The Owls have split a pair of road games. The team went 11-2 last year in the FAU Arena. BALANCED SCORING ATTACK The Owls feature three double-figure scorers in their lineup. Leading the way are juniors Latavia Dempsey and Chenise Miller, both at 14.5 ppg. Another junior, Takia Brooks, is averaging 10 points per outing. SUNSHINE STATE SUCCESS Last season FAU went 7-2 in games against teams from Florida. The team picked up two victories over Bethune-Cookman and FIU. She scored a career-high 16 points at Georgia Southern before tallying 13 points at Bethune-Cookman on Friday. * FAU is holding opponents to shooting just 24 percent from behind the 3-point line this season. 7 ROAD TRIPS Florida Atlantic begins its season playing four of its first five games away from Boca Raton. The Owls opened at Georgia Southern (Nov. 9) and before going to Bethune- Cookman (Nov. 16). The team will participate in the University of Miami Thanksgiving Classic in Coral Gables from Nov EXPERIENCE MATTERS Nine of the 12 FAU players are in their third year of college basketball, led by seven juniors. The Owls return three starters and six letterwinners from last season s postseason WNIT squad. BUSY OUT OF THE GATE The Owls are testing their conditioning early in the season, playing six games in November. FAU will play four games in 11 days from November The team will conclude the busy stretch against South Alabama in the Sun Belt Conference opener. HOME SWEET HOME Florida Atlantic posted an 11-2 record inside the FAU Arena last season, including a 7-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference action. The team has recorded three consecutive winning home nonconference campaigns. BCS BUSTER FAU will play three games against teams from major conferences this winter. The Owls open the UM Thanksgiving Classic against Miami of the Atlantic Coast Conference on November 23. There will be games at Mississippi State of the Southeastern Conference on Dec. 7 and at Wisconsin of the Big 10 Conference on Dec. 10. MILLER EARNS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AWARD Junior forward Chenise Miller was named the Athletic Department s Female Student- Athlete of the Year in the She earned second-team All-SBC honors last season. Miller led the Owls to 17 victories and their second Division I postseason appearance. Other News and Notes TOURNAMENT PREP The Owls will play in one in-season tournament when they participate in the UM Thanksgiving Classic from November in Coral Gables. FAU will play Miami in the opener at 7 p.m. The team will play Radford or Southern Illinois on the next day. PICKED 4th IN EAST DIVISION Florida Atlantic was selected to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference s East Division preseason poll. The poll was conducted by league coaches. GRIFFITH EARNS WNBA HONOR Former FAU women s basketball player Yolanda Griffith was named one of the 15 best players in WNBA history in She received the honor during the WNBA All-Star Game, commemorating 15th-year anniversary of the women's professional game. In her only season as an Owl, Griffith scored a school record 621 points in WINNING THE CLOSE ONES Eight of FAU s 17 wins last season were decided by six points or less. Six of those triumphs came in SBC play. The team earned two one-point victories over FIU, onepoint wins over South Alabama and Denver, and a two-point win over Western Kentucky. Then, the Owls defeated North Texas by one point in the conference tournament. HOMESTAND TO END SEASON The Owls will play three of their final five regular-season games inside the FAU Arena. The team will end the season with home games against UALR on February 23 and FIU on March 2. ADVANTAGE AT THE LINE FAU made 61 more free throws and attempted 115 more free throws than the opposition during the campaign.

She also has served as an assistant coach in the Pac 10, Big 12 and Big Ten Conferences, and her team s from each league played in the NCAA Tournament. Lewis-Jay served five seasons at the University of Nebraska, where her responsibilities included being recruiting coordinator. Those efforts gleaned a top-25 recruiting class in 2011, the highest for the program under Head Coach Connie Yori. The class also helped the Huskers to the best season in school history in NU finished with a 32-2 record, including a perfect 16-0 conference mark to capture the school's first Big 12 regular-season crown. Lewis-Jay also helped the Huskers to their first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance (2010), their second NCAA Tournament trip (2008) and a WNIT (2009). Among key signees were 2009 Washington Gatorade High School Player of the Year Lindsey Moore, a third-team Parade High School All-American and a 2010 Big 12 All-Freshman selection as NU s starting point guard. In addition to coordinating Nebraska's recruiting efforts, Lewis- Jay assisted with on-court coaching responsibilities, including opponent scouting. She also was responsible for developing Nebraska's guard play. Lewis-Jay joined Yori's Husker staff in 2007, after spending four seasons as an assistant coach at University of Washington. She helped the Huskies to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2006 and She was instrumental in helping Washington sign one of the nation's top recruiting classes for the season, as the sixplayer class was ranked eighth nationally at the time of its signing by Blue Star Basketball on Nov. 8, Aside from her prep coaching duties, Lewis-Jay established the Idaho Elite in 1999, a competitive summer basketball team based in Boise. Members of Lewis-Jay's Idaho Elite team included 25 all-state athletes, as well as 12 NCAA Division I signees. Among those standout players were Huskies Maggie O'Hara and Emily Florence. Also on the squad is current Director of Basketball Operations Danielle Maloney. The Idaho Elite won the 2002 Midsummer Nights Madness Tournament title in Seattle. Lewis-Jay led the prep varsity team to a district championship in 2003, after guiding the junior varsity team to district crowns in 1999 and Lewis-Jay also was named the District 3 Junior Varsity Coach of the Year in Lewis-Jay was a four-year letterwinner and a two-time team captain as a player at Boise State. Her list of collegiate accolades included a pair of All-Big West Conference selections in 1997 and 1998, as well as Boise State team MVP honors those same seasons. During her senior campaign, Lewis-Jay earned Big West Conference All- Tournament honors, after being named the MVP of the Boise State Tournament. She also was honored as a recipient of the National Arthur Ashe Scholar Athlete Award in 1997 and Along with displaying excellence on the court, Lewis-Jay performed well in the classroom. She was a four-time academic all-conference pick, including 1995 and 1996 selections to the Big Sky academic team, and 1997 and 1998 picks to the Big West academic team. Lewis-Jay's name still appears among many single season and career top-10 lists in Bronco history. She ranks second in three-point field goals made (163), second in three point field goals attempted (484), second in free-throw percentage (.807) and ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.337). Her 829 career points also rank 20th in the Bronco record books. Lewis-Jay started her coaching career with a five-year stint as the head girls basketball coach at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Idaho, in season.
