1 PACIFIC COAST AMATEUR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION CENTRAL OFFICE: # HENNING DRIVE, BURNABY, B.C. V5C 6P7 TELEPHONE FAX WEB SITE SERVING AMATEUR HOCKEY IN THE LOWER MAINLAND SINCE 1941 P.C.A.H.A BULLETIN #19 DATE: December 24, TO: FROM: The Presidents, PCAHA Member Associations/Leagues Vanna Achtem PCAHA Vice-President SUBJECT: PCAHA Midget Scholarship Tournament (2010). ================================================================================ The 33rd annual Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association Midget Scholarship Tournament will be held from January 10-16, This special recognition event is held annually by the PCAHA to promote the ideals of scholastic achievement and sportsmanship combined with participation in Minor Hockey at the Midget level, and to recognize the talents of graduating Midget players (17 years olds) in both the educational and athletic fields. It serves as the showcase event for the Midget Division. To be eligible for selection to one of four Conference teams, a player must be registered with an integrated/male Midget A or C team within the PCAHA; must be 17 years old as of December 31st (born in 1992); and must be maintaining a C+ or better grade average at school. A C+ average is defined as a minimum 2.50 Grade Point Average based on the 4.00 grade point scale, with A=4, B=3, C+=2½, C=2, C-=1½, D or I=1, and E or F=0. In addition, any player who has incurred a Gross Misconduct or Match Penalty during the current season, or who has accumulated excessive penalty minutes, is ineligible for selection. The Midget A and C Coaches and Managers in each Association were asked to nominate players who met the above criteria by November 30, Each A1 team was asked to nominate 5 players, each A2, A3, or A4 team 3 players, and each C team 1 player, not including goalkeepers. Goalkeepers were nominated on the basis of recommendations from Coaches and Managers in the Midget division. The nominated players and goalkeepers are attending try-out practices during the period December 14, 2009-January 4, 2010, from which the final teams were selected. The schedule of games and team breakdown is attached. Coaches and Managers for the four Conference teams have been selected by the Special Events Committee on the basis of their past coaching record and philosophy of the game. Team assignments for the selected Coaches and Managers are provided on the attached team breakdown. At the conclusion of the tournament, a Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association Special Bursary Award worth $500 will be awarded to the player on each Tournament team adjudged to have best exemplified excellence and sportsmanship during the course of the Tournament. These Bursaries must be applied by the recipients towards post-secondary study according to the guidelines of the PCAHA Scholarship Program. On behalf of the PCAHA Special Events Committee I would like to thank the Vancouver Canucks Alumni Association for their support of Minor Hockey and involvement in the Midget Scholarship Tournament. I would like to thank the hosting associations, Coquitlam MHA (Andrea McDonald, President), Langley - 1 -
