We expect a lot more and so do those young men. On Team Getting Over The Hump We ve got to keep playing games. Every team that s left to play can beat us, and we can beat every team left. We have to come and play Colorado football, that s what I tell them all the time. Play Colorado football; that means take care of yourself. Then, you go out there and play and see what happens. There s a lot of great football teams in our league. On Having Largest Attendance Since He Became Coach I m so happy for those players, those young men. They re doing it. We ve got to keep putting it back to back to back, because I want it to be standing room only. Everybody laughed at me at the bar b que when I said, You better buy your tickets now. I think everybody said, He s a cocky sucker. I believed it and I meant it and I see it. We ve got to keep doing it. I think everybody s starting to see a glimpse of it. We ve only won two and we ve got to get a bunch more. On Putting Oregon State Away We re a good football team. That s the good thing, we don t have any kids anymore; we ve got some men. They listen, they come prepared to practice, they ask questions, they come over after class, they do more studying, they re involved. They say all the time, Players make plays, players win games. They re understanding that now. They re taking their coaching. We don t have guys late for things. They re getting more professional. As you mature, that s what happens. The less teenagers you have playing the better off you are. On Steven Montez s Play I m very impressed. He can just make plays. He s a magician at times. He did some really good things. When he watches the film, he ll see that there s a few things he definitely missed. Even on the one touchdown pass he really threw it too late. He ll learn from a lot of that. Our offensive line is protecting well in all our games. Overall, they ve really played well. That s given our whole offense confidence. I tell them all the time, if the big guys up front do what they re supposed to, then our great skill will make plays. That s what you re seeing happen, and the same way on defense. Our up front is playing well controlling things, and now the skill on the backend is making plays. That s the key. On Who Will Play QB At USC We ll see how this week goes. On Montez s Second Touchdown Pass I was like, That s going to get picked, but his arm was so strong he overthrew the guy. He s kind of like the threepoint shooter. He made all the plays. We re being picky. We re talking about a redshirt freshman who s played two games. He ll be mad at himself about it. He ll figure it out. On Davis Price s 54 Yard Field Goal That was phenomenal. I was going back and forth. I was thinking, This is the first field goal this kid s ever kicked, and I m sending him out for a 54 yard field goal. As I m standing out there, the wind started breezing by me. When he s out there kicking, I m going should I have let him kick it or should I have gone for it. Then, he made it and I said, Smart move by me. That was a heck of a kick by Davis, I was really happy for him. He kicked off well today too. He has a powerful leg. On Defense Forcing Turnovers The one before the half basically pretty much closed the door. That was big. They had run the play a little bit before and they made some yards on it. Rick [Gamboa] reads those things. Two years ago when we were playing CSU, they were hurting us on the screen and then the second time they ran that screen, Rick hit the guy and the ball popped in the air and we scored. Rick just sees things. He knew it was coming and made a great read on it. It was a really good play.

On The Running Game Opening Up The Offense The running game is really important for us to set up, because it allows us to do some of our play action passes and get stuff over the middle. Once we get them running, we go so fast that they get tired, then all of a sudden they bust a coverage. When we got running, the safety had to come up and support, so the next time we ran it, he was on his own and Shay [Fields] went right by him. On Offense Going At A Fast Pace We wanted to go hyper speed today. We wanted to go hyper speed when we could and we practiced that hard. We felt like the altitude would really help us today against them. On Offense s Big Plays Shay can run. When your line protects and gives you time to make a double move that s good. The screen pass was just a great block by Devin Ross. We work on that so much, our blocking. There was a lot of excellent perimeter blocking again today. I think we ve done really well at that and that s key for us. The quarterbacks are throwing the ball where the guys are catching it with his shoulders turned up field and now they re able to hit it and run. On Team Looking Forward The Pac 12 Conference is what these young men wanted to play in; the Pac 12 Conference is, for our coaches, the level they wanted to coach at. We want to play the best and we want to be able to beat the best. They ll be ready to play, I guarantee you. They ve tasted it now and it tastes sweet and I know they want to keep tasting it. They ll keep moving in the right direction. What they ve been through has fortified them as a group of men. It s also given them an unbelievable depth in character as far as understanding, Never say die, never give up. I used to tell them all the time when I was first recruiting this group of seniors and redshirt juniors, Come on with me, but we re getting in a rollercoaster. You re getting in the roller coaster at the bottom. When you say you re going to come, I m going to lock it on you quick so you can t get out. I want you to lock in and I want you to stay with me. They ve stayed with me. They re tasting it, so we re going to ride that rollercoaster.

(Oct. 1, 2016) Oregon State Head Coach Gary Anderson General Obviously, Colorado was the far superior team today, from top to bottom, coaches all the way through. That s really all I have to say. We got thoroughly beat today, from the first snap all the way through. It s not just one spot, one position, offense, defense, and we didn t hold up our end to change the game on special teams. That s where we sit. On Giving Up Three Long Touchdowns in First Half Three long touchdown passes are obviously hard to swallow and hard to deal with. I reiterate, in this league you re going to have to go back and forth, there s going to be punches and counter punches. Early we had two or three opportunities to throw some nice counter punches and we didn t give ourselves the chance to connect the dots. The way (Colorado) is playing right now, you have to be able to do that. Defense became very difficult as we lost some young men, that s not an excuse at all, but it becomes very difficult when a team like that can peg in on who your personnel is and how you can play. On What Happened On Long Touchdowns All day long I thought the quarterback had an opportunity to get out and extend some plays. The first one was a deep, deep over route, there was a guy assigned there but it s going to be two on one on the backside and they do a nice job of getting that stuff going. If that play can be there for that amount of time, you don't have enough people in the defensive backfield than they have on the offensive side of the football. They made three plays over the top. That s not the football game. To me, defensively, the football game was their ability to run the football consistently; consistently to the edge of the defense, it kept rearing its ugly head time and time again. If I had an answer for it I d have given it to Coach (DC Kevin) Clune. Not a lot of answers. On Colorado s Rise, Model for Rebuild I hope our kids can see it, they ve competed against these people more than I have. For myself, I ve been in this position. Coach Mac has battled his tail off, in this profession you see what he s gone through the past few years and they ve done a nice job. That dude should be the coach here for a long, long time. Better strap him up to a big ol contract, because he s a damn good football coach. On Quarterback Change There s always back and forths and second guessing in all of those scenarios. Right now, we have two quarterbacks. It goes back to the offense. It s not Darell(Garretson), it s not Conor(Blount), it s the offense giving us an opportunity to be able to compete and play. I felt in this game it was important to continually go with Conor, let him get his feet wet and play and get some reps under him. What s this game going to do for Darell, especially in the third and fourth quarter? Not much, but it will (do a lot) for a young quarterback. We ll go back, we ll evaluate it and see where we sit. I thought we had some opportunities but our quarterbacks were running for their lives, and that s very difficult. When you re back there running for your life, you re not going to be comfortable. Put all the blame on me. That s what I told the kids, I have think skin, I m a grown man, I can deal with it. We ll see (who will start moving forward). On Enduring a Rebuild Similar to Colorado That s a grind, we ve talked about that. It s very, very difficult to catch teams in this league. It took them a long time to get to that point, and I m willing to go through it for these kids. I will battle for these kids until they won t have me anymore, I promise you that much. That s the whole reason why I am where I am. I hear all the stuff, some fans have some pretty good jokes. I love where I m at. This is a great league and you have to be able to battle. All I tell them is to get up and keep fighting, and don t let the negativity in, in any way, shape or form. You have to move forward and just keep on fighting. On Colorado s Defense In my opinion, these are the best corners we ve played by far. I said that during the week. They have three corners that are special young men, and they may go even deeper than that after I sit back and watch the film. We got disrupted, they played a lot of man coverage, we had a hard time getting off those man routes, they made some bold plays down the field, and I think they gained confidence as the game went on. We had a couple opportunities early to hit some deep balls and we couldn t get our hands on them. It s a talented back end, you look at those kids they re all 6 2, 6 3, they run well, they re tough minded kids that play the game the right way, they have a lot of reps underneath them, and they re thick skinned. Those are tough dudes out there now, they ve been through a lot. On Whether or Not Colorado is a Top 25 Team From what I saw, yeah. Why not put them in the top 25? I don t have a vote but they re a really good football team.
