1 HARLEQUIN Jeug Youth RUGBY Klub Club 56 Totius Straat/Street Groenkloof Pretoria Posbus/P.O.Box W aterkloof 0145 CODE OF CONDUCT This code of conduct has been set out to remind the PLAYER(S), COACH(S), PARENT(S) and SPECTATOR(S) that Youth Rugby is an organized sport and is played to teach the young player(s) that wants to learn the game, how it is played. REMEMBER THE GAME BELONGS TO THE PLAYERS!!! SPECTATOR CODE OF CONDUCT: - Give praise to any good performance, irrespective if he is from your team, or of the opposing team. Respect the opposing players, because without them, the match would not be able to take place. REMEMBER, a youngster is not a young Springbok ; they are only taking part in organized sport. Behave yourself in a respectful manner. Please do not use bad language and do not ridicule coaches and referees or question their integrity in public. Discuss any issues with the age group team manager or committee member. Fighting is not permitted on or off a rugby field. No spectators are allowed onto the playing area.

2 PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT:- When a player has been selected for a team of HYRC he is the responsibility of the coach and team Director. (normally the Team manager) No interference will be tolerated. The management of the team will attend to all issues pertaining to the player. Parents will be required to ensure that the relevant financial issues are adhered to. Should problems be envisaged, it should be indicated. The management of HYRC will take a decision of this issue, and their decision will be final. No verbal abuse, defamatory comments or FOUL language will be tolerated against players, coaches, referees or any other spectator. No parents will be allowed to stand in the proximity of the field. All spectators will be required to be seated on pavilions or as indicated by the club concerned. Maintain a healthy respect for the coaches, team Directors and players of both the teams concerned. No alcohol shall be used outside the boundaries of the Up & Under Pub. Parents are only allowed to drink inside the Up & Under Pub and nobody will be allowed to remove alcohol from inside the building. Parents shall drink responsibly and shall not get involved in incident due to alcohol misuse. Parents will not be accommodated as part of the touring party, if HYRC so tour, but will be required to make their own arrangements. No interference with arrangements or players will be tolerated. Encourage the players to play according to the rules and to listen to their coach and the referee. Remind and teach your son that it is just as important to participate as it is to win. Change losing to wining by teaching your child to improve their skills and to have good sportsmanship. Recognise the importance of a coach and referee, they offer their time and skills free of charge to share their skills with your child. NB: Don t start heading home before a fixture has ended. REMEMBER, children learn from the examples set by their parents. REMEMBER, the players play for their enjoyment and not for their parents enjoyment, thus a player not wanting to play must not be forced to partake against his will.

3 COACH CODE OF CONDUCT:- Always lead by example both on and off the field. Coaching must be carried out in conjunction with players during practice sessions, not next to the field during a game. Maintain the status quo by only selecting players whom has paid their respective membership fees. A player who has not yet fulfilled this obligation shall not substitute players who have paid their membership fees. Improve the ability of the weaker player rather than complain about the components of the team. Always be positive avoid negativity. Coaches must not discuss each other with players especially negative aspects. Coaches must not discuss each other with parents especially negative aspects. Coaches must work in conjunction with each other; negativity has an impact on players. Coaches may under no circumstances allow players, regardless of the age group, to consume alcohol or to smoke. Coaches may not supply or administer banned substances. Report for coaching sessions prepared. Coach in accordance with the requirements. Allow players to enjoy both practice sessions and fixtures. Results will cultivate themselves. All players must be treated equally at all times. Arguments with parents by coaches will not be tolerated. Develop the potential of all players. Don t let the players develop a win at all costs attitude. Act as though you are the player s parent. Remain reasonable and calm at all times when communicating your expectancies from the player with repect to their time, energy, enthusiasm and their interest in the game. Ensure that all players get an equal chance per match to play. The other average players also have the need to participate. Help your team to develop respect for the game, the opposition, the opposition coach and the referee. Always respect a doctor s prescriptions and the decisions by any medical official during a match due to injury of a player. A coach must ensure that they are kept up to date with the latest teaching techniques and methods and the values of improving the players skills. High tackles, Dirty play, Fighting and Bad language will not be tolerated. A PLAYER MUST BE REPRIMANDED IMMEDIATELY should any such incident occur.

4 PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT:- Play according to the rules of the game. Never question a referee s decision. Let the coach question the call. Do not lose your sense of humour with your opposition or team mates control yourself. Work hard for yourself and your fellow team mates. Handle your opponents and fellow team mates with respect. Do not ridicule the opposition. Be a good sportsman. Give credit and acknowledge the good play of your opposition and fellow team mates. Play the game for your enjoyment and not for your parent s or coach s pleasure.

5 TEAM MANAGER S CODE OF CONDUCT Listen and then respond. Co-ordinate player s problems on and off the field. Ensure that the coaches maintain a positive, healthy attitude. Report any unresolved problems amongst the coaches to management. Assist the coaches ensuring that player financial obligations are met. Ensure all parents sign the Code of Conduct and are submitted for record purposes. Ensure that you keep the personal information of all players, parents and coaches at hand. Ensure that parents Code of Conduct is adhered to, and that no interference of parents is tolerated. Should a parent either obtain a sponsor or be sponsor they are made aware that this does not allow them Carte Blanche with issues pertaining to the team. Team Directors should consult with coaches at all times although they retain the control of the team. The ruling that coaches take control of what happens within the lines and the team Director attends to all other issues is an acceptable guideline. Never adopt the first option rather the correct option. Never become involved in an altercation with parent request the complaint in writing and submit it to management for action.
