Quality Products at Competitive Prices Gas Check Automatic testing of the down-stream installation to check that all valves are closed and that pipework and fittings are gas tight before each system start-up. Protection from accidental or intentional misuse by students or users. Short testing time, with automatic start-up if no leakage was detected from previous operation. Easy installation and wiring due to combined gas valve block design and pre-wired system. Easy commissioning and trouble-shooting using logic diagram. Remote control by BMS, if required. Function according to AS5601 when Fire Suppressant System is installed.
GAS CHECK - with adjustable and/or non - adjustable BY-PASS VALVE GAS APPLIANCE PROTECTION SYSTEM No Battery Back Up The GasCheck gas shut off protection system is composed of high quality, approved gas components to ensure safe, reliable protection of a gas pipe-work system that does not have existing safety shut off equipment. For example, open stove burners in a kitchen, or gas bunsen burners in a laboratory. The GasCheck system can also guard against restoring gas if downstream pipe-work has been damaged. Typical uses are: Multistory Buildings Kitchens Boiler Rooms School Rooms Laboratories Available in all pipe sizes from 6mm to 150mm, the system is inexpensive and simple to use. REQUIREMENTS FOR OPERATION 1 240v / 110v / 24v DC or AC power, preferably on emergency services supply. 2 Gas of any type / any pressure. 3 An emergency stop button or interlock with sprinkler system. If used with a fire sprinkler system. A voltage free, normally closed contact of a water flow switch in the sprinkler line is required to activate and de-activate the GasCheck system. The GasCheck can be wired into other interlocking devices such as fire sprinkler systems, gas detection devices, fire and smoke detection devices and emergency stop devices, so that in an event of an emergency it can be shutdown remotely. To properly size the equipment, the following needs to be confirmed: A B C D Gas Type Gas Pressure Gas Flow Control Voltage TICK THE CORRECT VOLTAGE SYSTEM 1: Gascheck 240 volt system - 2: Gascheck 24 VDC system - Don t forget to tick the correct gascheck picture Page 3, 4 or 5
HOW IT WORKS GAS CHECK When an un-supervised burner can be extinguished by the operation of an emergency stop device, sprinkler system or manual valve, it is essential that the gas supply cannot be restored unless all of the gas burners are turned off first, and the associated pipe-work is checked for damage. The GasCheck system, when properly installed and commissioned, can guard against the accidental restoration of gas when gas burners are left on A main gas isolating solenoid valve is installed in the gas supply to the un-supervised appliances. When the gas supply needs to be isolated, the main gas solenoid valve is closed. Before the main gas solenoid valve is re-opened, the pressure in the downstream gas pipe-work is checked by a pressure switch. If the pressure in the downstream pipe-work is not at the correct level, then there is no guarantee that the pipe-work is pressure tight. The main gas valve will not open and an indicator illuminates to signal to the operator that the system needs to be checked and manually reset. To reset the system, the operator first checks the integrity of the burners and pipe-work, then presses and holds the reset button. The reset button opens a by-pass gas solenoid valve which only passes enough gas to fill the system if there are no leaks. If the pipe-work is not gas tight, the gas pipe-work will not fill and the pressure switch will not allow the main gas valve to operate. On restoration of the power to the GasCheck, if the pressure switch detects that the downstream pressure is acceptable (therefore there are no leaks), the main gas valve is opened and no manual reset is necessary. A lamp indicates that the system is operating. NOTE: It is essential that the GasCheck is set up correctly, according to the instructions which follow, and that the Safety Check is carried out. Failure to do this may cause a fire or explosion. Note: The following show various pictures of a standard main solenoid gas valve with pressure switch and by-pass gas valve fitted as a compact GasCheck unit. (voltage and size of valve is the only thing that can change). The gas valves and pressure switch should be installed in a plant room or suitably protected to prevent unauthorised access. Also this complete unit is not water proof and units should not be put into pits.

GasCheck 240 volt with Control Panel System plus 2 metres of wiring connected 80mm - 150mm VK main gas valve 240 volt - VA rating of 90 VA Flow adjuster on top of valve 15mm Brahma by-pass gas valve 240 volt Gas Pressure Switch Set at half the main gas pressure eg: 70mbar therefore the pressure switch will be set at 35 mbar When commissioning the Gascheck you might need two people, one at the Gascheck panel and one at the assimilated gas leak to oversee from a safety point of view. Press and hold the Red fault Reset button in at the Gascheck control panel. The gas pressure should slowly rise on the outlet side of the gas valve. The manometer you have connected to the outlet side of the pressure switch test point should show an increase within 5 to 15 seconds. Note: The main gas valve green light should come on, and at the same time red reset button light should go off, this meaning that the Gascheck system is in operation No more adjustment required. If there is no rise in pressure at all after 30 seconds, adjust the by-pass valve to the positive position slightly while holding the reset button in. The gas pressure should start to rise. The gas pressure must rise slowly. If the pressure reaches the same as the inlet gas pressure within 2 to 3 seconds, this means that the by-pass valve is set too high. If this is so, adjust the by-pass valve slightly to the negative position and repeat the above procedure again. Don t forget to carry out your Safety Check Test and also place the Plasticed Re- Set Procedure Sheet near the GasCheck Panel
TO SET- UP the GASCHECK SYSTEM 1 Set the gas pressure switch between 50% to 75% of the gas inlet pressure. A 50% pressure switch setting will allow the system to fill (when resetting) faster, but will be less sensitive to small burners or small leaks in pipe-work. A 75% pressure switch setting will take longer to fill but will provide a higher level of safety. 2 Some bypass gas valves have a flow adjuster, set this to almost minimum flow rate, equivalent to the smallest burner on the gas run.and some have a fixed orifice, no adjustment required. ESTABLISH WHICH UNIT YOU HAVE 3 Make sure power and gas are available. 4 Ensure that the gas pressure does not exceed the rated pressure of the installed equipment. 5 Make sure all downstream gas devices are off. 6 Turn the switch on at the GasCheck panel. Either the Red-system fault lamp or the Green main valve open lamp will be illuminated. If no lamps are on, check the power supply and interlocks and press the Lamp Test (green) button to be sure that the green lamp is operational. 7 If the red lamp is illuminated, press the Press to Reset button and hold it in until the red lamp shuts off and the green lamp illuminates, the main gas valve is now on and the system is now ready. Note: On some systems with long pipe-work, it may take a long time to fill the line with the bypass gas rate. Decrease the pressure switch setting to about 50% of the inlet pressure and/or increase the bypass flow adjuster on large systems). Take a note of the time taken for the green lamp to come on and advise the operator of the expected startup time. ( a gascheck reset system procedure sheet should have been placed near the panel, write the time taken in texture in space provided line C ). 8. SAFETY CHECK A. Fit a pressure gauge to the outlet test point of the main solenoid valve. Switch off the GasCheck at the switch. Pressure test the downstream gas line to make sure there are no leaks. B. Find the smallest un-supervised gas burner outlet in the system and light it or open it. *Make sure that adequate ventilation is provided in the area near the open gas cock* C. Turn the switch on at the GasCheck panel. The red Press to Reset lamp should be on. The main valve (green lamp) should not operate. If the red lamp is illuminated, press the Press to Reset button and hold it in. The main valve (green lamp) should not come on, you should not be able to run the system. D. If the main valve does operate, decrease the flow of gas through the bypass valve using the flow adjuster on the small gas valve or change the fixed orifice and/or increase the setting on the gas pressure switch and repeat steps A, B and C. If you cannot make the system fail at minimum bypass rate and maximum pressure switch setting, DO NOT USE UNIT. Please record gas pressures and the rating of the smallest burner and obtain a pressure switch and valve which are more suitable. Once the safety check is complete, also check that any remote interlocks will shut down the GasCheck and then repeat the safety check.
GASCHECK 9. Maximum Flow Check With gascheck running turn ALL appliances on downstream. If the GasCheck fails (green lamp goes off ), then the main valve is too small OR the gas pressure switch is set too close to the inlet pressure. Adjust the gas pressure switch down a little and repeat the test. If the fault continues, change the main valve to the next size. NOTE: Inlet gas pressure must NOT be changed unless first consulting the local gas authority. 10. Re-light any pilot burners in the system. Eg.. Hot Water Service. OPERATION Once fitted and commissioned by the installer, the Gas Check is operated or reset as set out below: 1. To start or reset the use of the appliance, press and hold the Fault / Reset button on the control unit until the main valve (green light) comes on. If there is a large amount of gas pipe-work that the GasCheck is supervising, this can take a long time. Please check with your installer. (an approx. time to hold reset button in position should have been nominated on the reset sheet left by the installer near the Panel, on the wall etc). 2. When the main valve light (green) is on the gas flow starts and the appliances can be used. 3. If the light (green) does not come on within a reasonable time, there is probably a gas burner left on, or damaged pipe-work. Check the gas appliances and pipework. 4. When a sprinkler system activates, a fault occurs or the power is switched off, the main valve (green light) goes off and the gas shuts off. To re-start, press the fault / reset button again, (red button). If the downstream pipe-work is pressure tight, there is no need to reset the system manually. The GasCheck checks the integrity of the pipe-work. If it is safe, the GasCheck automatically opens the main gas valve. Here is a picture of the standard key operated GASCHECK panel that is sold with the gas valves and pressure switch assembly. Is delivered with the 009 key and wiring diagram inside the panel. Is manufactured in 240 volt and/or 24 volt DC.
INSTALLATION GASCHECK The GasCheck unit must be installed and commissioned by a licensed plumber and connected to the power supply by a licensed electrician. Make sure that the gas supply pressure and voltage are acceptable for the components before installation. When used on multistory buildings etc, it is advisable to have an emergency backup power supply connected to minimise the possibility of loss of gas during power failures. Because of the large range of valves and pressure switches available, it is essential that the installation details be purchased with the specific system being installed. The gas valve and pressure switch should be installed in a plant room or suitably protected to prevent un-authorized access, and remember all these components are not weather proof, and if put into pits the Warranty will be void. 12 TO RESET THE SYSTEM - Has No Battery Back - Up GASCHECK SYSTEM RESET NOTICE SHEET TO BE PUT NEAR PANEL The GasCheck system is designed to shut off the gas supply in the prescribed area in the event of a fire, and will not allow the restoration of gas unless all appliances under its control are switched off. Also, the GasCheck will not allow the flow of gas if the pipe-work is ruptured, or if there is low gas pressure. The GasCheck is operational if the GREEN Main Valve Open lamp is on. If the RED System Fault lamp is on, and there is no existing fire alarm sounding, proceed to reset as outlined below: A. Locate and reset any interlocks (emergency stop buttons etc). Locate the GasCheck control panel and make sure the System Fault lamp is on (if this is the case the System is correct). B. Make sure all appliances protected by GasCheck are switched off. C. Press the reset button on the GasCheck panel and hold in for seconds. (a guide to how long the reset button must be held in before Green lamp operates, But No Longer than 10 minutes) D. When the Green Main Valve Open lamp comes on, the GasCheck is reset. E. If the system does not reset check that all gas appliances are off and try again. F. If the system still does not reset, call your installer. Do not bypass any devices or jam the reset button in, this can cause a fire or an explosion.
