BIG NEWS. Following the break for final exams and the holidays, three conference squads will take part in tournaments. Michigan and Michigan State will head to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., for the 52nd Annual Great Lakes Invitational on Dec No. 10/11 Minnesota will close out the month by hosting the Mariucci Classic Dec No. 9/8 Ohio State will also see action, facing off against Miami in a nonconference contest on Dec. 31. Both upcoming tournaments will be carried on television or streamed live. Action from the Great Lakes Invitational will be airing on FS Detroit, while action from the Mariucci Classic will be carried on FS North Plus and BTN2Go. Every game televised by BTN, FOX Sports Regional Networks, American Sports Network, CN900 or Wisconsin Public Television can be streamed nation-wide via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices on BTN2Go, BTN s digital extension. All games televised on an ESPN network will also be available on WatchESPN. Tickets are on sale for the second annual Super Saturday College Hoops & Hockey doubleheader, which will feature Big Ten foes Rutgers and Wisconsin tipping off on the hardwood, while Ohio State and Wisconsin face off in ice hockey at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, Jan. 28, The men s basketball contest will tip off at Noon ET, and the hockey game will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster at or by calling (866) The Nittany Lions are currently riding the longest unbeaten streak in the nation at 13 games, going over that stretch, and have the highest winning percentage (.900) of any team in the country this season. Penn State is currently seven wins ahead of the second-longest streak of six games. Big Ten teams currently occupy four of the top 10 positions on the national team scoring list, including the top two spots. Penn State leads the country with 4.87 goals per game, followed by Ohio State in second with Minnesota is sixth with 3.62, while Wisconsin is tied for eighth scoring 3.44 goals per contest. After leading the nation in shots on goal per game in each of the last two seasons, Penn State continues to pace all teams with this season. The Nittany Lions also lead nationally in shots on goal margin per game, firing more shots on the opponents goal than they allow. Wisconsin ranks second nationally in shots on goal per game, averaging shots. Penn State s Denis Smirnov paces all conference players and all freshmen across the country with 27 points through 15 games. Smirnov also leads the conference with 17 assists. He is now tied for the Penn State single-season record for freshman scoring with his 27 points and is the all-time leader for single-season freshman assists. With a Big Ten leading 13 goals on the season, Ohio State s Nick Schilkey is one of only nine players in the country with at least 13 goals so far this season. Schilkey is tied with Penn State s Andrew Sturtz for fourth in the nation. BTN will broadcast at least 26 games this season. Highlighting the BTN regular season schedule will be the Super Saturday - College Hoops & Hockey doubleheader on Jan. 28, when Ohio State will meet Wisconsin on the ice at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The network also will provide live coverage of all five games from the 2017 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament in March. ESPN will televise an additional six contests. ESPN will conclude its slate of Big Ten games on Friday, March 10, when Minnesota hosts Michigan State. All games televised on an ESPN network will also be available on WatchESPN.

3 BIG TEN HOCKEY WEEKLY RELEASE 3 The Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will be held March at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich. The tournament will feature all six teams in a single-elimination format. The 2017 tournament will consist of five games (two games on Thursday, March 16; two games on Friday, March 17; and the championship game on Saturday, March 18). The winner of the 2017 Big Ten Men s Ice Hockey Tournament will receive the conference s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
