Bobcats Begin Outdoor Season at Wake Forest Open Ohio Track and Field began the outdoor portion of its 2010 schedule over the weekend, competing at the Wake Forest Open. Though there was no team scoring at the meet, the Bobcats were very well-represented. Senior Emily Amendola took first place in the hammer throw with a mark of meters ( feet), a distance that ranks fourth all-time in program history. She also finished fourth in the discus throw meters ( feet) to cap off a very solid weekend. Track Begins Outdoor Season at Wake Forest Ohio Track and Field begins the outdoor portion of its season Friday, opening the campaign at the 2010 Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The team will be part of over 1,500 athletes from over 40 different schools including 15 from the state of North Carolina that will be in attendance. Allen Wins as Bobcats Finish Ninth Ohio Track and Field finished competition at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, taking ninth place with a total of 26.5 points. Senior Bahiyjaui Allen led the way for the Bobcats, taking first in the with a lifetime best, school record and provisional-qualifying 16.10m ( ) mark. The senior from Toledo, Ohio, is no stranger to success at the conference championships, as this is her second career MAC title. Track and Field to Mount Pleasant for Conference Championships The Bobcats head north this week for the 2010 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted on the campus of Central Michigan University. Ohio is coming off recent strong performances at the Alumni Open (1st), the All-Ohio Championships (4th) and the recent Ohio State Tune-Up, a competition that involved no team scoring. Cats Complete Day in Columbus Ohio Track and Field competed in its seventh meet of the 2010 indoor season Friday, participating at the Ohio State Tune-Up. The Bobcats were led by three performances in track events that set season-bests for the team and one in a field event that tied a team top mark this season. Bobcats to Compete at Ohio State Tune-Up With the Mid-American Conference Championships just over a week away, the Bobcats will travel to Columbus on Friday for the Ohio State Tune-Up. The events are set to take place at French Field House, an indoor facility on the campus of Ohio State University. Ohio is fresh off a fourth place performance at the 2010 All-Ohio Championships, a meet that saw numerous improved times and scores across the board. Ohio Finishes Fourth at All-Ohio Championships Ohio Track and Field took fourth place at the 2010 All-Ohio Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday, finishing with a final team point total of 102. The Bobcats had a successful weekend at the championships, setting ten seasonbest times and scores. Seven of these season-bests came from track events while the remaining three were earned in the field. Bobcats Finish First at Alumni Open Ohio Track and Field ran, threw and jumped its way to first place at the 2010 Alumni Open on Friday, earning the highest score in the eight team field. The Bobcats ( points) bested Marshall (171.25), Robert Morris (101.37), West Virginia Wesleyan (71), Marietta (45), Duquesne (35), Concord (31) and West Liberty State (4) en route to taking home the title. The Cats were paced by 27 top-five finishes, including four first-place results.

2 Bobcats to Compete in Alumni Open After turning in a series of solid performances at the two-day Findlay Classic, Ohio Track and Field travels to Marietta College for the 2010 Alumni Open. Friday s competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. with the women s weight throw competition. Running events are set to begin right around 3 p.m. with the women s mile run. to compete in the 2010 Buckeye Classic, hosted by Ohio State University. Joining the Cats in this series of competitions will be a number of Ohio schools with Dayton, Wright State and Findlay all heading up to the state capital. Findlay Classic Pays Dividends for Bobcats Ohio Track and Field finished competition at the two-day 2010 Findlay Classic on Saturday, a competition that was highlighted by a number of impressive Bobcat performances. Though there was no team scoring at the meet, the Cats turned in multiple quality finishes. The distance medley team of (Troy, Ohio), Erin Gale (Wadsworth, Ohio), Jenielle Hunt (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Annie Beecham (Granville, Ohio) finished in first place with a time of 12: This quartet of Bobcats beat the second-place team by almost 14 full seconds. Track and Field Prepares for the Findlay Classic After a strong showing at last weekend s State Farm Games in which the Bobcats earned 26 top-five finishes, the team heads to Findlay, Ohio, for the 2010 Findlay Classic. Each day s events will be split up into sessions, with a total of six spanning the two days of competition. Ohio Competes Well at State Farm Games Ohio Track and Field completed its third event of the 2010 season, competing at the 2010 State Farm Games on the campus of West Virginia University. The `Cats were well-represented Saturday, as the team combined for 26 finishes in the top five of the day s events. Alexis Geiger (Gallipolis, Ohio) and Bahiyjaui Allen (Toledo, Ohio) won one and two events, respectively, for the Green and White. Bobcats Finish Seventh at Bowling Green Challenge Ohio was paced by six top-five finishes in the 2010 Bowling Green Challenge on Saturday, as the team finished seventh of ten. The Green and White finished with 42 points and ahead of Oakland, Detroit and IPFW. Six Bobcats finished in the top five places of their respective events, as Abigail Swift, Annie Beecham,, Christen Bosch, Cathy Udeani and Emily Amendola all turned in very solid performances. Track and Field Heads North for Bowling Green Challenge The Cats will join nine other schools (including Mid- American Conference foes Toledo, Miami, Ball State, Central Michigan and host Bowling Green) at the 2010 Bowling Green Challenge. Events will begin at 11 a.m. with the 20 lb. weight throw. Ohio Competes Well at Buckeye Classic The Bobcats nabbed one first-place spot at the 2010 Buckeye Classic as junior Cathy Udeani earned the top mark in the high jump competition. Her leap of was the highest during the two-day competition. Angela Klimkowski also had a solid day for the Green and White, finishing sixth in both the one mile run (5:30.36) and the 800 meter run (2:27.56). There was no team scoring in the event. 4 Clay Calkins It s not easy taking over for a legend, but Ohio s Head Track and Field and Cross Country Coach Clay Calkins has met the challenge with tremendous success in his sixth year at the helm since replacing Elmore Banton in June Head Coach Track & Field/Cross Country Malone 95 Coach Calkins at Ohio Individual MAC Champions -, 2007 (5,000m), 2009 (5,000m & 10,000m) - Scott Mayle, () - Carime Reinhart, 2007 (10,000m) - Bahiyjaui Allen, 2009 () Regional Champions - Scott Mayle, () National Qualifiers - Scott Mayle, , 2007 (Long Jump) - Bahiyjaui Allen, () Calkins men s and women s programs have seen a mark of steady improvement and feature several individual athletes who have made a splash on the national scene. In the 2006 outdoor track season, five of Calkins athletes competed in the NCAA Regional s in Knoxville, Tenn. Ohio s Scott Mayle moved on to win the Mideast Regional in the long jump and place 12th at the NCAA Championships. At the 2005 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships, the men and women, led by second-team All-MAC Jason Linton and first-team All-MAC Carime Reinhart, finished third and fourth, respectively. It was the men s best performance since Reinhart and the women s cross country team won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007, with Reinhart winning individually in 06. In 2008, junior Annie Beecham won the MAC crown, with finishing as the runner-up. Both runners qualified for the NCAA National Championships. While working primarily with the sprints, jumps and hurdles in , Calkins guided five of the nine Bobcats who competed in the 2003 NCAA Mideast Regionals. Mayle - who claimed both the MAC indoor and outdoor long jump titles - finished fourth at the meet with a leap of 25-10, the second-best mark in school history. Accompanied by Calkins, Mayle finished 14th at the national meet as the second-highest placing freshman in the long jump. Calkins began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Bobcats during the school year. After receiving his master s degree in athletic administration from Ohio in 1998, Calkins served as the assistant head coach for track and field at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich. During his three-and-a-half years at Hillsdale, he helped lead several Charger student-athletes to top-10 finishes at nationals in both jumps and throws. He returned to Ohio in 2002 as an assistant coach under Banton.
