Fran Zimmerman has this amazing streak of winning raffle prizes that are given out during the Trettin awards ceremony. LVDC members - don't forget to turn in your race results to Larry Huyck. Also, for those who participate in the Larry Huyck Lazy- Boy method of training, the running club does not endorse or promote this product. Next local running event is the Scott Williams Memorial run on April 7. Check the newsletter for details on this event and all others that are upcoming. Keep Calm and Move On! 3 SATURDAY APRIL 14, :00 AM.SANTA MARIA FITNESS SERIES. SANTA MARIA YMCA, 3400 SKYWAY DR. SANTA MARIA This event will start and end at the Santa Maria Valley YMCA. Parking will be at the YMCA as well. Parking is free! We will be holding 5K ($19), 10K ( $24)and a Kids Dash ($3). These prices are through February 28. Please arrive by 8:00am. The opening ceremony will be from 8:15 to 8:45am. The Kids Dash will be held at 8:45am. The 5K will start at 9am (sharp). The 10K will start at 9:30am (sharp). Forty percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the Santa Maria ValleyYMCA. There will be a free after-race party that will be held from 10am to 12 noon (everyone is welcome). For more information click the link below: NANCY PERRY SCHOLARSHIP The Nancy Perry Scholarships applications are available at the Scholarship Coordinator offices at Cabrillo & Lompoc High School. The final date to deliver the application to the office is Monday - April 16, LVDC will identify the recipients to the schools on April 20th. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to each high school. The awards ceremonies are held in May. SATURDAY, APRIL 21, :00 AM. MIRACLE MILES FOR KIDS 10K. MORRO ROCK, MORRO BAY. This beautiful 10K (6.2 miles) race course runs along the water s edge from Morro Rock to the Cayucos Pier.Due to the unpredictable nature of weather, you may be rerouted off the beach and onto residential neighborhoods for a portion of the race course. We will notify you in advance if a detour is necessary. $50 from February 15th March 31, $60 from April 1 April 19, $65 on Race Day, Kids under 5 are Free 17 and under (Youth Discount) $15, College Student Discount $35 Your participation in Miracle Miles for Kids helps to meet critical needs of the over 1,800 children, youth and families served by FCNI annually. Whether you are an elite competitor or this is your first Marathon, Half Marathon or 5K event, our races are all about you! We want you to have fun, achieve your goal, finish strong, PR, and enjoy the journey. We'll offer you advice and support all along the way. In the end, you can be proud and we will too, of you, hanging that medal around your neck and cheering your every step. The SLO Marathon on April 29, 2018 starts and finishes at the iconic Madonna Inn and loops you through San Luis Obispo neighborhoods, historic and beautiful downtown SLO, alongside Cal Poly and out into the Edna Valley.. There is also a 5K, Children s Quarter Mile dash and a Children s 1-mile. These take place on Saturday. Click the link below for all the details, fees, start times, and activities. NITE MOVES LEADBETTER BEACH Event details and schedule Nite Moves 2018 is set to begin Wednesday, May 2 and will happen every Wednesday night through August 29 (except July 4). Swim starts at 6:20pm, run at 6:30pm About This Activity Nite Moves will be back for another fun and exciting season in 2018! RAY GIL AND ALAN HUNT MISSION ME- MORIAL 5K / 10K RUN- WALK, LA PURISIMA MIS- SION, LOMPOC. These events take place entirely within the La Purisima Mission. The courses are closed to vehicles and consist of blacktop, dirt and "some hills." They may be altered from previous years a little to insure they are accurate 5K and 10K distances. Both events will start at 9:00 AM. Registration will start at 8:00 to 9:00 AM in the Tule Village which is located northwest of the Visitor s Center approximately ¼ of a mile next to the large oak tree parallel to a service road. Entry Fees: Adults: 5K - $10 and 10K - $15. Children 17 & under: 5K - $5 and 10K - $10. (LVDC members receive a $2 discount) Awards will be given to male and female 1 st and 2 nd place winners for both distance events, There will be 8 age groups: 17 & under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+. 5 SATURDAY, MAY 12, SANTA BARBARA WINE COUNTRY HALF MARA- THON. SANTA YNEZ. Santa Barbara and the adjoining Santa Ynez Valley offer the ideal destination running experience. Held in early May on Mother s Day weekend, it s the perfect time to visit this haven for outdoor recreation. The area has plenty to offer including beach and ocean activities, hiking, biking and running trails, historic towns and missions, plenty of shopping and restaurant options, and an abundance of wineries and tasting rooms. And you ll LOVE this scenic course that runs from downtown Santa Ynez through Los Olivos into the Danish-settled town of Solvang. Bring your family and friends to enjoy a weekend full of activities in this bucolic setting and celebrate in style at the expanded post-race Wine & Music Festival in Solvang Park. Run the half marathon or the two-person relay. Form a team of six or more. Run with, or for, your mother. But be warned this race is habit forming and sells out early! 6 SATURDAY, MAY 19, :30 AM. BULL CANYON RUN, SANTA MARIA. The Bull Canyon Run began in This 5K & 10K Run/Walk is organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run, whose goal is to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics. This is one of the largest running events on the Central Coast, designed for individuals and families. We have t-shirts for everyone. Top Awards: top finisher in each age group receives a plaque. Age groups are in 5-year age groups starting at age 5. Overall champion in each race M/F receives a plaque. Top boy and girl in kids races get a plaque. Medals: Each 5 year age group has a gold, silver and bronze medal. The rest get a participation medal. First 3 finishers in the kid s race (boy and girl) get the gold, silver and bronze medal. The rest get participation medals. We encourage registration via active.com, but will accept paper applications up to May 16th. Special Olympians do not pay to participate in the Bull Canyon Run. They will need to contact the Special Olympic office in Santa Maria to register. If you have any questions, and for more information please contact the race director via the Bull Canyon Run web site Cut off date to register is noon on Friday, May 18, 2018, through Active.com. Start times: 10K Run/ 07:30/5K 08:00 / 1/2K Kid's 09:30/1K Kid's 09:40. Entry Fees: 5K & 10K Adults $30, Youth $25 (under 18). Kids 1/2 K and 1 K $15 (ages 2-9) Click the BULL for more information and to register. IMPORTANT: THERE IS A 1000 PARTICIPANT LIMIT FOR THIS EVENT. SUNDAY, MAY 27, :00 AM STRAW- BERRY STAMPEDE 5K & 10K RUN AND 5K WALK. ARROYO GRANDE. The Strawberry Stampede is a non-profit fundraising event to benefit youth activities in the South County. It is held on Sunday of the Memorial Holiday Weekend, at the same time as the Arroyo Grande Strawberry Festival. These courses are scenic routes through Arroyo Grande with registration (6:45 AM on Race Day), the start, and the finish all at the end of Short Street by the swinging bridge. Proceeds go towards Kiwanis community service projects. Awards are three deep in five-year age groups in each of the races along with refreshments and prize drawings. Contact is Erich Salas, K Run and Walk This is an out and back course which is relatively flat with a couple of slight hills at about 1.2 miles and just past the turn around point. The water station is at mile 2. 10K Run The 6.2 mile course starts and finishes in the Village of Arroyo Grande on Short Street behind the Swinging Bridge. The runners will leave the start/finish line and make their way out to Lopez Drive. A few small rolling hills getting out of the village and then a fast flat section across Huasna Road and back along Branch Mill Road through the village and back to the start/ finish area. Water stations at mile 3 and at mile 5. All participants and volunteers receive refreshments including our legendary loads of delicious, fresh, locally grown strawberries! Entry Fees: $25 w/out shirt and before May 18., $30 after that date. Under 14 years old are free. If you want a t-shirt it is $5 more. 7 SATURDAY, JUN 2, 2018, 8:00 AM. LIGHTHOUSE ATASCADERO - 5K BENEFIT FUN RUN/WALK AND FAM- ILY DAY POMAR JUNCTION VINEYARD & WINERY. TEMPLETON, CA Family Fun Day! The LIGHTHOUSE 5k Benefit Fun Run and Family Fun Day will feature an amazing race course for runners and walkers. Participants may choose to run or walk this challenging 5k course through the vineyard. There will be a kids 1/2 mile race following the finish of the 5k run as well as a 100 yard dash for those age 6 and under. Entry fees are Kids ½ mile - $5 and the 5K Run is $25.Entry fees are not refundable but are transferable. Enjoy the Family Activity Area: Bounce House, Face Painting, and Crafts. Stay for the raffle prizes, breakfast burritos and rock out to music from our DJ. The Pomar Junction Tasting Room will also be open to the public.pomar Junction Vineyard & Winery 5036 South El Pomar Road Templeton, CA Thanks to Jimmy Eum for taking photos at the Trettin Memorial 5K while Larry was running the 5K He did a fantastic job in capturing participants as they passed through the gate on the way to the finish line. Photos are on page 8. SATURDAY, JUNE 23, AM. FLOWER FESTIVAL PARADE ROUTE 1K KIDS RUN AND 3K RUN/WALK, LOMPOC, CA. 1K Kid s Run starts at 8:30 AM and 3K Run/Walk at 9:00 AM. Start and finish in the Times Square Plaza parking lot at 511 North H Street next to PLUS Property Management. NOTE: Start/Finish staging area and the shorter course distance of this event due to changes in start area of Parade floats/ participants and hazards with the course around the shopping center. Registration starts at 7:30 AM. Pre-registration not required but recommended for speedy check-in morning of event. Parking available approximately ½ block away in the Lompoc Plaza next to Vons s Gas Station located at North H & College Street. Entry fee: $5 for 1 K Kids Run and $10 for Adult Run/Walk ($2 discount for LVDC members). Age category awards for the 1K Kids Run are 5 and under, 6-8, and Age categories in the 3K Run are 12 and Under, 13-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-79, and 80 Plus. Awards for 3K Walkers are 1 st & 2 nd Male & Female. Purpose of event is to raise research funds and awareness of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) - a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective gene. 100 Percent of entry fees will be donated in honor of 11-year-old Mallory Holloway. She was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis after her 2nd birthday.
