4 Running and Walking in Kitzbühel. Control system and Classification. The surroundings of the Schwarzsee lake and the unique rolling hills of the Bichlach area combine to form an excellent focal point, as does the magnificent area alongside the Kitzbühel Ache river. South of Kitzbühel we have another focal point in the form of the newly designed Jochberg running region. Mountain running trails on the famous Hahnenkamm ski area and those on the Kitzbüheler Horn complete the range of quality trails. From complete beginners, through to seasoned ambitious athletes, anyone who is keen on exercise will certainly get real value for their money. There is a special guide system for runners and Nordic Walkers to monitor their speed and heart rate enabling everyone to find their ideal route without unnecessary hassle. Routes for running, mountain running and Nordic Walking are provided using the Laufland Tirol guide system. This self developed 2-board system consists of direction and distance boards, providing directional information, route length, difficulty of the route and the exact distance in kilometres that the run has covered in the sections up to that point. This enables each runner, or Nordic Walker, to check that they are keeping within their own individual speed and heart rate limits as determined in medical check-ups. Black arrow + icons = difficult The black classified routes are challenging, undulating routes that are designed to be suitable for performance orientated runners and Nordic Walkers with an established training programme in place. After 7 km you arrive at the Alpenhaus restaurant, the finish are for many of the legendary races. However for those who haven t had enough and have the energy and stamina for more, it is possible to ride or to run even further up to the Horngipfel summit at an altitude of m! Although the 7.5 km route with altitude difference of 920 vertical metres means that the route to the Alpenhaus is statistically below those of the famous mountains encountered in the Tour de France, it is far steeper and tougher than any of them. The route follows the Ache out of the valley and runs up past the swimming pool before reaching the Oberhausen trail. The trail then leads on to the Wurz-Niederalm where it meets with a forest trail that runs parallel to the Jagawurz run and on to the Schering farm.
