2 General Information And Policies Note: The information in this packet is subject to change based on coach s requirements. Please see the swim or dive team coaches with specific questions. Updated information will be made available via Five Seasons website under aquatics/swim team. You may obtain information concerning this year s season via either or by accessing Five Seasons website. Initial information of importance will be found on the Five Season s website. Any changes, additional information or special events will be sent to you via ; please make a habit of checking your for these updates. Make sure to enter your address when signing up. If you don t have an address, it is your responsibility to find out these updates via the website at or the coach. The swim/dive team is open to kids ages A child who will turn 5 in the summer is eligible. The swim team is a great opportunity for kids who know the fundamental strokes to get further training. It is not intended to be a teaching class for those kids who don t know how to swim. For the beginner swimmer, participation on the swim team should be done in conjunction with private lessons that are available at the club. Your swimmer/diver must achieve the minimum age of his or her age group by June 1. This means that whatever age your child is as of June 1, that is the age group in which he or she will swim/dive. For example, if your child s birthday is June 1 and he or she turns 7, he or she will swim/dive in the 7/8 age group. If your child s birthday is June 2 and he or she turns 7, he or she can swim/dive in the 6 and under group. There will be a waiver form that must be signed by a parent of each swimmer/diver before they can participate this season. This form may be downloaded from the website. Swimmers/divers can t participate without this waiver form. Vacation and meet sign outs will be handled via this year. Coaches work hard to put together the line up for each meet. It is extremely important to let the coach know if you will miss a meet for any reason. Parents must notify the coach via 1 WEEK prior to the scheduled meet. Once notified the coach will send a confirmation . Failure to the coach at least 1 WEEK prior to the scheduled meet, will result in the parent being charged a scratch fee. ($3 per event for each swimmer). Illness or injury are the only exceptions to this policy. Notification of illness or injury must be made as soon as possible, and must be received prior to the start of the meet. You must let your diver/swimmer s coach know if your child is going to participate in the championship no later than June 24, One member of each swim team family will be required to work 4 meets and one session of the Championship Meet. (This number may change based on the number of families that sign up.) For each meet missed, that family will be automatically billed $ Volunteer credits are not transferable. 3 Similar to last season, parents are to bring their own permanent markers and they are responsible for writing their swimmer s events on their hand. The coaches will try to have these available at the morning practice the day of the meet. The assigned lanes will not be available, but the events for your swimmers will be listed. Also, parents are to write their swimmer s name on the swimmer s upper arm or back to help the bullpen volunteers quickly identify your swimmer. Suburban Swim Association Five Seasons is a member of the Suburban Swim Association (SSA). Any questions pertaining to SSA rules and regulations should be forwarded to the Five Season s SSA representative. Swim Team Michelle Zararieff ; michelleannz@msn.com Dive Team Shirley Train ; shirleytrain@gmail.com Coaches Bios Swim Team Coaches Brittany Podczerwinski (815) ; brittanypods@hotmail.com Coach Brittany is from Chicago where she swam varsity on her high school team for 4 years and currently swims for the Wright State Raiders. She has experience coaching summer swim teams including head coach at LifeTime Fitness-Algonquin and instructor and competitive swimmer at Alligator Aquatics in Chicago. Her swim program philosophy focuses around a positive mental attitude and sportsmanship. Her goal is to have her swimmers fall in love with the sport as much as she has and learn how to be a positive role model for kids their own ages along the way. Lolly Buenaventura (937) ; lolly.buenaventura@mvschool.com Lolly is a recent graduate of The Miami Valley School and will be attending Washington University in St. Louis in the fall majoring in Economics. She spent six years swimming competitively with the Beavercreek YMCA winter league team, and has swum with the Five Season Gators for 10 summers! Lolly also was a varsity letterman on her high school swim team all four years. She has a strongpassion for swimming and enjoys sharing this love with others every day! Lolly is very excited about this summer and believes that this is going to be the best summer that Five Seasons has ever seen! Gabriel (Gabby) Zararieff gabbygator11@msn.com Dive Coaches JR Geraci springboardman@yahoo.com; JR was Dive Coach for Wright State University and again from 2011 to JR is a 2003 inductee into the WSU Swimming and Diving 3/16/16 rev. 1 Page 2

4 Wall of Fame, JR earned four All-American honors during his career and still holds the three-meter, 11 dive school records. Katie Polk Katie has been diving for over 8 years for her Club Team, the WTRC Dive Team. She competes at the highest level for her age group and is a registered USA and AAU Diver. She has competed at USA Junior Nationals, Regionals, Zones and AAU Nationals. She competes on 1M, 3M and platform diving. She is the SouthWest District record holder is also the record holder for Centerville High School. She is the 6 time consecutive SSA Dive meet Champion for her age group. In 2013 she was named an All American. In 2015 she won the Ohio State High School Dive Championship and has received a scholarship to University of Massachusetts to dive. Swim And Dive Team Fees The fees are similar to last years, $ for the first child in the family; $ for each additional child in the same family Add $55.00 if child is also joining both the swim/dive teams Swim Team fees cover the following costs: o The coaches salaries o Ribbons o Trophies o Pool equipment need for the team, i.e., record board, stopwatches, etc. o Championship Meet Fees o SSA league fee Dive Team fees cover the following costs: o Coaches salaries o Ribbons o Trophies o SSA championship fees Costs not covered: o Swimsuits, caps, t-shirt, towels, sweatshirts o Team pictures o Post-meet celebration food o Awards banquet Swim Team Website There is a shutterfly website for the Five Seasons Gators if you are a new family or have changes to your information (adding/dropping a swimmer, changes to contact info) please let me know so that i can update the site. 3/16/16 rev. 1 Page 3

Swim Team Parent Volunteers Parent participation plays a major role in making our swim season a success. This season we have a total of 7 meets -- 3 home and 4 away -- plus two sessions of the Championship Meet. The 6 and under and 10 and under championships will be held at Five Seasons this season. For most away meets, we need a minimum of 19 volunteers. (based on a 6 lane pool) Volunteers include: 2 stroke and turn judges (must be certified) 2 6 & under parents 2 8 & under parents 1 10& under parent 2 relay parents 1 ready area parent 9 timers For home meets, we need a minimum of 29 volunteers. (based on a 8 lane pool). Volunteers include: 1 starter 1 announcer 1 computer operator 2 stroke and turn judges (must be certified) 2 awards table / hospitality servers 2 6 & under parents 2 8 & under parents 1 10 & under parent 2 relay parents 1 ready area parent 1 runner 1 event turner 12 timers 3/16/16 rev. 1 Page 4

6 Volunteer job descriptions are as follows: Announcer: Has a great view of the entire meet and announces the event, heat number, and the swimmers' names and lane assignments for each race. Starter: Signals the start of each heat via starting pistol or other signal. Stroke and Turn Judge: Ensures swimmers perform proper form, turn, and finish. Awards Table / Hospitality Servers: Helps to average finish times, organizes ribbons, and offers refreshments to other volunteers. 6 & under parent: Organizes swimmers and helps them arrive at the blocks in the correct order. This job is limited to families whose only swimmer is a 6 and under. 8 & under and 10 & under parent: Helps supervise the children of other volunteers. Organize these swimmers and help them arrive at the blocks in the correct order. Relay Parent: Organizes relay swimmers for the first and last relay. Ready Area Parent: Uses the heat sheet to make sure all swimmers are in the correct heats and lanes. Runner: Collects the time sheets from the timers and gives them to the computer operator. Event Turner: Displays the current event, and heat. Timer: Has the best seat in the house. Uses stopwatch to time swimmers and record those times. This year, volunteers will sign up for meets through . All families must work 4 meets and one session of the Championship meet. Please the volunteer coordinator with your available dates and preferred volunteer position as soon as possible. Volunteers positions will be filled on a first come first served basis. As you can see, it takes quite a few people to help make the meets run smoothly. Thank you for all your help! Dive Team Parent Volunteers Parent volunteers are essential for a dive meet to run smoothly. There are seven meets, four away and three home. For home meets, only 8 parents are needed for the following jobs: 3 judges 4 table workers 1 announcer For away meets, 5 parents are needed: 2 judges 2-3 table workers Job descriptions: Judges: One who scores the divers, (gets the best seat in the house too!!) Attending the dive clinic is mandatory. Time and place to be announced. Table workers: Each person will do a different job. One will record the score, another person will do the math, and the third person will write on the ribbons. Announcer: One who will announce the name of the diver and the dive they are doing. 3/16/16 rev. 1 Page 5

7 Swim and Dive Meet Schedule Swim meets begin promptly at 6:15 pm, weather permitting. Swimmers need to check in with the Ready Area Parent as least 45 minutes prior to the start of the meet. Parents are responsible for getting their swimmers behind the blocks or to the bull pen in time for their events. Parents who are volunteering should ask the appropriate age group parent to help their swimmers make their events. Swimmers can swim a maximum of 2 individual events and 2 relays in the same age group in a meet. Swimmers must swim in 2 meets to qualify for the championship. SWIM MEETS: Tuesday, June 14: Five NCR Country Club Thursday, June 16: Brookview and Five Seasons Tuesday June 21: Five Seasons Thursday, June 23: Bye Tuesday, June 28: Five Seasons and Dayton Country Woodhaven Thursday, June 30: Black Five Seasons Thursday, July 7: Five Christopher Club Swim Championships: Monday, July 11: 11 & older, Dunsinane Tuesday, July 12: 10 & under, Woodhaven Swim Club Swim Team Practice Schedule All regular practices are held at the outside pool. In case of bad weather and lightning, policy dictates that we wait 20 minutes after the last flash of lightning seen or the last sound of thunder before entering the pool. We do not have indoor practices. If the weather during the morning and evening practice is questionable, please call the club to confirm cancellation of practice. Saturday Pre-season Stroke and turn Clinic: We will be holding 2 pre-season indoor swim practices on Saturday May 24 th and 31 st at 11:00 am for anyone interested in participating. June 6, Monday: Swim Team morning practices begin (Monday Friday) Practice times are 8:00 am 13 and over; 9:15 am; 9 to 12 and 10:15 am 8 and under. Dive Team Practice Schedule Regular morning practices will begin on June 6th, Monday through Friday. We ll be starting at 9:30am -10:30am for the 10 & under group and 10:30am-11:30am for the 11 & older group. 3/16/16 rev. 1 Page 6

8 Swim Suit Fitting/Purchases Five Seasons will be using SwimVille USA for the team swim suits. Order forms are available at the club or you may call SwimVille USA directly at Fittings will be on May 14 th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. We will be using a new suit this year since the one used previously are no longer available. Goggles and Gator swim caps may be purchased from the club. We have latex and silicone hats this year with the Gator logo. Team Picture Outdoor Pool - June 17 th Swim and Dive Team members should come in their team suits for the picture. Individual and team pictures will be taken. Please bring cash or check to purchase pictures at this time. Awards Picnic Friday, July 15th at 5:30pm Reservations must be made no later than July 7 th. Families who attend without a reservation are, of course, welcome, but it will be to your benefit to make the reservation. There will be an additional fee per person charge assessed for those without a reservation. The sign-up sheet will be on-line on the web-site. 3/16/16 rev. 1 Page 7
