The Champion of 6 hours Youth Challenge Cup, CATI and Family Class will also be awarded with prizes sponsored by Columbia and Columbia Montrail. 4. Champion members of Family Class will also be awarded with Park Tickets sponsored by Hong Kong Ocean Park. 5. The best three of the Corporate Class will be awarded with a cup respectively. Team members will be awarded with medals and prizes sponsored by Columbia and Columbia Montrail. 6. The Champion of AYP Class will be awarded with AYP Chairman Cup. Team members will be awarded with medals and prizes sponsored by Columbia and Columbia Montrail. 7. Project Star Trek Award will be awarded to teams completing the competition. 8. You can call the emergency hotline to contact the organizer in case you need assistance. 4. Competitors cannot enter the start area by 10:45 will be asked to wait at the Late Start Lane and can only start when being allowed to do so - Final briefing - Kick-off Ceremony 11:00 - Mass Start for 3 hours Races 11:15 - Start area closes 13:30 14:30 - Light meal for 3 hours Rogainers 13:30 - Finish opens 14:00-3-hours Rogaine ends, overdue teams finishing after 14:15 are deemed to be DNF and are ineligible for a placing 14:20 - Display of final results 14:30 - Prize presentation 17:30 Event Centre closes TRANSPORTATION 1) The Event Center is located at Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Ma Tso Lung Campsite. The organizer will arrange transportation from Fanling MTR Station (near Exit C) to Event Centre. Please refer to the Appendix 1 for the location of the boarding point. Transportation service will be provided from 08:00 to 09:15. 2) Competitors should gather at the designated time and follow the instructions of the event official to board the coaches. Latecomers will not be entertained. 4 3) Competitors could also take 51B Green Mini Bus (To Liu Pok) from Sheung Shui to the Event Centre. It takes 20 minutes to the event centre and runs minutes interval. Please allow sufficient travelling time to get to the event centre on time. 4) Competitors please walk along the roadside and beware of the vehicle. In order to ensure the road safety, the road near Event Centre will be restricted for any car entry by the competitors. 5) No parking place will be available at the Event Centre. Competitors are not allowed to drive to or to take any transport to the Event Centre. Failure to do so will lead to disqualifications. 6) No transportation will be provided by the organizer for the return journey. Please see Appendix 2 for the information on taking public transport near the event centre. EVENT CENTRE 1) The Event Centre is located at Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Ma Tso Lung Campsite (G.R. 50Q KK ). 2) Location of Event Centre please refer to Appendix 2. 3) Toilets will be available at the Event Centre. 4) No showers will be available at the Event Centre. 5) First Aid and Physiotherapy service will be provided at the Event Centre. 6) Official time will be displayed at the Event Centre. 7) Please keep the Event Centre clean and take your litter home. 8) You can leave your belongings at the designated area. No plastic bags would be provided for luggage storage due to environmental protection. The organizer bears no responsibility on any loss or damage of your property. Therefore, do not bring any valuable. 9) Plastic recycle point will be available at the Event Centre. 10) No fire is allowed at the Event Centre, all food should be taken at the designated area. No shelters nor tents are allowed to be set up at the Event Centre. 11) Competitors are not allowed to enter any dormitory nor any restricted area within the Event Centre, failure to do so will lead to disqualifications. REGISTRATION & ENQUIRY 1) Please check your team number (as shown on the attached list of participants) before registration. 2) Only the team leader or a team representative is required to register within the designated time. Please follow the route to registration counter as shown by The Organizer. 3) The team leader or team representative should inform the staff of the team number and should show Identity Card when register. He/she should confirm that ALL team members on list are present for the competition on the event date, otherwise the team will be classified as unofficial and the team will not get any placing in the result list. No substitution of participation is allowed; otherwise, you will be disqualified. You will be asked to provide identity proof whenever necessary. 4) Registration counter will be closed at designated time. Latecomers will NOT be provided with competition materials and will NOT be allowed to join the competition. 5) Each team will be issued the number bibs of all members, an E-card and a Team Declaration Form. 6) Each team has to complete and submit the Team Declaration Form before start. 7) Both 6 hours and 3 hours teams will get their competition maps when entering the start area. 8) Please leave the registration counter promptly. If you have any enquiry, please go to the enquiry counter. 2019/01/24 4
5 START 1) The Start is located near the Event Centre which is marked by red on the competition map. 2) There will be two mass starts: all 6 hours Rogainers will start at 1000 hours while the 3 hours Rogainers will start at 1100 hours. 3) You must wear your number bib chest high; otherwise, you will not be allowed to start. Team photos will be taken before you enter the Pre-Start area. 4) You should enter the Pre-Start Area at least minutes before the start time. After entering the Pre-Start area, competitors should clear previous data in the SI-Card by punching the CLEAR unit, and check if the SI-Card functions properly by punching the CHECK unit. 5) Your E-card, number bib, compass, whistle and compulsory personal and team equipment will be checked at the Pre-Start Area (please see Appendix 3). You are not allowed to start without any of these aforesaid items. 6) You can get your maps and check point descriptions at the Pre-Start area after clearing all the checking procedure. The earlier you check in at the Pre-Start area, the more time you can get to study your map and plan your course. 7) The final briefing and kick off ceremony will be held before you start. 8) You may start after the last beep of the start signal. Please leave the Start Area immediately and follow the streamers to the Start Point (the red triangle as shown on the map). All competitors must pass through the Start Point. Do not stay at the Start Area as this will cause obstruction to the other competitors. Do not run/walk on the motor roads to avoid traffic accident, otherwise you will also be disqualified. 9) After start, you can choose to leave the event centre via the NE or SW camp entrance. 10) To avoid any traffic accident, please stick to the pavement after leaving the start, and do not run on the motor way. 11) Late starters must report to Late Start lane and can only start when being allowed to do so. Late starters will be timed as if they start at their scheduled time unless the organizer is at fault. No competitor will be allowed to start after 15 minutes of their scheduled start time. 12) Please see the Start Flow as attached at Appendix 4. FINISH 1) The Finish location is at the Event Centre which is marked by red on the competition map. 2) You can choose to enter the Finish area via the NE or SW camp entrance. 3) All competitors must follow the taped route to enter the Finish line. 4) All competitors are required to report to the finish within the specified competition times, i.e. 3 hours or 6 hours. Any late for 15 minutes or more will be deemed to be DNF (DO NOT FINISH) and are ineligible for a placing. The course closing times for 3 hours and 6 hours competitions will be 1415 hours and 1615 hours respectively. 5) Teams should be finishing altogether and incomplete teams are not allowed to enter the Finish Chute. Only the last member of your team who crosses the finish line will be timed. 6) When you cross the finish line, please inserting the Punch into the E-card to mark the completion of your competition and to register your finish time. 7) Please proceed to download your E-card data at the Result Processing Unit as soon as possible. You have to make sure your E-card is kept in safe and good condition before downloading your data, if otherwise you have to take your own responsibility for whatever damage caused to your E- card. COMPETITION MAP 1) The map will be in 5 colours, at the scale of 1:15,000 with 10 metres contour interval, produced in ) The map is drawn in accordance with the drawing specifications of Rogaine maps. 3) Map legends will be printed on the competition map. Please also refer to the Appendix 5 for map legends. 2019/01/24 5
6 4) Place name will be printed on the map. 5) Not all Impassable rock face and bare rock will be shown on the map. 6) For vegetation, rough open and open land will be shown in white colour while dense vegetation and open forest will be shown in light green colour. 7) Cultivation land will be shown by yellow colour with black dots and is only accessible when there is a path shown on the map. Other part will be out of bound. Beware of the change on map due to the latest development of the rural area, which may affect your navigation plan 8) All check points, start & finish point and water points will be pre-printed on the maps. 9) The map is printed on plain paper and the size is approximately 63.5cm x 51cm. You need to prepare your map case to protect your map. 10) Apart from the competition maps provided by the organizer, no other maps in whatever form are to be used during the competitions, failure to do so will lead to disqualification. 11) The out of bound area which are represented by red stripes on the map are strictly forbidden to enter. Competitors entering these areas will lead to disqualification and may endangering you. COMPETITION AREA AND SAFETY GUIDELINES 1) The competition area covers the Northern part of New Territory and extends 5km and 7km from East to West and from South to North respectively. 2) The NW part of the competition area was formerly Frontier Closed Area and is left with abandoned barb-wire which will not be shown on the map. 3) The hill sides on the SW side of the competition area are very steep and rugged. As this has been a defence area in World War II, some hidden trenches can be found in the area. Please be careful. 4) The highest point in the area is Ngo Tam Shan which is 337m above sea level. 5) About 50% of the competition area is covered by dense vegetation, the other 50% of the area is covered by rough open ground, settlements and cultivation land. 6) Most of the river valleys or re-entrants are covered by dense vegetation and competitors should travel along prominent paths. 7) You are advised to wear long-sleeve clothing to avoid being hurt by thorns and insect bites. 8) Some paths and roads have been recently damaged by landslides. Please be careful when passing these areas. 9) Some slopes are rather steep with coarse sands and gravels, be careful. 10) Please do not frighten the wandering cattle in the competition area. Wild Boars are reported to appear in some remote areas and please be careful. 11) The area is very popular with hikers during Holidays. Please be careful and do not bump into the hikers when running along the hiking paths. 12) Please travel along pedestrian or side of the road and do not run/walk on motor roads. Beware of the on going vehicle and follow the traffic rules. When crossing a moto road, you must make use legal pedestrian crossing such as zebra crossing, traffic lights and overhead footbridge. 13) There may be some construction works in the competition area, Please keep out of the construction sites and be careful of the traffic. 14) The event area is popular with cycling during Sunday, please be careful. 15) There may be motor bikes running in the hill side of the SW part of the competition area, please be careful. 16) Please do not cause any disturbance and keep quiet when passing through village settlement. Be careful with the wandering dogs in the vicinity of the villages. 17) There will be 2 water stations in the competition areas which will be shown on the map or check point descriptions. Each competitor will be provided with a maximum of 0.5 litre of water at each water station. You have to refill the water with your water bottles and no drinking cups will be provided. 18) Please keep the countryside clean and take your litter home 2019/01/24 6
7 COURSE 1) The course covers large and diverse area and your fitness and navigation skills will be tested to the limit. So careful route planning will be important. Steep ascent and descent will put your four limbs in great challenge. 2) Travelling on paths is highly recommended especially for novice. Do not go straight into dense vegetation (Fight area). 3) Check points will be shown by red circle on the map and a red and white colour marker will be hanged on the actual ground. Check point marking device and code number will be provided at each check point. 4) Check points descriptions with English and Chinese version will be provided separately in A-4 paper. 5) * will be used in check point descriptions if the feature is not shown on the map. 6) Check points scores have been assigned on basis of a number of factors including navigational difficulty, remoteness & distance from the Start & Finish and physical challenge of the course. As a general rule for Rogaine competition, do not attempt to get all the control points which is almost impossible. Check points with highest scores usually require good navigation skills, strong physique and significant amount of time. 7) All team members shall remain within a distance of 10 metres at all times whilst on the course. All team members shall simultaneously approach to each checkpoint. Failure to do so will have that check point scores forfeited plus deduction of double amount of that check point scores. The second offence will lead to disqualification. Competitors must wear number bib chest high at all times. Warning will be given to teams violating the aforesaid rules for the first time and subsequent offences will lead to disqualification. Some check points and parts of competition area will be manned by Event Officials to ensure that competitors are abiding by these competition rules. Any violation of the competition rules will lead to disqualification without any prior warning. SCORING 1) This is a Score Event. You can take the check points in any order. Each check point carries a certain score (from ). The team with the highest score and shortest competition time will be the winner. 2) Time Penalty system will also apply. 30 points will be deducted for every minute or part of a minute late. 3) Teams with over due time more than 15 minutes will be deemed to be DNF (DO NOT FINISH) and are ineligible for a placing. 4) In case there are same scores, winner will be the one with less competition time. ELECTRONIC CONTROL CARDS 1) This event uses the SportIdent electronic punching and timing system. No competitor shall reject the use of this system. 2) Your results are calculated according to your card s records. 2019/01/24 7
8 3) If a control punch unit is out of order, please use the red manual punch to mark your visit in the R (reserve) boxes on your map. Report this to the results official after finishing; failure to do so will lead to non-recognition. 4) Please make sure you get the correct electronic control card by checking the start list. Report to the organiser immediately when there you get an incorrect card. 5) Please check if you can the correct SI card by of your results. 6) Competitor has to pay HK$300 to the organizer in case his/her E-card is lost or damaged. EQUIPMENT TO CARRY (Please also see Appendix 3) (A) To bring to the Event Centre/Hash House Plastic bag or clear contact to protect your map Pencil, marker pens, high lighters, scissors, adhesive tapes, string for measuring distance on map work & planning Spare & changing clothing Snacks Spare water Basic first aid kit (B) To carry during competition At least one First aid kit per team, compulsory items include crepe bandage, Elastoplasts for minor cuts, 2 triangular bandages (blister kit is advisable) At least one Mobile phone per team (at least one per team with phone number provided to the organizer for communication purpose on the event day) One Waterproof marker pen per team At least one Lighting device for per team (6 hours Rogainers only) One Compass for each member One Whistle for each member One Watch for each member At least 1.5 liters of drinking water for each member at START (No water will be provided before START, you are required to bring your own water to the event centre). You are strongly advised not to use one off disposable water bottles Wet / cold weather gear and warm clothing for each person (compulsory if weather forecast is severe / temperature below 10 o C) If weather forecast is severe / temperature below 10 o C, one space/emergency blanket /Survival Bag per team (6 hours Rogainers only) Small backpack Towel wrist band (to protect your E-card and synthetic wristband) Gaiters or other leg coverings (full body cover is strongly recommended) Shoes with good grips Sunhat, sun cream, insect repellent Snack on the course (staminade, energy/muesli bars, dried fruit, chocolate) Compulsory items: You should have the above personal and team equipment for safety and comfortable reasons, checking of equipment by officials will take place at start or check points. Failure to carry the compulsory items of equipment will endanger your life and lead to disqualification. 2019/01/24 8
9 LIGHT MEAL ARRANGEMENT Light meal will be provided to competitors from 13:30 to 14:30 (For 3 Hours Classes) 15:30 to 16:30 (For 6 Hours Classes). Please collect at the collection counter by presenting number bibs. Each light meal includes a Ham Sandwich OR a Tomato & Lettuce Sandwich (limited quantity for each choice, first-come-first-served, while supply lasts) and vegetarian Borscht. Notes: 1) Please bring along your number bibs to the Catering Area for stamping after getting your meal. 2) To minimize the disposal of vast amount of disposable cutleries and containers during event, please bring your own reusable cup and containers in order to facilitate the process. Fix amount of soup would be provided to each competitor no matter the size of one s containers. The Organizer will not provide disposable cutleries and containers, but will provide cutleries and containers rental services at HK$50 per set. 3) Please have your meals at designated area of Catering Area. 4) Please keep the countryside clean and take your litter home. - End /01/24 9
