Can actually give an athlete their first warning if it is communicated to and documented by the referee. Oregon State Track Meet had a Uniform tent manned by a clerk who was available all day to answer uniform questions Watches the break line for any violations Umpires Records the name and number of each competitor This is done by the Meet Manager computer system at most meets Clerk s job is to make sure each athlete gets the correct hip number(s) and the correct lane assignment. Assigns each runner to the proper heat and starting position These assignments may have changed when the coaches scratched athletes so competitors may not

7 Helps control noise when the starting line is near the check-in location Clerk should help clear the area of people who are not needed and keep competitors voices down during the start. Should meet with umpires prior to the start of the meet to review violation criteria Referee May make adjustments to heat or lane assignments This now has to be done in the press box, however the Clerk will be the first to know when athletes don t check in that some adjustments need to be made. The Clerk should contact the press box as soon as possible so that any adjustments to heats can be made without interruptions to the meet. Is responsible for giving all necessary instructions concerning the rules governing the race Since the Clerk may not be an official this is usually done at the starting line by either the Referee or the Starter.

8 Shall remind runners to stay in their lanes at the end of race run in lanes Shall keep track of the number of events each contestant has competed in Games Committee Should walk to the starting line with the 200M runners If there are 2 Clerks it is great to have someone at the start of the 200M and the 300H to help any competitors who have forgotten their heat assignment. The Clerk can have the first heat of the 200 M runners on the track with their blocks set up Is the first point of contact for athletes and coaches Be ready to answer almost any question Be consistent. Follow the same patterns of rules, deadlines for the duration of the meet
