2 ENTRY INFORMATION: 1. All entries MUST be in the hands of the regatta registrar no later than midnight on Sunday September 14 th, It is a hassle deal with late entries, so I would appreciate your cooperation. 2. Registration forms must be completed in full. Entries must include RCA numbers and ages for all athletes, including spares. After September 14 th, any additions, deletions or changes will be charged a fee of $10 per change. The entry forms include room list spares. There are no spares for singles, one spare for pairs and doubles, two spares for fours and quads, and four spares for eights. If extra spares are listed, only the first ones will be accepted. 3. RCA memberships are required for all participants. Registration will be verified through the RCA offices and participants not registered with RCA will NOT be allowed participate. 4. The registration fee is $40 per athlete and includes a meal after the third flight. Registrations received after September 15 th cost $45 per athlete. Please make cheques out the Fredericn Rowing Club. Fees will be collected at the safety meeting at 8 pm on Friday September 19 th. Athletes that have not paid will not be permitted race. 5. This is an open-event regatta; athletes may enter any boat (1x, 2-/x, 4+/-/x, 8+) in the following categories: Junior B (Under 17): A rower is classified as an Under 17 competir until the 31st of December of the year in which he or she reaches the age of 16. After that date, the rower shall be classified as a Junior rower. Junior (Under 19): A rower who is no longer an Under 17 competir shall be classified as a Junior competir until the 31st of December of the year in which he or she reaches the age of 18. After that date the rower shall be classified as an Under 23 rower. Under 23: A rower who is no longer a Junior shall be classified as Under 23 until the 31st of December of the year in which he or she reaches the age of 22. After that date, the rower shall be classified as Senior. Senior: A rower who is 23 years or older during the calendar year in which he or she is competing. Master: A rower may compete as a Master from the beginning of the year during which he or she attains the age of 21. There are no handicaps applied Masters until they reach 28 years of age. Novice: This year (from Jan 2014) is their first season of racing (Flight 2). University: Rower enrolled as a university student for the academic year (Flight 2).

3 6. A ranking will be established using Rowing Canada s Canadian Gold Medal Prognostic Times (). First, second and third place medals will be awarded in flights 1 and 3. For flight 2; first, second and third place medals will be awarded separately for University and Novice crews. In the case of mixed gender crews, the will be weighted according the proportion of each gender in the boat. In the case of mixed-aged crews, the boat will compete at the fastest category of the crew (ie. a 2x comprised of a 20- and 30- year old will race at the Senior standard. 7. percentages for those entering a Masters category (>27) will be adjusted using the Garret-Zezza Handicap system and the Junior values (Table 1). For crew boats, the handicap will be based on the average age in the boat. For Junior B categories, 5 will be added the Junior. Please include date of birth for any athlete registering in the Masters/U23/Junior/Junior B category. 8. For Flight 2, we will have first, second and third place medals in two categories: University and Novice. 4 RACING AND COURSE INFORMATION: Each entry will be assigned one of three flights, with the intent of grouping the same/similar boat classes in the same flight. We will have three flights: The first will be a 4 km course, followed by a University/Novice 2 km race and an open 2 km race. The course for the 4 km race, starting at the Princess Margaret Bridge and ending in front of the club. Detailed course information will follow. Flight 1: 7:45 am (4 km)-- Open Flight 2: 9:45 am (2 km)-- University and Novice crews Flight 3: 11:00 am (2 km)-- Open For the first flight it will take about min get from the dock the warm-up area (depending on experience/weather). For flights 2 and 3, it will take about 15 minutes. Crews should have done their boat checks and be ready launch 60 minutes before the start of the race. The dock will open at 6:45 am with launches permitted at 7 am or as determined by the dock marshal. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL LATE CREWS BE PERMITTED ON COURSE. For safety, no boats will be permitted leave the dock after 7:20am for the first flight, 9:30 for the second flight, or 10:45 for the third flight. Boats that do not reach the warm-up area before the official start time of the race will be disqualified. The races will be conducted in a head-race style, with a staggered start and chase-racing. The first flight will be on the 4 km course, the second and third on the 2 km course. Boats will be started at 20-second intervals and should be at full speed when passing through the start line. A run-up zone will be indicated. At finish line, crews must continue rowing until they have left the finish area prevent any collisions or interference with other crews. Coaches: Please ensure that any boat and athlete conflicts are identified (same boat required for different athletes). The best way do this is arrange your athletes/boats/oars in different flights so that conflicts are immediately obvious. Please use the Excel spreadsheet for this. PROTESTS/APPEALS: Any protests must be received within 90 minutes of race, and appeals must be received within 24 hours. A fee of $150, payable the Fredericn Rowing Club, must be submitted with any protest or appeal and will be returned if the protest/appeal is successful.

5 REGATTA SAFETY: 1. For the safety of the regatta, there will be a check of boats ensure that heel ties as well as bow balls are in place. Failure meet the RCA safety restrictions for racing shells may result in disqualification. 2. There will be a coaches and officials meeting Friday September 20 th at 8:00 pm at the Small Craft Aquatic Center meeting room. At this meeting the major rules of the regatta, the final race schedule, and any other administrative details will be discussed. An aerial map will also be provided at this time. No new entries will be accepted at this meeting. 3. Security has been arranged for boat trailers at FRC for Friday night before the regatta. Registration: You should have received (or you can download from the FRC website) an Excel file where you can fill out your entries. There are three sheets within the file, so please make sure that you include birthdates and RCA numbers. It is your responsibility make sure your athletes are registered with RCA and have the appropriate insurance coverage for racing. Please put your athletes in the appropriate flight and make sure there are no equipment conflicts. IMMUNOTECH INC. ROWING CANADA, HIGH PERFORMANCE CLINIC: Sunday September 21 st, 6 am 3 pm. On Sunday Sept 21 st, the day following the regatta, we will be hosting the Immunotech Inc.- Rowing Canada, High Performance Clinic from 6 am 3 pm for Junior and Senior Athletes. The clinic will be run by Woman s National Team Coach, Al Morrow; NB High- Performance Coach, Chantelle Hanley; plus a senior national team athlete. More Information and applications will be available soon. SATURDAY BANQUET: Those staying a second night attend the clinic or the Sunday open row are welcome attend a banquet dinner and silent auction at the Delta Saturday Evening. The evening will feature talks by our visiting National team representatives, a silent auction and a chance mingle with your rowing colleagues. SUNDAY OPEN ROW: Crews not participating in the clinic are welcome join the FRC for a long distance row up (or down) the beautiful Saint John River on Sunday morning. Recover from your Saturday racing with a leisurely row on the river followed by a group breakfast at a local restaurant.

6 ACCOMMODATIONS: We have arranged a group rate with the Delta Fredericn with room rates starting at $109. I recommend you book early! Regatta-Fredericn-Rowing-Club Head of the Four Bridges Regatta T-Shirts: You can pre-order the limited-edition Head of the Four Bridges regatta T-shirt at a cost of $20. Orders for T-shirts should arrive by Aug 29 th, but payment can be submitted with the regatta fees. T-shirts will be a quick-dry style and the colour has not yet been finalized, but we will post samples on the website before the order deadline. We will also have shirts available for sale the day of the regatta.
