 2002). COACHING MATCHUP Both Florida head coach Urban Meyer and LSU head coach Les Miles were among the 21 current head coaches that started with their current school in the 2005 season. The chart below compares the two head coaches while with their current teams: Coach Meyer Coach Miles Total Wins National Titles 1 0 Conference Titles 1 0 BCS Bowl Wins 1 1 Bowl Wins 2 2 Wins at Home Wins Over Top 5 Teams 3 2 Losses to Top 5 Teams 0 2 Wins Over Top 10 Teams 5 5 VS. NO. 1 RANKED TEAMS By leading the Gators to a win over Tennessee earlier this year; UF head coach Urban Meyer improved his record against ranked teams while with the Gators to Overall, Coach Meyer is 12-3 against ranked teams. Florida is 2-6 all-time against the nation s No. 1 ranked team. Both wins earned Florida a national championship (Jan. 2,1997, vs. Florida State, Sugar Bowl, W, 52-20, and on Jan. 8, 2007, vs. Ohio State, BCS National Championship, W, 41-14). The two are among the five largest margins of victory for a ranked team vs. a No. 1 ranked team in college football history. Since Jan. 1, 1997, Florida is the only school in the nation to defeat two teams ranked No. 1 in the AP poll. Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas own the SEC record for most wins over an AP No. 1 ranked team in the history of the program with three each. Alabama s Bear Bryant and Arkansas Frank Broyles are the only coaches in Southeastern Conference history to lead their league team to a pair of wins over the No. 1 team in the nation. There are only two active NCAA Division I head coaches that have led their team to more than one victory over a No. 1 ranked team (Joe Paterno, Penn State, 3 and Dennis Erickson, Arizona State, 2). In the history of college football, the nation s AP No. 1 ranked team has been defeated or tied 120 times. No team has ever been the one to do it consecutive times before another team could do so and no team has ever defeated the AP No. 1 ranked team more than once in a calendar year. Florida was the last team to defeat the AP No. 1 team with its victory against Ohio State on Jan. 8, GATORS YOUNG IN 2007 Overall, 49 players who have seen action in a game this year are either freshmen or sophomores. Eighteen of the 49 are true freshmen this season and 33 are either true or redshirt freshmen. UF returned 10 scholarship seniors and 11 scholarship juniors in Other than Florida s 21 combined upperclassmen, there is not a school in the Southeastern Conference and only one in the state of Florida (FIU) that has fewer than 28 combined juniors and seniors returning and the average in the SEC is FLORIDA FOOTBALL LSU will be the the highest-ranked opponent an Urban Meyer-coached team has ever faced in the regular season. LSU has only been defeated twice in Baton Rouge when the Tigers are ranked inside the top five (15-7, vs. Ole Miss, Nov. 3, 1962 and 30-27, OT, vs. Tenn., Sept. 26, 2005). There has never been an underclassman quarterback in NCAA history to lead a team to a win over a topfive ranked LSU team in Baton Rouge. With his 119-yard receiving performance against Auburn, Percy Harvin became the first Gator to have three-straight 100-yard receiving games since Reche Caldwell put together a four-game stretch during the 2001 season (vs. Kentucky, Mississippi State, LSU and Auburn). Against Tennessee, Percy Harvin became the fourth Gator to have a 100-yard receiving game. Last season, only two Florida receivers went over 100 yards and they did so only four times. Florida is one of three teams nationally to have four different receivers with single-game 100-yard performances (BYU, Hawaii). This season, Harvin has seen the ball 52 times (28 receptions and 24 carries) and is averaging 12.1 yards per touch. Against Tennessee, Riley Cooper caught his third touchdown of the season, which is tied with Percy Harvin and Cornelius Ingram for the top total on the team. Cooper has caught six passes this season total (50 percent of his receptions are for touchdowns). He has caught 10 passes on his career and six have been for touchdowns (60 percent). As a group, the Florida wide receivers have carried the ball 37 times for 252 yards and two touchdowns (avg. 6.8 yards per carry). Florida is one of three schools in the nation that have multiple receivers with nine-or-more rushing attempts this season. This season is the third time in school history that UF has had four different players with 100-yard receiving games (1985, 1993). UF has never had five different players with 100-yard games in a single season. This season, three Florida wide receivers have taken direct snaps, as Andre Caldwell, Percy Harvin and Jarred Fayson have done so. Andre Caldwell needs 40 catches to establish a new school record for career receptions (172, Carlos Alvarez, ). Currently, Caldwell is 10th on the all-time list with 133 catches. He needs eight more to match his brother Reche at seventh ( ). Riley Cooper led the Gator receivers in the season opener against Western Kentucky with four receptions for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while Andre Caldwell finished the day with three catches for 103 yards. The two were the first Gator duo to have over 100 yards receiving in the same game since Jemalle Cornelius and Chad Jackson did so against Kentucky in In 2006, Percy Harvin became the first freshman since 2003 (LSU s Justin Vincent) to be chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the SEC Championship Game. Harvin became the fifth player in school history to earn the distinction and the fourth to return the following year. The chart below shows how the Gators who have returned after gaining the MVP honor have performed: Player SEC Champ. MVP Following Season Stats Terry Dean : 109-of-180 for 1,492 yards and 20 TDs Danny Wuerffel : 207-of-360 for 3,625 yards and 39 TDs (Heisman Winner) Rex Grossman : 259-of-395 for 3,896 yards and 34 TDs (Heisman Runner-Up) Under the guidance of position coach Billy Gonzales, the leading receiver on the team over the last six years has averaged 76.5 receptions a season. Also, UF s Chad Jackson tied the school record with 88 receptions in 2005 and Utah s Paris Warren had a school-record 80 receptions in FLORIDA FOOTBALL

7 WHAT S NEW WITH THE GATORS... OFFENSIVE LINE Florida opened the Auburn game with the following lineup on the offensive line: Jason Watkins (LT), Jim Tartt (LG), Drew Miller (C), Maurkice Pouncey (RG), Carlton Medder (RT). Pouncey, who had missed starting the Ole Miss game, returned to the lineup against the Tigers. Pouncey has started four out of five games at the right guard position this season. The Florida offensive line did not surrender a sack against Auburn, marking the fourth time in five games the Gators have not allowed one. The two sacks the Gators have allowed this season are tied with Arkansas, Tennessee and Rutgers for the fewest allowed by any team in the country. Drew Miller and Carlton Medder started every game in the 2006 season and Jim Tartt started all but one (Vanderbilt due to an ankle injury). The three have combined for 63 starts on the offensive line in their careers. Miller and Medder have started 19 consecutive games, matching Tony Joiner for the longest active streaks on the squad. The offensive line has not allowed a sack in four out of five games this season (WKU, UT, Ole Miss and Auburn) and has allowed two all season. In 2006, the unit allowed only 23 sacks after giving up 35 in Last year, UF gave up only one or less sacks seven times and in 2005 they did so on only three occasions. Against Western Kentucky, Drew Miller was the third different senior in three years at starting center under head coach Urban Meyer at Florida (2005, Mike Degory; 2006, Steve Rissler). Phil Trautwein, who started every game last season, suffered a stress fracture in his right foot during August practices and has not played this season. Michael and Maurkice Pouncey are the fifth and sixth freshmen offensive linemen in school history to enroll early and participate in spring drills. All six have done it under head coach Urban Meyer. THE DEFENSE In their last outing against Auburn, the Gators held the Tigers to 99 rushing yards and still have not allowed an opponent 100-or-more yards in a game this season. UF opponents have gained 317 yards rushing for an average of 2.2 per carry (eighth nationally). This season, the Gators have shut out three of five opponents in the fourth quarter. The only points that UF has allowed was a passing touchdown midway through the last quarter of the game against Troy and a field goal to Auburn. Against Auburn, UF had 12 tackles behind the line of scrimmage as a team, which is the highest team total since 13 against The Citadel in The UF defense has held opponents to 2-of-6 on third and one conversions this year. UF opponents are just 4-of-8 combined on third downs of two yards or less. Dating back to last season, the Gator defense has held six of its last nine opponents to under 60 yards rushing. In 15 of the last 19 games, the Gators have held their opponents to 100 yards rushing or less. In the last 55 games, the Gators have scored points off turnovers in 38 games. 216 of UF s points under head coach Urban Meyer have come off turnovers. The Florida defensive staff finished the 2006 season with 115 years of combined collegiate coaching experience: Chuck Heater (31), Doc Holliday (29), Greg Mattison (31), Charlie Strong (24). LINEBACKERS This season, Brandon Spikes and Dustin Doe rank as Florida s leading tacklers with 46 and 32, respectively. UF has been out-rushed in 35 of the 46 games it has lost. The Gators have posted a record when they hold an opponent to less than 100 team rushing yards. UF is 31-4 in games in which it blocks a punt. The Gators are in games played in the state of Florida (97-12 in Gainesville, 14-2 in Jacksonville, 2-1 in Orlando, 1-0 in Miami, in Tallahassee, 1-2 in Tampa) vs. unranked teams at game time. Florida replaced all three of its 2006 starting linebackers with A.J. Jones, Brandon Spikes and Dustin Doe for Spikes and Doe were starting the sixth games of their careers against Auburn, while Jones was playing in his fifth career game. DEFENSIVE LINE Florida s starting defensive line against Ole Miss was the following: Derrick Harvey (DE), Javier Estopinan (NT), Clint McMillan (DT) and Jermaine Cunningham (DT) FLORIDA FOOTBALL

8 WHAT S NEW WITH THE GATORS LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE Defensive end Derrick Harvey recorded a pair of sacks in Florida s last game against Auburn to bring his career total to 17. The SEC is one of four conferences in the nation to have two teams ranked inside the AP preseason top 10 (Big East, Big 10, Big 12). In 11 of the past 12 seasons, the SEC has had five-or-more teams ranked in the AP preseason top 25. In 2003, the SEC had four and in 2001 and this season, the SEC had six (including preseason No. 1 Florida). Every other season, the year started off with five league teams ranked in the AP top 25 to begin with. Against Auburn, Derrick Harvey recorded a team-high two sacks. Over the last six games, Harvey has totaled eight sacks. Harvey did not get his first sack of the 2006 season until the fourth game. He ended last year with a team-leading 11. The sack output tied for the fifth-highest single-season total in school history, as well as the third-highest by a defensive lineman in the UF record books. Justin Trattou made the first interception of his college career against Troy. Trattou became the second UF defensive lineman to intercept a pass under Coach Meyer (Joe Cohen, 2005). SECONDARY Tony Joniner started the contest against Auburn marking his 19th-straight start. His streak is tied for the longest among all Gators with Drew Miller and Carlton Medder. True freshman Major Wright made the first start of his career at free safety against Auburn. Wright finished the night with tied with Dustin Doe and Tony Joiner as UF s second-leading tackler. He also forced a fumble during the contest. True freshman Joe Haden made the first fumble recovery of his career during the third quarter of the Auburn game. Florida has had an interception in 29 of the past 43 games. In 2006, Florida led the SEC with 21 interceptions. UF s 16 in 2005 tied with Georgia for the highest amount by any team in the league. Florida s defense has intercepted 78 passes since 2003, when Charlie Strong took over as defensive coordinator. UF opened the game with Wondy Pierre-Louis and Joe Haden at corner, which marked the second-straight season and the third time in the last six years that UF had two new starters at corner. SPECIAL TEAMS Brandon James had his third return of 50-plus yards on the year with a 55-yard kick return at Ole Miss. He had a 59-yard kickoff return against Troy and 83-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Tennessee game. Last season, James had just one kick return over 50 yards (77-yard punt return for a touchdown against Western Carolina). Florida is the only school in the nation not to allow a punt return in a game this season and has yet to allow a punt return yard. The UF school record for fewest punt return yards allowed in a season was 47 yards on 11 punt returns in Against Tennessee, Brandon James returned the first punt of the game for an 83-yard touchdown. It was the longest punt return of his career and tied for the fifth-longest in school history (George Gandy, vs. Tulane, 1966). James finished the day with three punt returns for 91 yards and four kickoff returns for 102 yards (193 total on the day). Brandon James 83-yard punt return for a touchdown against Tennessee was the second of his career. The Florida record punt returns for a touchdown in a career belongs to Jacquez Green (4, ) FLORIDA FOOTBALL

9 WHAT S NEW WITH THE GATORS... Florida has a new punter (Chas Henry) and placekicker (Joey Ijjas) this season. Throughout the first five games, Henry has punted 17 times for an average of 36.9 yards. His long was 50 against Ole Miss and he has placed six inside the 20 this year. Ijjas is 28-of-28 on extra points through the first five outings and is four-of-six on field goals. Brandon Hicks leads the Gators with six special teams tackles. Hicks has one solo stop and five assisted this season. Entering the Troy game, no player on the Florida roster had attempted a field goal in their collegiate career. Joey Ijjas connected on a 32-yard attempt with just over 10 minutes remaining in the final quarter. In the Troy game, UF blocked two punts for the first time since the 2006 Vanderbilt game. Carlos Dunlap and Roderick Blackett each blocked the first punt of their Florida careers.
