Athletics is an integral part of student life at Bryant. The outstanding accomplishments of the Bryant basketball teams stand as a tribute to the entire student body. On behalf of the Bryant Community, I extend best wishes to Coach Tom Folliard and his team for continued success in the upcoming season. *\rv** ftev* & C «2. Schedule ^ o ' & uabso «- & * ~ WtV» r 4. The historic move to the Smithfield campus will take Bryant just twelve miles away from its present campus site in Providence, where the College has been located since its conception in The new campus, slated for completion in the fall of 1971, occupies 220 acres of land in one of the most scenic areas of Rhode Island. The highlight of the new campus for the Indians basketball team will be the new Physical Education Facility. The new home of the Indians will house a 2,700 seat gymnasium in addition to spacious locker rooms, exercise rooms and athletic offices. The new campus also will include dormitory facilities for over 1,000 students, a library with a 100,000 volume capacity, a student activities center with an indoor swimming pool, dining facilities and special student activity rooms. 5 4 Bryant Indians T O M F O L L I A R D Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director TOM FOLLIARD'S COACHING RECORD Year Record * t * Naismith Conference Co-championship t Regional N.A.I.A. Playoffs Tom is beginning his third season at the helm of the Indians. The former Providence College standout came to Bryant in 1967 as an assistant to head coach Tom Duffy. In 1968 he succeeded Duffy as head coach and also was named Bryant's first full-time athletic director. Tom, a native of Washington, D. C, was a defensive standout on P.C.'s 1961 N.I.T. champions. After graduating from Providence College he played two years of military ball and in 1964 was named the Most Valuable Player in the military district of Washington. In his first year as head coach he directed the Indians to an impressive 21-5 record. Under Tom's leadership the hallmark of the Indians became defense. He did an excellent job implementing the defensive techniques learned from his former P.C. coach Joe Mullaney as the Indians limited the opposition to 68 points per game in their first season under Tom's direction. Last season Tom continued his winning ways. He led the Indians to a Co-championship in the Naismith Conference and berth in the regional N.A.I.A. tournament. This year Tom is faced with a rebuilding situation. But a fine crop of players from last year's freshman team should provide the nucleus from which to rebuild this year's squad. The highlight of the season for Tom probably will come in mid-january when he leads his Indians into his old hometown of Washington, D. C. The Indians are slated for a three game southern tour highlighted by a game with Catholic University in the nation's capital on January 19. /
6 B i l l S t e i n Freshman Coach Bill is another product of the Providence College basketball program. A 1964 graduate of P.C., he was a member of the Friars' 1963 N.I.T. champions and the 1964 N.C.A.A. regional playoff team. Bill came to Bryant in 1968 after a highly successful high school coaching career in Connecticut. For two years after his graduation from P.C. he was varsity hoop coach at La Sallette Seminary in Cheshire. He then moved to Eli Whitney High in Hamden, where he guided his team to a berth in the Connecticut Interscholastic Tournament. In addition to his duties as freshman basketball coach, Bill also serves as assistant athletic director and varsity baseball coach. f e r r y M o r g a n Trainer One of the most integral members of any team is its trainer. In Jerry Morgan, the Indians have found one of the best in New England. Jerry was a former star football and basketball player at Iowa State before coming to Rhode Island. He came to Rhode Island as a member of the Providence Steam Rollers professional football team and since has become a well-known figure in Rhode Island sports circles. In addition to his duties as the Indians' trainer, Jerry is a full-time faculty member, head football and head basketball coach at Providence's Hope High School. J o h n G i l l o o l y Sports Information Director John came to Bryant last year to help Tom Folliard promote the Indians' athletic program. A former hockey player John has developed a keen interest in basketball since he began his association with the Indians. In addition to his duties as Sports Information Director, John also serves as the Indians' varsity tennis coach. Bryant Indians 5

He averaged over 10 points per game during the second half of the season as the Indians drove to a N.A.I.A. regional playoff berth.
