4 Hybrid Scrubber System Brief Definition of Alfa Laval Hybrid Scrubber System Alfa Laval Provides Hybrid scrubber system which has the flexibility to operate in both open and closed loop using seawater to remove sulphur contents from the exhaust. This provides a flexibility of operation in low alkaline waters, as well as the open sea. When at sea the switch can be made to open loop using only seawater. The sulphur oxides in the exhaust react with the sea water to form sulphuric acid. The sea water will neutralise the acid. When required to switch to closed loop at port fresh water is boosted using caustic soda (NaOH) as a buffer, passes through the water cleansing unit where the sludge is collected in a built in sludge tank and clean fresh water circulated with zero discharge.
