INSTRUCTIONS ESK 2.0 & ECL 2.0 CAUTION READ INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING Before operating this equipment please read these instructions completely. ENG-V
FOR SKIING ONLY! Thank you for buying this Alpina product. Our equipment has been designed to serve you and should give you many years of service under normal use. This boot was designed to be the ultimate XC racing ski boot. All characteristics of the boot were designed for skiing performance. We use carbon parts and have shaped them in such a way that we created a perfect balance between performance and fit. Carbon stiffens the boot where needed and is externally lightweight but needs special care particularly when not skiing. Consequently, the user needs to know what to avoid when NOT skiing! Please read these instructions carefully and completely. The manufacturer cannot be held accountable for the damage caused by improper use.
DO NOT OVER FLEX THE BOOT BY HAND! The boots flex perfectly when skiing! Never flex the boots by hand! And never allow this to be done by somebody else! Extreme bending or over flexing the shoe outsole (as shown in the figure), without the foot in the shoe, can result in carbon structure delamination, breakage and fractures. Always put on the shoes to get a feel for the flex!
WHEN NOT ON THE SKI-TRACKS ALWAYS USE OVERSHOES! The boots flex perfectly when skiing! The boots are not walking shoes! Use overshoes when walking! Please note: the use of overshoes when outside the ski track is obligatory!
DO NOT KNOCK THE BOOTS TOGETHER! Carefully clean snow manually by hand or with a ski pole! Before clicking into the ski binding, clean the carbon sole manually and with care! Before clicking into the ski bindings and skis clean the snow and dirt from the sole cleats manually by hand or with a ski pole and not by tapping or knocking against any hard and sharp ground or object or against the shoe heel and/ or against the carbon chassis of the opposite shoe.
TRANSPORT THE SHOES WITH CARE! 5 kg 5 kg 5 kg Pack the shoes suitable to transport! Incorrect transportation can damage the shoes! During transport always make sure not to place heavy bags or any other heavy loads on the top of the shoes. This can lead to breakage of the carbon cuff or even breakage of the carbon outsole.
ADVICE FOR USE AND CARE Alpina products are built using the finest materials available however it is recommended you follow these care instructions for the life of the product. - Treat your boots with care (like you treat your skis). - Remove all dirt and mud from the shoes using a soft and moist cloth or brush and clean water. Do not use chemical cleaning agents. The shoes should never be cleaned in a washing machine. - To extend the life of the textile and fabric the shoes should be cleaned on a regular basis following the same care instructions mentioned above. - The lining should be cleaned periodically in order to prevent odor build up and to extend the life of the product. - The cushioned insoles should be kept clean and free of dirt and mud to prevent bacteria build up and premature ageing. - High abrasion areas may change in appearance over the life of the product however it will not affect the shoe s performance or properties. - Shoes should be dried at room temperature without the aid of an external heat source including the sun. To dry the shoes please follow these instructions: o Stuff the inner shoe with the old newsprint completely, slightly reshape wet shoe from the outside by hand and tie the laces lightly. o Place shoes safe distance from mild source of warmth but the boots must never be in contact with any heat source! The shoe tip can be easily reshaped causing irreversible damage. If the shoe tip is pressed down by any kind of hard object the shoes can easily be broken. o After one hour remove wet newsprint and repeat the procedure until shoes are completely dry.
IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING Outside ski-track do not walk or run while wearing the XC boots to protect the outsole from harm and damage! To protect the carbon sole and other carbon parts use of overshoes outside the ski track is obligatory! Always use carbon shoes together with the overshoes, except while you are skiing and attached to the skis! DO NOT OVER FLEX THE CARBON OUTSOLE BY HAND! Never flex the boot by hand! And never allow this to be done by somebody else! The boots flex perfectly when skiing! DO NOT KNOCK CARBON BOOTS TOGETHER! Before clicking into the ski binding, clean the carbon sole manually with care! Use a ski pole to gently clean the sole cleats if needed. TRANSPORT THE SHOES WITH CARE! Incorrect transportation will damage the shoes!
ALPINA XC CULTURE The advent of shoes with carbon components has also revealed a great need to change the habits of the end user to manipulate such a high-tech product. These simple guidelines will help to raise XC culture in general Choosing correct size One must pay close attention when choosing boot size. If your boots are too small (even just slightly) there will be too much pressure in the heel area; consequently heel bone spurs begin to grow and cause more and more problems. This is especially important in classic ski boots. The extreme flex experienced during the stride is alternately getting shorter and longer in length, while ones foot size inside the shoe remains the same in length. Our top models are produced in whole size and half-size as well to offer all athletes the best fit possible. Fastening shoes by tying the laces To feel the boot forefoot volume and to achieve perfect forefoot fit first unlace the boot maximally to the shoe tip before putting the shoe on for the first time, than step in and tie the shoe tight but with feeling step by step from the shoe tip to the high instep. Altering and adjusting shoe volume Even sock type can influence the feeling of the shoe s volume, Always use the same sock type for boot volume testing and racing. Boot volume can easily be adjusted with the VCP (Volume Control Plate). A special product Alpina is offering to adjust shoe volume both in the forefoot and heel zone or in forefoot zone only by cutting the VCP accordingly; this can change the feeling of the shoe s volume completely Reducing boot volume with VCP (Volume Control Plate) insert Use thicker socks. Or use VCP insert to make the boot volume tighter. Trim the VCP with scissors by following the VCP size print markings. Pull the foot-bed out of the shoe first, insert the VCP then re-insert the foot-bed. This will affect both the forefoot and heel zone boot volume.
If you feel the heel is too high cut the VCP by shortening it 1/3 from the heel area. If needed cut the VCP additionally up to 1/2 its original length. This will affect the metatarsal forefoot zone volume only. Increasing boot volume To increase volume use thinner socks. This can influence boot volume significantly. Or use special equipment to stretch and expand boot metatarsal forefoot area. Please note this should be performed by qualified experts only Custom orthopaedic foot-beds vs. boot volume & heel fit Both heel and metatarsal foot-bed thickness must match original footbed heel and metatarsal thickness. If the custom insoles or orthotics are too thick in the heel area, heel pocket fit and grip will be lossed completely. The heel position is too high in relation to the boot s heel pocket position resulting in poor fit and performance. If the custom insoles or orthotics are too thick in the metatarsal area, general shoe fit and shoe volume loss completely and makes the boot useless Warming up & cooling down procedure Tie the boots loosely, not too tight. Use overboots as protection against water, rain, snow and cold weather. Racing Remove overboot. Tie boots before the start tightly, precisely and with feeling
