5 Training and Certification Overview The PADI instructor Development Course () is the heart of the instructor training process. During the, you will apply your diving skills and knowledge to learn to teach the PADI system in the Classroom, Confined Water (Pool) and in Open Water. Daniel Martin, a PADI Course Director for the past 13 years, is a highly experienced Instructor Trainer who has met strict educational proficiency requirements and conducts all s. Daniel Is the only South African Platinum CD to have registered over 300 instructor certifications in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and to have been awarded platinum status annually since its inception. The PADI Instructor Development Course () consists of 2 training phases The Assistant Instructor (AI) Program and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program. The is then followed by a two day Instructor Examination (IE), conducted by PADI Worldwide. This all comes together with the PADI Specialty instructor training. Completion of the training phase may be met by taking either an Instructor Development Course (AI) plus (OWSI), or by completing the programs individually as it suits you. However, it is highly recommended that you complete the IE as soon as viable after the OWSI program. THE PADI INSTRUCTOR EXAMINATION (IE) IS THE EVALUATION PHASE OF THE PADI AND ARE RUN BY PADI OFFICE STAFF. CANDIDATES WHO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AN, ENROL IN A PADI IE (INDEPENDENT EXAM).

6 Prerequisites To enroll in an, an individual must: Be at least 18 years of age. Be a current Divemaster member in good standing with PADI or another recreational diver training organization for at least 6 months. Submit medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant. The doctors letter must state fit to Dive Have been a certified diver (OPW) for at least 6 months and have completed and logged at least 60 dives. (As documented in your own logbook.) Note. To attend an Instructor Examination (IE), the instructor candidate must have been a certified diver (openwater or equivalent) for at least 6 months and have logged at least 100 logged dives. Submit proof of Instructor CPR and 1st Aid training within the past 24 months. Preferably the PADI EFRI course. Divers from other Scuba Training Organizations are required: Submit documentation of any equivalent certifications for entry level advanced and rescue certifications issued by another recreational diver training organization. If submitting an equivalent rescue diver certification, also include copies of first aid training documentation. Sharklife Training Aims: Increase basic public knowledge and understanding of the shark species Address radical misconceptions people have of sharks Develop a sense of compassion and desire to conserve sharks Choose from 8 shark courses which are designed to introduce divers to a range of shark species and help the student diver develop an understanding of the species biology and behaviour. 18 Swim Instructor Program The PADI Swim Instructor program is a joint venture with PADI International and one of the world's largest swim and lifeguard training agencies, Starfish Aquatics Institute (SAI). Looking forward to creating your world of swim training. SAI (Starfish aquatics.org) One of the world s largest swim training agencies. SAI uses an integrated, experiential approach to learning, with Performance based, benchmarked structures. PADI, is the world leader in scuba and underwater training with both ISO, and CEN approved standards. PADI is a world leader in training programs. Both SAI and Padi (padi.com) have very stringent Quality assurance programs. The training is unparallel, and there is no other training that comes even close in South Africa. 19 Training and Certification Overview The PADI/SAI swim instructor training course covers all levels of training: YOU WILL BE RATED TO TRAIN ALL LEVELS. It is highly beneficial to you as an instructor to be aware of the course structure and standards. Once you are a Qualified Padi Swim Instructor and you want to start training, there is a full list of materials that you can purchase from SAI. Each program is broken into 5 colour levels. Each level contains both swim and safety skills that work toward the achievement of a swim and safety benchmark. The system allows instructors to easily grade the client until they master the benchmarks. Once the benchmarks are met, the client then moves to the next level. It is a performance based system, allowing flexibility to the client and the trainer. You could attend one or all the courses in a PADI Swim Instructor Development Course (). Although you are not required to have all the materials, I feel that it is important to train with all the materials, so that you can identify and affiliate with the individual courses and levels. You also will need the materials once you start instructing. The standards and structure of the course are discussed in detail on the course. On completion of your program, you stay in contact with your Program Director. Once you have completed the PADI Swim Instructor course, you are registered with SAI as a PADI Swim Instructor. You will then need to train, and stay in date in accordance with their quality assurance through your instructor trainer (program director). We will assist you in acquiring the in water hours that you need to be comfortable to train.
