3 Sorceress, Enchanting Luxury Sailing Yacht She is covered in a romantic steely grey exterior as she sits quietly in the blue waters of lovely Porto Cervo. Black vultures silently swoop overhead with their massive wingspans of over two and a half meters. A stealthy black mast stands tall, and her dark sails are lowered as she waits for the magical call to raise them up again so she can fill them with strong winds. Ripples of light are cast against her hull in the late afternoon sun, and her presence brings an aura of mystique into the harbor. The deck is a beautiful light synthetic teak wood and makes a stunning vista with the mountains rising in the background. She knows that her purpose is to sail through the waters as the sailors work the deck and waves splash them as she maneuvers through combinations of tacking and jibing. A light breeze is blowing, and the sounds from the other boats and shore are noisy as people busily talk and the goods and services of merchants are rendered. The lapping water gently pushes against her hull and is calming. In the distance, you notice that a blanket of fog and mist rolling toward the harbor as if conjured for effect given the name of the sailing superyacht is Sorceress. Sorceress is a Southern Wind 31.41m/103 enchanting luxury sailing yacht launched in May. Her maiden voyage began in Cape Town, and she proved to have exceptional performance. Sorceress was designed by Farr Yacht Design, and the general concept is by Nauta Design as part of the SW96 miniseries. Onboard, Sorceress has an owner s suite, four en-suites guest cabins, and two crew cabins. Of note, she is optimized for offshore racing and performance cruising. The owner is experienced with sailing yachts and has participated in many racing events. His brief included a larger yacht in keeping with fast-paced racing performance standards while enjoying comfortable blue water cruising with family and friends. Together, Southern Wind, Farr Yacht Design, and Nauta Design have completed their ninth project together. Over the years they have created a culture where an insatiable desire to improve the performance and aesthetics of the sailing yachts they create for their astute clientele is paramount. Southern Wind is a leader in shipbuilding and perfected its method of mini-series delivery where the wishes of the owner are integrated with the everevolving knowledge of the engineers and designers. Sorceress is the first in the brand new mini-series of cruiser-racers. A second unit is in production at this time and scheduled for launch in early

5 Porto Cervo & Monaco Sorceress made her debut at the 2017 edition of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo in September. The race is organized for the world s largest racing yachts and is jointly hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the International Maxi Association (IMA) with support from historical sponsor Rolex. It was a special occasion this year and is IMA s 50th anniversary, the body sanctioned by World Sailing to represent the Maxi classes. Sorceress performed well, and her owner says he enjoyed the event and beautiful surroundings. She then cruised to the Monaco Yacht Show and took her place in Port Hercules where she was a favorite and admired by many. This is an event where owners, brokers, and shipyards interact and collaborate. New alliances and business dealings are organized and friendships fostered. The industry show was successful in that companies and clients worked together to discover new services and products to enhance the experience of owning and chartering a superyacht. Main Saloon The main saloon is spacious and visually inviting. South African paintings splash the room with vibrant tribal reds, greens, yellows, and blues. The cool background created by white walls, grey furnishings, and mix of light and dark teak woods command your attention as you study the interesting combination of complex colors and textures. After a moment or two you realize that the rooms charm comes from the magical display of light dancing across all surfaces in the space from hull lights and through surrounding portlights. As you gaze through the windows, the vistas are breathtaking. The lifting keel is cleverly integrated into the wall of the saloon and unnoticed by the novice. A large dining table has room for all guests to enjoy fine meals prepared by the chef using the freshest ingredients. Stylish grey seating is arranged along the walls with a coffee table packed with storage compartments and ready to serve delightful treats and cold beverages. The panoramic views allowed by the Raised Saloon is amazing. The saloon is sure to become the center of many happy gatherings. Owner s Suite The owner s suite is simplistic and elegant. It is forward with en-suite studio and head for privacy. The bathroom is full beam and equipped with a shower unit and attractive fixtures. Black framed pictures hang on the wall adding interest with their bright blues and reds drawing your eye to them. The walls, floor, and baseboard of the bed is an attractive light teak wood, and the headboard is a contrasting white element of the room with lighting strips placed on his and her sides. Hull and port lights ensure the room stays brightly lit with sunshine during the day while a lighting system emits a subtle glow from underneath and around the furniture softly illuminating the room during the night. The studio and bookshelves are neatly placed in the corner of the room directly under the port light. Can you imagine sitting at the desk while pouring over maps of your favorite cities and ports while planning your next adventure? The stark white bedding pops with patterned bright red accent blankets and pillows. You see yourself sinking into the comfortable plush bed after an intense day of racing or energetic day of fun. It is a peaceful place for deep and restful sleep

The inner and outer skin is a prepreg carbon/epoxy resin with a Nomex Honeycomb core and is optimized for light weight. The interiors are of a honeycomb or foam sandwich structure with wooden veneers.

Sorceress has a draft of 3.4m/11 1-5.4m/17 7 with a lifting keel that is suitable for navigating shallower waters and bays. Its engineering provides excellent stability and sail carrying capability.

A day head provides convenience to all guests and is placed in the center of the boat. Using the same sophisticated décor as throughout the yacht, the guest cabins are smartly set up to be relaxing. Light teak wood, white ceilings and walls, and white bedding is accented in lovely ocean blue tones. Reading lights and a bookcase in each room are installed for guests to use. There are two crew cabins. The engine room, technical rooms, and chart table is arranged for efficient use by the crew. It is all in direct contact with the helms controls station. She is designed with a twin rudder configuration. A fixed bowsprit accounts for 2.18m of her LOA of 31.41m and is fixed in place with an integrated anchor arm and fitting for gennaker tack lune and furling code zero grants. This provides flexibility and allows for practical anchoring and sailing maneuvers by the captain and crew. A synthetic teak deck is used for weight optimization and is easy to maintain and a material incorporated in some of the newer yacht designs. As new products are introduced into the industry and repurposed or improved usages are identified the shipbuilders search for ways to incorporate them into their designs. An added benefit is reduced thermal transfer in hot temperatures. The Cariboni Magic Trim grants silent interiors and a clean sleek deck. She is powered by a Steyr SE286E ,000 rpm engine. The fuel tank capacity is 3,780 litres and water tank capacity 1,500 litres. The yacht is well equipped to be used in competitive racing events and long-range pleasure cruises. Closing As Sorceress cruises the Mediterranean Sea and beyond to destinations such as the Caribbean, she brings a wizardry of sailing satisfaction to her owner and crew. The Southern Wind superyacht is the product of many years of cultivated and refined expertise developed over time from her owner, builder, and designers that is rarely found in our current time.
