1 Final Details Liverpool Big Weekend Liverpool Urban Sunday 4 th September All competitors take part at their own risk & are responsible for their own safety. The event takes place in Liverpool City and on Liverpool Waterfront. There are two starts one on the Waterfront and one in the City centre. There is just one finish for all competitors on the Waterfront. This event is part of the UK Urban League (sponsored by CompassSport and BML print). Travel Directions From M62 From the end of the M62 continue W on the A5080 (follow brown signs for Waterfront or green signs for Wallasey ). After about 2.8 miles you are forced right by a road closure, through one set of lights then left. Keep heading W on the dual carriageway. After just under 1 mile the road drops down a slope and under a pedestrian bridge: turn right at the traffic lights, then left at the next lights (still signed Waterfront ; stop following Wallasey ). At the 4 th lights (including the pelican crossing) turn right at the BMW garage (signed Southport not Waterfront ) then immediately left at the next lights, left at the bottom and right at the little roundabout. Keep left at junction(signed); car-park is on the left after 300m. From North M6 then M58 From the end of the M58 take the A5036 (green sign Docks / brown sign Waterfront ). After 3½ miles, at the end of the A5036, turn left at the roundabout onto the A565 (brown sign Waterfront ). After 4 miles turn right at the minor traffic lights (BMW garage on left), left at the bottom and right at the little roundabout. Keep left at junction(signed); car-park is on the left after 300m. From Chester and North Wales From the old (Birkenhead) tunnel, take the dock exit. At the end turn right and take the left fork into the dock road; turn left at the little roundabout. Keep left at junction (signed); car-park is on the left after 300m. Parking The recommended option is at Princes Dock, 7 William Jessop Way, Liverpool. L3 1QZ. (For those who know the area, access is from the Dock Road first roundabout North of the Pier Head.) This is a multi storey car park. Take a ticket on entry and pay at the pay station before leaving. Fee is 3.50 all day at weekends. Please follow tapes or map below from Princes Dock car park to registration. Assembly 12 Princes Parade Car park Princes Dock

2 Train Please use walking route from James Street Station. The city centre and Waterfront area not on the map below are Out of Bounds to competitors until after their run. Mainline Lime Street Station is Liverpool s main national rail terminus, with main line trains to and from Manchester, London, Scotland and the rest of the UK. National Rail Enquiries (Tel ) can assist with specific train timings. Princes Dock is approximately 5 minutes by taxi. Alternatively, from Lime Street please travel to James Street station. Within Lime St. station head for the Wirral Line. Take a Wirral Line train 2 stops to James St. then walk from there to Princes Dock following directions as for Merseyrail below. Merseyrail Go to James St. Station (if coming in by the Northern line, change at Central Station). From the exit, head downhill to the traffic lights. Cross to the other side of the dual carriageway and turn right. Follow to the end of the Liver Buildings then cut diagonally left towards the left side of the Crowne Plaza. Head North along Princes Parade until you reach the dock; follow the pavement up the W side of the dock until you reach the footbridge on your right. 3 Facilities at Assembly The Assembly area is inside 12 Princes Parade, Princes Dock (L3 1BG). There is an indoor area suitable for leaving clothes and belongings. Although it will be supervised by club members, it is not a secure area. Bags are left at your own risk. Registration, enquiries and download will be available in the reception area of 12 Princes Parade. Toilets are also available in this building. SI cards - If you have hired an SI-Card for the day, please come to Enquiries at Assembly to collect it. If you have entered the Men Open course and have a version 5 (number 1-499,999) or version 8 (number 2,000,000-2,999,999) SI-Card, please come to Enquiries to collect a replacement higher capacity SI-Card to use. Although your v5 and v8 cards can cope with the 30 controls, you have limited (v5) or no (v8) scope for mispunches or double punches! Hired SI-Cards MUST be handed in to the organising team ON THE DAY of final use at download even if you retire during the event. This is an essential safety requirement of the event and failure to do so could result in an unnecessary search. There will be a charge of 25+VAT for non-returned cards. Race numbers These will NOT be your Fabian4 entry number. A separate number will be allocated for the event. Details of allocated numbers will be available on the SELOC website. ALL competitors must collect their race number and map to the starts from Enquiries. Race bibs are required to be worn for safety reasons. They ensure that competitors are recognised as taking part in an official event and it will also have organisers contact number in case of emergencies. COMPETITOR'S emergency contact details will also need to be completed on reverse. Entry on the Day Entry on the Day is available at registration (subject to LIMITED map availability). BUT anyone wanting to enter after the closing date for online entry can the entries secretary at deesidenews@yahoo.com to reserve a map in advance, subject to availability. Race bibs will carry the emergency phone number for the organiser.

4 Starts Starts are from pm City start 800m from Assembly Competitors should head south from assembly then cross into city centre at marked crossing point. A map will be provided at assembly and the route will also be taped. Pier Head start 600m from assembly A map will be provided at assembly but the route will also be taped. Note that this route splits from the route to the City start after 400m. There will be a Merchant Navy Day parade on the Waterfront which may affect late finishers. Please be aware that if you enter the waterfront area near the finish around you may encounter this moving parade. Finish and Download There is one finish for all courses on the waterfront Ensure you punch at the finish control to record your time. ** You must download even if you retire ** Please return to Download at the Assembly area (12 Princes Parade) We need to know that all competitors have returned thank you No water will be provided at the finish. Courses Close 2pm Map Notes 1:5000, 2.5m contours, ISSOM symbols, printed on waterproof paper. Surveyed Sept to May 2016, with a check for changes (particularly building sites) at the end of July Courses 1 to 3: A3, double sided. Courses 4, 5, 8: A3, single sided. Courses 6, 7: A4, single sided. Please note the following points: 1) Pavement edges are shown only on those roads likely to be carrying significant traffic or where they could be of use for navigation. If using a road with pavements shown, please take particular care of traffic. 2) Un-crossable fences are often shown as un-crossable walls tags have been omitted for clarity. For the same reason, crossable fences sometimes lack tags. 3) In a couple of places there are a significant number of scattered gravestones, too many to show individually. The ISOM gravestone symbol has been used to indicate these areas: the stones have not been individually mapped.

5 4) (Does not apply to the A4 map) One shopping area, effectively a canyon about 150m long, has three levels. There is not one main running level: which level you come in on depends on your direction of approach. All three levels are shown; to improve clarity, the middle level is shown in a darker brown. There are bridges across and stairs between levels (also one escalator which is OUT OF BOUNDS for safety reasons: it is marked in olive green but that is difficult to see as it is small). It can be difficult to read where the walkways continue under bridges. No controls have been placed in this area, but you may choose a route which crosses it: the planner's advice is that you will be able to see what to do when you get there. 5) In the vicinity of the finish there are currently various tents and fairground rides. They are shown on the map with the temporary construction symbol (see below), and were surveyed on 1 st August. They may or may not be there on the day of the event. If you are unfamiliar with the ISSOM map symbols (as used on sprint maps) you are recommended to read through pages 9 to 23 of this: ALL competitors are reminded of the following symbols: The impassable vegetation symbol has been used, in some cases, to indicate flower beds which MUST NOT be crossed even if this looks feasible. There will be observers out on the courses and anyone seen crossing such areas will be disqualified. Note that the word 'impassable' means THOU SHALT NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT CROSSING IT. That includes sneaky little tricks like taping your dibber to the end of selfie stick and poking it through! Courses and Terrain Liverpool is a living city: it will not be 'dead' on Sunday morning. You will be crossing roads carrying traffic: use the pavement edge symbol on the map as a warning to take particular care. However, keep your wits about you at all times. You will also pass through areas with significant numbers of pedestrians (both tourists and shoppers): please be considerate and careful, and take blind corners wide.

6 Courses 1 to 5 and 8 will have a timed-out road crossing in the latter part of the race. This is a pelican crossing of a six-lane dual carriageway: you DO need to press the button, otherwise the pedestrian phase will be skipped. You MUST obey the lights. There is a control as you arrive and a second one as you leave: your time between these controls (up to a maximum of 2 minutes) will be deducted. Competitors who do not punch at this compulsory crossing will be disqualified. Courses 1 to 3 use two maps, back-to-back; the middle part of the course is on the back. As the mapped areas overlap, some legs appear on both maps; consequently the description sheet does not include an instruction to turn over. Come on, you are adults Courses 6 and 7 (the junior courses) have been kept to a part of the area with minimal road traffic. In a couple of places you will be running parallel to traffic heading for a car-park but you will not cross this traffic. There are also a couple of places where you cross roads which might have a vehicle going to/from an apartment or making a delivery: take care. Description sheets: pictorial descriptions are printed on the map for all senior courses, text descriptions will be printed on the map for courses 6 and 7. Loose description sheets are available at the start. Clothing: full body cover is NOT required shorts may be worn. As almost all of the area is paved, wear trainers or similar. Start Procedure: Starts Start times will be allocated via Fabian4 they will b e available by 28 th August at the latest. Blank maps and control descriptions will be available in the start lane Changes and late arrivals will be at the discretion of the start officials. A punching start will be used.
