Around The Courts GPCC NETBALL CLUB NEWS ROUND s Glow Shine on the Court! Fireworks in Action The Fireworks are going strong and getting better each week. With a number of new players this season, they have so much heart and love for each other and have become a close knit team. We are a small team and between illnesses and players being away each player has played a full game each week - but we never run out of steam! The Fireworks are scoring more and more goals as each week goes by. Keep up the great work girls! Coach: Marcela. After a week away at camp, I thought Glow might be a bit tired but the girls performed incredibly well against a strong Davistown team, our arch-rivals from last year s season! Jenna and Jess L had a great game as GS and together with the formidable Anni in GA, scored an impressive 25 goals. Jess B and Liv took control of the centre court with Chloe and Nakira showing good control of the ball in wings. Jules and Gem shone in defence and we beat Davistown by 9 goals. Thank you to the lovely Ella for playing up in the U13 s team and helping them out. Glow have had a fantastic season so far and I m very proud of you all! Coach: Meredith NO NETBALL 10TH JUNE! Enjoy the long weekend and stay safe.
8s Firegirls: The Firegirls are on Fire! These girls just get better and better each week! Our passing rate has improved so much and the girls are moving the ball around and down the court and are working well as a team. Round 7 was a nail biter with the ball constantly moving back and forth from one end of the court to the other. Our defence team (Anna, Zara, Milly and Natasha) were amazing at intercepting, catching rebounds, chasing stray balls and moving the ball back to our goal end. Alicia and Jemima played a solid game in GA and were always in the middle of the action, ready and willing to move the ball down the court. Michelle and Hannah did great in their first time as C and Hannah s shooting was jaw dropping with a goal scored from almost one end of the goal circle, moving straight through the ring without even touching! On the sideline this week was Ruby who wasn t well enough to play but still came out in the cold to support her team... what a team player! Keep up the great work girls, we are so very proud of you all! Coach: Barbara. blow the whistle Exciting news on the courts last week! Olivia Farmer, GPCCNC umpire and former player received her National C badge for umpiring on the weekend. A great achievement for Olivia after coming back from injury last season. Congratulations Olivia and well done! Well done also goes to Jess Degeling and Holly Jamieson who were awarded the Gosford Award for umpiring. Both of these umpires will continue to work to develop their skills and progress on the umpire pathways. Alana Degeling also successfully completed her training games and is ready to take on umpiring. We also welcome Neve Casey, who completed her Beginner Umpire course and will begin her training games shortly. As a Club we have some very talented young ladies on the courts, whistle in hand - well done to all of you! Continue to read/learn the rule book and put it into practice on the court. Thank you also to everyone involved in training these umpires along the way. We will continue to watch, coach and mentor all our umpires towards their next award/badge. HOME Simple ways to practise netball at home: grab a parent/brother/sister and pass the ball to each other - practise chest passes, shoulder passes and bounce passes from all different angles if you are practising by yourself, bounce the ball off a wall - throw the ball to different heights and catch the rebound, try to jump, catch and land as a shooter you simply need practice, practice, practice! Try to shoot goals from different distances - mark positions on the ground (with chalk, sticks, small stones) at different distances from the goal post (one step, two steps etc) and in different directions work on your defence by shooting (or throwing the ball in the air) and jumping for rebounds build your stamina and fitness with a brisk walk, jog on the spot, skipping, quick sprints from one spot to another and back ask your coach what you need to work on The more you practise at home the more comfortable and confident you will be with handling the ball at training and games!
17s Flames: What a team of lovely young ladies the Flames are. We have had some ups and more downs this season, mostly with injuries. It is also an age where there are a lot of things going on in the life of a teenage girl. Assignments, part-time work, social obligations, etc etc. This has made it tricky to find where each player s strengths are and where they all fit together, due to so many changes throughout the beginning of the season. The teams skills are coming along and I have really seen improvement in all the players from the beginning of the season. All the girls have something to offer this diverse team and I hope they keep training and putting in the effort as I know they will just get better and better. As a coach, our last game showed where each player is strongest, so I am really looking forward to the upcoming games and seeing what this beautiful bunch of girls can do. Coach: Tina 9s Shimmer with their coach Gemma TIP: be sure to like the GNA (Gosford Netball Association) Facebook page to stay up to date with news, wet weather calls and information and events about the 2017 netball season. QUESTIONS FEEDBACK SUGGESTIONS We welcome your involvement in our Club! If you have any questions about any aspect of GPCC Netball Club, netball or GNA please just ask :) We also welcome your feedback and suggestions as we refine what we do and cater for our players and coaches and managers. Please contact us at secretarygpccnc@gmail.com QUESTIONS FEEDBACK SUGGESTIONS
15s Wildfire: I don t want to brag that this team is sitting in first place on the ladder, but they are! The Wildfires have worked hard at training and put up with all the drills I put them through. We do a variety of passing skills drills to better our game, which has been paying off. All the girls know how to play netball, we just keep working on minimising the unforced errors with passing and court position. We have been working on some set plays and everything has been working really well. We have tried moving some players from their usual positions into different ones to give the team more strength and it has worked well and the girls seem to be happy playing in alternate postions. The team encourage each other and are really united, which makes coaching them a pleasure. Keep up the great work Wildfires - it is shaping up to be a great season! 5 13s Firebirds: The 13A Firebirds are super stars! They have been working super hard each training session and are improving their skills each week. It s a tough competition in A grade and we have a team of seven players but the girls aren t giving up. I m so proud of them each week to continue to show their passion for the sport and giving 100%! These girls are truly awesome! The last two weeks we have had losses but we are ready to fight back. BRING IT ON - GO FIREBIRDS!!. Coach: Beth 9s Shimmer
10s Firecrackers: The U10 Firecrackers have had a very exciting few weeks of netball! We ve had 2 losses and 3 super wins. We are so proud as coaches to see the girls gel so well as a team on court and all their hard work at training paying off on game day. Going back to basics at training - concentrating on the fundamentals of netball (shoulder passing, stepping, breaking and defending) has certainly made a huge difference. Congratulations to our players of the match for games 3-7: Week 3 - Shaelyn, for amazing breaking, passing and movement around the court. Week 4 - THE WHOLE TEAM!!!, what a spectacular game - the girls were on fire! Week 5 - Emily, for beautiful defence and awesome intercepts. Week 6 - Jess, played a lovely game with great positional play Week 7 - Maddison, fantastic circle work and shooting today! Congratulations on your awesome team work girls - keep practising at home too! It s a very exciting season! Coaches: Kel + Jane. Your ideas and suggestions: I would love to hear your feedback, ideas and suggestions with regard to GPCC Netball Club and the netball season.
