3 AED Trainer User s Gide Safety Before sing the Trainer, be aware of the following:! WARNING! Patient injry or death. The AED Trainer is not a resce device and cannot deliver defibrillation shock therapy. The AED Trainer is for training or demonstration only. To avoid confsion, do not store the AED Trainer or AED Training Pads in the same area with other AED eqipment. To avoid confsion when referring to the AED Trainer and other devices in this manal, the following terms are sed: Resce any device or accessory intended to deliver a therapetic shock incldes the word resce (for example, the Powerheart 9300A is a resce AED) Training any device or accessory sed to demonstrate AED fnctionality incldes the words training or trainer (for example, AED Training Pads cannot deliver a therapetic shock) Spported models This Trainer approximates the fnction of the following Cardiac Science Corporation AED models: Powerheart 9300A (G3 Atomatic) Powerheart 9300E (G3 Semi-Atomatic) Additionally, the Trainer spports branded and other models that have the same fnctionality as the listed models. 2
4 Intended se Intended se The AED Trainer and this manal are intended for se by qalified instrctors with the following competencies and experience: American Heart Association or Eropean Resscitation Concil (or their eqivalents) cardio-plmonary resscitation (CPR) certification and first responder defibrillation training A thorogh nderstanding of operation and se of spported resce AED models and accessories For detailed operation instrctions for a specific resce AED model, refer to the Operation and Service manal for that model. Learning objectives After training, stdents shold have the minimm competencies: Sccessflly simlate a patient resce sing the AED Trainer Understand differences between the AED Trainer and resce AEDs Understand the operation of resce AEDs AED Trainer overview The AED Trainer is a simlated AED for teaching basic resce skills and correct defibrillation procedre to first responders who se Cardiac Science AEDs. The AED Trainer can: Simlate each resce stage Change resce scenarios Create simlated cardiac resce scenarios, both shockable and nonshockable Instrctors operate the AED Trainer by remote control. 3
5 AED Trainer User s Gide AED Trainer parts The AED Trainer has the same general external featres as a resce AED. Note: The AED Trainer ses special training pads sed only to demonstrate proper pad placement. Training pads cannot deliver a shock or provide feedback. Figre 1: AED Trainer and remote The AED Trainer may be configred for semi-atomatic or atomatic operation. Refer to the appropriate resce AED Operator and Service manal for detailed descriptions of parts of a resce AED. 4
6 AED Trainer overview AED Trainer remote fnctions The remote control has the following fnctions: Table 1: AED Trainer Remote Bttons Btton 1, Shock Cancelled Scenario 1 Langage Confirmation 2, Shock Advised Scenario 2 3, Check Pads Scenario 3 4, Place Pads Scenario 4 Use Press while charging to prompt, Rhythm changed. Shock cancelled. Press dring Place Pads prompts to forward to the Analysis prompts. The next seqence (Shock or CPR) is determined by the selected scenario. Press dring a CPR seqence to forward to the Analysis prompts, followed by another CPR seqence. Press # then 1 to start Scenario 1. Press to confirm langage selection (see Langage setp on page 7). Press dring Place Pads prompts to forward to the Analysis prompts. The next seqence (Shock or CPR) is determined by the selected scenario. Press dring a CPR seqence to forward to the Analysis prompts followed by a Shock seqence. Press # then 2 to start scenario 2. Press dring analysis to prompt, Check Pads. Press again to contine the scenario. Press # then 3 to start Scenario 3. After the prompt, Tear open package and remove pads, press to prompt: Peel one pad from plastic liner Place one pad on bare pper chest Peel second pad and place on bare lower chest as shown Note: Use if necessary to advance throgh the prompts more qickly. Press again to indicate pad placement. Press # then 4 to start Scenario 4. 5
7 AED Trainer User s Gide Table 1: AED Trainer Remote Bttons (contined) Btton 5, Analysis Interrpted Scenario 5 6, Low Battery 7, Service Reqired Decrease Volme 8, Pase Increase Volme 9, Change Scenario Change Volme Use Press dring Analysis prompts to prompt, Analysis interrpted. Stop patient motion. Press again to contine. Press # then 5 to start Scenario 5. Press dring a resce scenario to prompt, Battery low (the battery LEDs will also show low battery). Press again to trn off the low battery LED and trn on two green battery LEDs (50% battery level). Press to prompt, Service Reqired. Press again to contine. Press # then 7 to decrease speaker volme. Press at any time to Pase (the AED Trainer beeps while pased). Press again to contine. Press # then 8 to increase speaker volme. Press # then 1, 2, 3, 4,or 5 to change the shock scenario. Press # then 7 or 8 to decrease or increase the speaker volme. 6
8 Langage setp Langage setp To change the voice prompt langage: 1. Open the Trainer lid and immediately press and hold the Shock btton for 5 seconds. The Shock btton stays lit and the crrent langage is displayed on the screen. 2. Press and hold the Shock btton to advance throgh the available langages. 3. When the desired langage is displayed, release the Shock btton and press the 1 btton on the remote to confirm the selection. The Trainer will reboot and operate in the selected langage. Modes and mode selection The Trainer has eight modes to simlate the following types of resce AEDs: Mode 1: Powerheart Semi-Atomatic with Traditional CPR Prompts and CPR Metronome Mode 2: Powerheart Semi-Atomatic with Traditional CPR Prompts and withot CPR Metronome Mode 3: Powerheart Atomatic with Traditional CPR Prompts and CPR Metronome Mode 4: Powerheart Atomatic with Traditional CPR Prompts and withot CPR Metronome Mode 5: Powerheart Semi-Atomatic with Compressions-Only CPR Prompts and CPR Metronome Mode 6: Powerheart Semi-Atomatic with Compressions-Only CPR Prompts and withot CPR Metronome Mode 7: Powerheart Atomatic with Compressions-Only CPR Prompts and CPR Metronome Mode 8: Powerheart Atomatic with Compressions-Only CPR Prompts and withot CPR Metronome 7
9 AED Trainer User s Gide To set the mode: 1. Select the langage (see Langage setp on page 7) and then press the 1 btton. The Operation Mode nmber flashes. 2. Press and hold the Shock btton to advance throgh the available modes. 3. When the desired mode is displayed, release the Shock btton and press the 1 btton on the remote to confirm the selection. The Trainer reboots and begins the voice instrctions. 8
10 Resce scenarios Resce scenarios This section describes a typical resce scenario and then lists the for pre-set resce scenarios. To change scenarios, refer to the btton fnctions in the AED Trainer remote fnctions section. Note: Unlike a resce AED, the AED Trainer does not store resce information. Typical resce scenario The following steps demonstrate a typical resce scenario. Once the AED Trainer is set and the lid is opened, the AED Trainer advances throgh the complete scenario. The instrctor may speed p the scenario if reqired. 1. Open the lid of the AED Trainer. The AED Trainer prompts, Tear open package and remove pads. 2. Press 4 on the remote to contine the Pads prompts: Peel one pad from plastic liner. Place one pad on bare pper chest. Peel second pad and place on bare lower chest as shown. 3. Press 4 again to indicate pad placement. 4. The AED Trainer advances to the analysis stage of the resce seqence and prompts, Do not toch patient. Analyzing rhythm. 5. If a shockable rhythm is selected, the AED Trainer prompts, Shock Advised. Charging. The next steps depend on the simlation sed. For a semi-atomatic simlation: a. The AED Trainer prompts Stand clear. Psh flashing btton to deliver shock. b. The stdent presses the Shock btton to deliver the first simlated defibrillation. If the Shock btton is not pressed after 30 seconds, the AED Trainer enters CPR mode. 9
11 AED Trainer User s Gide For an atomatic simlation: a. The AED Trainer prompts Stand clear. Shock will be delivered in Shock delivered. b. The AED Trainer enters CPR mode. If the scenario defines a non-shockable rhythm, the AED Trainer prompts, Start CPR. Give 30 compressions then give 2 breaths. 10
12 Resce scenarios Recommended resce scenarios The following table lists the five resce scenarios recommended by the AHA. Note: If simlating an atomatic AED, instead of prompting for shock, the AED Trainer conts down and then atomatically delivers a shock. 13 AED Trainer User s Gide Maintenance The AED Trainer has no ser serviceable parts. The only maintenance reqired is to: Clean external srfaces with a damp cloth Replace batteries in the AED Trainer or Remote as needed. The AED Trainer reqires two D-cell alkaline batteries The remote control reqires two AAA alkaline batteries When replacing batteries, ensre that the polarity is correct. For any other maintenance or repair problem, call Cardiac Science Technical Spport or International Operations otside the United States (seecontact Information on page 1-14). 12
