1 2017 East of Scotland Individual Championships in conjunction with SOSOL7 SUNDAY 19 NOVEMBER 2017 Organised by EUOC At Heriot-Watt University, Riccarton, Edinburgh EH14 4AS Edinburgh university welcomes you to this event. Come and run our urban courses. You can compete in the championships if you are a member of an eligible clubs (see below for more details). For newcomers just come and choose the course you would like to do and have fun. Start times will be from 10:30am till 12:30pm. Pre-entries preferred but there will be limited on the day entries available from am on a first come first served basis. Entry Price: Entry prices for entry on the day will be 6 for a junior or a student, 12 for an adult BOF member. There will be a 1 supplement for non BOF juniors, and two for seniors. 2 To be eligible for a Trophy, competitors must be a member of an East of Scotland orienteering Club: OA Club: ELO, ESOC, EUOC, INT, KFO, RR, TAY. ESOA Trophies will be awarded to the winner of each Age-class running the Colour-Coded course according to the chart below. Juniors (M/W20-) running up will be eligible to win an older Age-class trophy. Seniors (M/W21+) will only be eligible for their own Age-class within the appropriate Course. Directions: Follow signs to Heriot Watt University or satnav to Heriot Watt University, Third Gait, Currie EH14 4AS. If attacking from the city bypass come off at the Calder junction and follow signs for Heriot Watt University. Take the first exit at the next roundabout and it will be signed from there. It is a 300m walk from the car parking to registration and 1km from the overflow car park. The maps below should help. Registration is held in the Oriam building. Please follow the taped route from the south side of the car park (and where the exit is) to the registration. Please follow the taped route from the entrance of the overflow, back, in the direction you drove in from, to the registration.

4 Entry on the day: EOTD will be available. Please arrive early to give yourself the best chance of getting the course you want to compete on. Prices will be the same as online ( 6 for a child/student, 12 for an adult BOF members, will cost 1 more for non BOF children/students, 2 for adults). Starts/finishes: There are two starts. One for White, Yellow, Orange, and Light Green courses and another for all others. They are very close and have the same start channel. The route to the start is about 50m and will be taped. Though start times have been allocated, these are advisory, not compulsory. We would encourage people to aim for their start times however it is not essential. Punching start on all courses. The starts are from 10:30am till 12:30pm. Start times are found on fabian 4. There is a manned remote finish for all the junior courses (White, Yellow, Orange and Light Green). Please inform your child of this. This is to avoid having them race across the compulsory road crossing instead calmly crossing at a sensible pace. Tapes will show them the way back roughly 300m. Terrain: The courses are on a varied terrain, mixed parkland (short grass at worst) to the more traditional urban sprint (asphalt/concrete) terrain. Shoes with some form of grip would be advised if it is looking wet however normal running shoes will be fine. Dobs are not allowed. Courses: There will be a 4minute call up. 1. Start line talk/start line check 2. Blank maps 3. Control descriptions 4. Called up All courses except the white, yellow and orange have a compulsory road crossing. Please cross at the appropriate spot (it will be obvious when you get there, the 2 nd last control) and listen to the instructions from the marshals. You will be disqualified if you fail follow the marshal s instructions. Courses close at 2pm. Course lengths: Brown 6.8km 35 controls double sided map Blue 6.0km 27 controls double sided map Green 4.9km 23 controls double sided map Short Green 3.1km 17 controls single sided map Light Green 2.8km 15 controls single sided map Orange 2.1km 14 controls single sided map Yellow 1.4km 16 controls single sided map White 1.3km 17 controls single sided map First aid: There will be a qualified first aider in registration located just inside the Oriam building.

5 Safety: Since it is an urban area there will be cars moving about on the course. Please be sensible and check before you cross roads that there are no cars moving. Since it s a university campus they should be moving slowly but there is still a risk present. There are two road crossings one next to the start of the courses and one right next to the finish arena for the senior courses. These will be marshalled. Please follow the instructions of the marshals, you will be disqualified if you don t. The one near the end of the courses is a compulsory road crossing where runners have to cross at a zebra crossing. Controls have been placed to make this the optimum route. Failure to cross here may result in disqualification. Please also avoid the bus stop area the courses have been planned to avoid this area. There is also a small loch in the middle of the area. Children s courses have been planned to avoid this area but please inform your children to stay away as there is a risk of falling in. Any runners that are seen to cross flower beds illegally will be disqualified. Please do not cross these as if may effect getting permission for this area in the future. All areas are mapped as out of bounds. The playing field next to the start is out of bounds please stop yourself from warming up there. String course: There will be a string course. It will open from 11:30am and close around 13:00pm. Toilets: Toilets will be available from the oriam centre. Follow signs from registration. Food: Food will be available until 3pm it is found at the Bistro. Punching: Mixed punching SPORTIdent (SI) electronic timing will be used, which means that both SIAC (contactless) cards and older SI dibber (contact) cards will work. SI cards (dibbers) will be available for hire at no charge, but there will be a charge of 30 if lost. Contactless SIAC cards will be available for hire at 3; 60 if lost. There will be a SIAC battery test available at registration, and a SIAC test in the start lane. All runners should punch the start unit. All controls and the finish will be contactless. After the finish all runners should punch a Finish Safety Check unit Note for brown runners: The Brown course has more than 30 controls. Runners with type8 cards (2,000,000 to 2,999,999) must and with type 5 (1 to 499,999) should obtain a replacement at registration.
