2 A Life s Work With The Wind A Life s Work With The Wind I first built windsurfing sails of my own design 3 years ago, in 199. The biggest lesson I ve learned over the years? Is that quality sail designs imitate nature. The best - funnest, fastest, most multipurpose and easiest - sails to use are living wings that animate our windsurfing experience. With the exception of the tuned-up Airscape, Blade FR and Raceboardblades, most Loftsails 201 designs are TOTALLY NEW and reworked living wings - all with more lifelike behavior and the advantages that breathing, responsive foils deliver. Wind Vision The Monty Spindler Print Story Extract Fuller designs cannot be made flat through trim. In contrast, flat-profiled designs can morph to fuller foils with soft trim. Trim reactivity is essential for wide wind range rigged sails have two states. Static pre-wind - and the dynamic state when filled with air - and in motion. The pre-wind, static state must anticipate the navigating, dynamic state. When hooking in, the profile settles - and shifts rearward. Designs that enjoy wide wind range must anticipate this rearward shift when underway, so that optimal profile is shifted into, rather than shifted away from. How We Achieved This The Loftsails R&D team was expanded last year and. most importantly, the development program was brought back to Loftsails roots in Tarifa. I m now blessed and super confident that we have two excellent, full-time versatile windsurfers testing together here in Andalucía in Ramon Pastor and Fernando Martínez. Both riders are élite-level wave riders and racers familiar with the intricacies of slalom, Formula and Raceboard discipline demands as well as accomplished freestylers. We also have Erik Beale as our Speed Team and Speed Program Manager and are always grateful for the large numbers of locals and visiting pros that come to Tarifa to train and join in the testing process. Intensive 201 development work with the core group resulted in new curve schedules/profiles that have animated Loftsails 201 rigs to a whole new level. Ramon Pastor and Fernando Martínez are a powerful development cell and together we have created rigs that are greater than the sum of the parts. At this stage I simply couldn t be more proud of our work to date.
