(A MCGUIRE CENTER) --The summer camp season begins Monday morning at Marquette University with the Session I Day Camp, which features over 400 participants. Hundreds of campers will invade the Al McGuire Center Monday morning, with the five-day event concluding Friday afternoon with the awards ceremony. The top camp coaches are in Milwaukee from across the country, allowing Marquette to provide high-level individual instruction to the campers. It s an exciting time of the year for us and we are really happy to have everyone on campus, Marquette head coach Buzz illiams said. e are looking forward to a week full of instruction, competition and most importantly, fun. This week s group of campers will be divided into four groups when it comes to team competition. Champions will be crowned in the following levels;,, and. The Daily Buzz staff will be keeping a watchful eye on the week s activities, owning a vote in the camper of the day and most valuable camper balloting. The Daily Buzz will also be your source to recap the game results each day as well as the individual contest award winners and the daily lunch menu. Daily winners advance in free throw, hot shot, 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 competitions, with Championship Friday deciding the week s best. A daily free throw champion will be crowned in the division, with the other three league s combining to determine the day s other winner. Championship Friday will feature a showdown for each of the winners to try and finish on top. don t have to worry about having cash. (A MCGUIRE CENTER) -- Participants at the Session I Day Camp wasted little time getting into action Monday morning, as over 400 players tipped off what is expected to be a record-setting summer. Monday s activities focused on individual instruction and player evaluation. The camp staff worked on fundamentals with each of the age groups and a combine was held in the afternoon and included measurements of height, weight, agility, 20-yard dash, pushups in 30 seconds, vertical standing reach and wingspan. The Division, which features the youngest of the age groups, was able to begin team play early thanks to an international agreement made in the morning at a secret location in the Village, negotiated by assistant to the camp assistant, yle olf. The proud Transylvania University graduate s first order of business after signing the treaty was to call his parents in order to prove his degree in conflict resolution wasn t a waste of time, as they had told him it was. Team Spain used balanced scoring to net a win over Team USA and AIDEN PRUSINSKI, who had to overcome the disappointment of not being to play for his native Team Poland, was the hero for Team Argentina after knocking down a huge 3-pointer in overtime. (A MCGUIRE CENTER) -- After an early-morning monsoon threatened to wash away Session I Day Camp on Tuesday, the players responded by overcoming adversity and completing an impressive day of competition. There were plenty of highlights across campus, but the shooting competition at the end of the day provided the most entertainment. Each of the four divisions had three sharpshooters selected to represent each age group. Also competing was a current Golden Eagle squad, featuring head coach Buzz illiams. The Olympians proved to be victorious, making the most of home court advantage. The trio of BEN FED (USA), GRADY SMITH (Canada) and UTHER SEDEBERG (Spain) calmly drained five shots in a row to win round one and capped the victory with a repeat performance in round two. Anyone who voted against the Olympians to win after the opening effort, including illiams, was forced to conduct pushups as punishment for doubting the ability of the United Nations. Team competition began across all four divisions in the morning and while there are still multiple undefeated squads in each age group, there is still plenty to be decided prior to tournament action on legendary Championship Friday. Tuesday s play was highlighted by ROB DEONG (Michigan). His coast-to-coast shot, a floater, proved to be the game winner in overtime against Texas and helped his squad post a 2-1 record on the day. (A MCGUIRE CENTER) -- ednesday was moving day at Marquette s Session I Day Camp, with teams in each of the four divisions jumping around the standings in hopes of better seeding for Championship Friday s tournament action. hile it s tradition for all of the team and individual awards to be distributed on the final day of action, a special exception was made during ednesday s station lines. CONNER DUGGAN (Trail Blazers) was presented the actual net used during Tuesday s 3-point competition, an event in which he put on a shooting display for the entire camp. Marquette head coach Buzz illiams stresses the importance of every possession in a game and some of the team results ednesday perfectly illustrated his mantra. In the Division, which is the largest and most competitive it has been in recent memory, CARTER RICCO (Thunder) tipped in a missed shot in overtime and that basket proved to be the difference in a victory. By the time the final whistle blows at the Al McGuire Center on Friday, a new legion of champions and heroes will be introduced to the emotional crowd of friends, family and members of the media.
