1 VENTURERS AT THE SCOUT NATIONAL SAILING SCHOOL TINGIRA 2019 VISION AND AIM Following discussions with the National Team, Harry Long and Reg Williams have agreed to facilitate a program of Adventurous Activity Training and Assessment at the Jamboree. This will include a Boating/Sailing School to be conducted at Wellington Marina in conjunction with the Jamboree Water Activities NATIONAL SAILING SCHOOL This School will be operated jointly by SA and Tasmanian Branches. The SA lead will be ABC Boating, Ian Vayne whilst the Tasmanian lead will be BC Sea Scouts, Mike Patten. The school will run in conjunction with the Jamboree Boating Activity. Students will assist in the operation of the Jamboree Boating Activity and receive additional tuition before and after the jamboree participants are on site. Students and staff will live on site at the Marina. They will essentially be Day Workers from a Jamboree perspective. Students are expected to mainly be Venturers from SA and Tasmania but may include Rovers and other interested adults. The maximum enrolment will be 25 students. NATIONAL ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITIES INSTRUCTOR TEAM This team of 3 or 4 will be led by David Walsh, Chief Instructor AA. Dave will second a number of suitably qualified instructor/assessors to assist him in this exercise. This national team will be sponsored by the JEC and members will be full time Jamboree participants. Although the team will have an office at JEC HQ, members will normally be in the field, supervising activities or coaching or assessing leaders. The aim is to qualify as many people in AA competencies as is practical, so that leaders and junior leaders helping in any AA discipline during the Jamboree can get a chance to qualify or upgrade skills, should they so desire.

4 Branding Scouts National Sailing School Tingira Tingira an aboriginal word meaning ocean, or open sea, and pronounced Tinguy-rah was to become the training ship to thousands of young boys. Commander Lewin was the first of a long line of distinguished men who had been carefully chosen for their special ability of imparting knowledge and instruction to sturdy, self reliant, intelligent boys. The first intake of boys took place between 1st June and 28th June 1912, and at the date of HMAS Tingira s decommissioning, 3,168 young boys had had the privilege of having their initial training, not on a shore establishment, or a stone ship which didn t rock, but in the safe confines of one of the finest ships ever. To this day the name TINGIRA is associated with the training of Youth and the Tingira Association of Australia welcomes Scouts SA s efforts to train new young sailors.
5 The Venturer Sailing School in South Australia has graduated 16 youth sailors. Of these, half have completed or are soon to complete their Queen Scout. We have been fortunate that many of these youth members have willingly contributed to our water activities programs as assistant leaders. Graduates of the sailing school will receive a special Black Scarf with Gold trim and the Tingira Logo.
