1 DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY COMMANDER TRAINING AIR WING ONE 101 FULLER ROAD UITE 250 MERIDIAN, M COMMANDER, TRAINING AIR WING ONE INTRUCTION From: Commander, Training Air Wing ONE COMTRAWINGONEINT X ubj: TRAINING AIR WING ONE GARMIN FENIX WATCH PROGRAM Ref: (a) CNATRA memo dtd 18 Dec 17 Encl: (1) Fenix T-45 User Instructions (2) quadron Custody Transfer Form (3) Fenix Aircrew Checklist 1. Purpose. To establish Training Air Wing ONE (TW-1) policy and assign responsibilities in accordance with reference (a) for implementation of Fenix watches in order to assist aircrew with cockpit pressurization monitoring and enhance aircrew s ability to detect pressurization excursions. 2. Background. As airframes continue to age, cabin pressurization scheduling irregularities and abnormal pressure excursions may become more frequent and can have negative physiological consequences to aircrew physiological performance and their corresponding ability to take corrective action. Cabin pressure changes can be difficult to detect, especially during dynamic flight, and the analog pressure gauge is difficult to see and lacks fidelity. To assist in detecting subtle pressurization excursions, Commander Naval Air Forces provided Fenix 3HR watches, hereafter referred to as Government Provided Personal Wearable Fitness Devices (GPPWFD), to Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) Training Air Wings (TRAWINGs). 3. Policy. The GPPWFDs shall be implemented with the following guidelines. a. GPPWFDs are required for all Basic Fighter Maneuver (BFM) and ection Engaged Maneuvering (EM) events with a minimum of one device per aircraft. Use during Out of Control Flights (OCF) is optional. b. Any necessary software or firmware updates will be conducted by the individual issued the GPPWFD or the quadron GPPWFD Custodian. c. GPPWFDs are prohibited from connecting to any government information system. d. GPPWFDs are issued to individual Instructor Pilots and tudents in the Advanced trike syllabus.
2 4. Responsibilities. The following areas of responsibility are assigned: a. quadron Commanding Officers (COs) shall: COMTRAWINGONEINT (1) Ensure GPPWFDs are utilized in accordance with this instruction. Issuing of the GPPWFD is at the discretion of the squadron CO and shall be detailed in a squadron note or instruction. (2) Designate the NATOP Officer as the quadron GPPWFD Custodian to maintain custody, issue GPPWFDs, and assist the GPPWFD Program Manager (PM). b. Training Wing Aeromedical afety Officer (AMO) shall: (1) Be designated as the GPPWFD PM and maintain a consolidated GPPWFD accountability and inventory report, which shall be submitted annually at the beginning of each Fiscal Year to the CNATRA AMO. Pilots. (2) Conduct an initial issue of GPPWFDs to quadron Custodians and TW-1 Instructor (3) Collect and properly dispose of any non-functioning GPPWFDs. (4) Provide alcohol swabs to each squadron, which can be procured from HAZMAT in Building 99. Contact phone number for HAZMAT is c. Flight urgeons (Fs) shall collect the GPPWFD from the aircrew during the medical evaluation, save, and download the recorded data using the Connect mobile App. If the F does not have access to the Connect mobile App the AMO shall download the data. Instructions on how to download data from the GPPWFD to the Connect mobile App are located in the F/AMO Instructions section of enclosure (1). d. quadron GPPWFD Custodian shall: (1) The squadron NATOP Officer shall be designated by the quadron CO as the squadron GPPWFD Custodian and is required to take custody of and issue GPPWFDs to Instructor Pilots (IPs), Instructors Under Training (IUTs), and Advanced trike tudent Naval Aviators (NAs). IPs and NAs shall not receive their NATOP jackets until they return the issued GPPWFD prior to checking out of the squadron. (2) Provide a signed custody transfer form, enclosure (2), to the GPPWFD PM when transferring Custodian responsibilities. (3) Provide a quarterly inventory to the GPPWFD PM to include serial number, name of individual issued a GPPWFD, and operational status of each GPPWFD. (4) Clean the GPPWFD with provided alcohol swabs prior to reissuing. 2

4 Cockpit Altitude (1000 ) COMTRAWINGONEINT GARMIN FENIX T-45 UER INTRUCTION The GARMIN FENIX watch is intended to provide aircrew with tactile cockpit pressurization alerts during BFM and OCF flight profiles. The T-45 has an increased probability of depressurizing during these profiles due to the inherent high-aoa maneuvers, potentially resulting in aircrew Decompression ickness (DC). After programing, the watch will provide cockpit altitude alerts as indicated in the chart below: major alerts at 14,500 or 16,000 cockpit altitude, coincident with the pressurization schedule for BFM or OCF ceilings, and a minor alert at 7,500 cockpit altitude, coincident with 10,000 checks. Tactile vibration above 10,000 aircraft altitude should alert aircrew to the possibility of a depressurization, with appropriate Emergency Procedures followed if confirmed. This enclosure contains: AIRCREW INTRUCTION for the aircrew to follow upon watch issue to activate the watch. CALIBRATION INTRUCTION for the issuing/programing parties to follow upon watch initial receipt or upon watch becoming uncalibrated. PROGRAMING INTRUCTION for the programing party to follow upon watch initial receipt. There are slight differences from the provided instructions when programming the FENIX 5X. F/AMO INTRUCTION to assist medical personnel in the case of a significant depressurization. Aircraft Altitude (1000 ) Enclosure (1)
