7 5 What is Total Alkalinity? What is TA The total of all alkaline minerals in water Namely bicarbonates, carbonates, hydroxides The measure of waters ability to resist a change in ph Proper hot tub range: ppm Acts as a buffer or shock absorber for ph Balance initially at fresh fill Check monthly and adjust as needed Why Is It Important In hot tub water, a balanced total alkalinity does the following: o Allows easier maintenance of ph within the desired range o Helps protect surfaces from corrosion, staining and scale formation o Helps provide clearer water o Fewer problems / easier maintenance Why Does TA Change TA is depleted in the buffering of acids and maintenance of proper ph Product additions can have an effect on TA o Bromine Tabs lower TA o Balance ph- lowers TA o Balance ph+ raises TA Aeration lowers TA Fill water can raise or lower TA Problems Associated with TA When low acidic o ph bounces uncontrollably o Corrodes surfaces o Possible staining When high scale forming o High acid demand o High ph o Scale forms more readily o Cloudy water (calcium)

8 6 Balance TA+ Why Raises Total Alkalinity (TA) of hot tub water Use when TA is less than 125 ppm to return to effective range of ppm Low TA causes; o ph bounce difficult to balance o Increased corrosion of metal surfaces - staining o Etching of plaster, grout o Increased risk of problems and major repair costs Highest grade mineral available o Very fine, granular form o Dissolves quickly and fully o Food grade no impurities o Alkaline ph 8.3 in solution When Apply when needed to maintain TA between ppm Always test with fresh fill and monthly thereafter AquaAce balances TA to the desired range of ppm, ph to and CH to ppm with each prescription. How Much To raise TA: o 18 g per 1,000 L raises TA 10 ppm 1 capful = 10 grams (approx.) How Always adjust TA 1 st, before ph or TH Operate pump with air off Apply product by sprinkling slowly over water surface in one application Circulate for 1 2 hours Always test and re-balance ph after application of Balance TA+

9 7 Reducing Total Alkalinity Tips Sheet What is Total Alkalinity? Total Alkalinity (TA) is a very important com ponent of overall water balance. Its primary role is to help keep ph in proper balance. The best definition of TA is; the measure of waters ability to resist a change in ph. In other words, once you balance your ph successfully within the range of , it is TA that helps you keep it there. The secondary role of TAA is to assist in providing the overall mineral content that all water requires to prevent unnecessary damage to surfaces. Water low in TA will see the ph bouncing up and down, almost uncontrollably. The hot tub surfaces will also be at risk of long-term damage due to corrosion, especially metal surfaces. Water high in TA will find the ph constantly high and in need of reducing and a greater risk of scale formation, cloudy water and shorter filter runs. Ideal TA Levels: All Hot Tub Surfaces: ppm Reducing Total Alkalinity: When TA is high, it requires lowering with Dazzle Pro Balance ph -, a safe, dry form of acid. AquaAce, our highly accurate computerized water analysis pro gram, will calculate the quantity of Pro Balance ph - required, dividing the total amount into applications over a num ber of days. Lowering TA is traditionally done over a number of days to slowly and safely lower the TA without red ucing the ph to dangerously low levels. When done properly, the TA slowly steps down and the ph never drops below 7.2. Safe and Simple! Steps: 1) Test ph if above 7.2, apply that days application of Pro Balance ph -. 2) If below 7.2, wait for the ph to climb above 7.2 before making your next application. It will come up on its own. 3) Apply by broadcasting evenly over t he water surface, primarily in the deep end. 4) Make note of the application to ensu re you complete the number of applications required. To Speed Up the Process: 1) Test ph if above 7.2, apply that days application of Pro Balance ph-. 2) After 1 2 hours, test ph again. If the ph is still above 7.2, apply another application of Pro Balance ph-. 3) Repeat this process every 1 2 hours, making applications of Pro Balance ph- provided the ph remains above 7.2. This process allows for many applications to be made per day, provided the ph re mains above ) Stop applications once the ph drops below 7.2, restarting once the ph climbs above 7.2 again. 5) Make note of each application and stop once the total number of applications have been made, as per the AquaAce prescription.

10 8 What is ph? What is ph potential Hydrogen The measure of the acidity or basicity of a solution The relationship between Hydrogen (H+) and Hydroxyl (OH-) Ions A scale between 0 and 14 Logarithmic ph 7 is considered neutral ph less than 7 acidic ph greater than 7 basic or alkaline Why Is It Important In hot tub water, it is important to maintain ph in the range of o Bather comfort o Sanitizer efficiency o Protection of surfaces from scale, stains, corrosion o Clear water o Fewer problems / easier maintenance Use$$ Balance$pH+$ Use$$ Balance$pH.$ Why Does it Change Problems Associated with ph Frequent product additions When low acidic o Every product has a ph o Uncomfortable, irritating Salt systems high o Corrodes surfaces Ozone - high o Sanitizer dissipates quickly Bather load / bather wastes When high scale forming Aeration o Uncomfortable Fill water o Scale forms more readily o Sanitizers weaker o Cloudy water (calcium)

14 12 What is Calcium Hardness? What is CH The measure of dissolved calcium present in the water Total Hardness is the measure of calcium and magnesium Proper hot tub range: ppm If low, raise with Balance TH+ If high, control with Stain & Scale 1 and 2 Balance initially at fresh fill Check monthly and adjust/treat as needed Why Is It Important In hot tub water, a balanced calcium hardness does the following: o Helps protect surfaces from corrosion, staining o Helps protect surfaces from scale formation o Helps provide clearer water o Fewer problems / easier maintenance Why Does CH Change Top up water can raise or lower CH Otherwise, it shouldn t shift much once balanced Product additions don t generally have an effect on CH Problems Associated with CH When low soft water o Etched plaster, grout o Increased corrosiveness o Possible staining When high scale forming o Scale forms more readily Heater, therapy jets Remove with Stain & Scale 1 Prevent with Stain & Scale 2 o Cloudy water o Hard water stains

15 13 Balance TH+ Why When Raises Calcium Hardness (CH) Use when CH is less than 100 ppm to return to effective range of ppm Low CH causes; o Etching of plaster, grout o Increased overall corrosion of surfaces - staining o Increased risk of problems and major repair costs Highest grade mineral available o Clean, granular, prill form o Dissolves quickly and fully even in hot water o Lowest impurity level available Apply when needed to maintain CH between ppm Always test with fresh fill and monthly thereafter AquaAce balances TA to the desired range of ppm, ph to and CH to ppm with each prescription. o Alkaline ph 8-9 in solution How Much To raise CH: o 10 g per 1,000 L raises CH 10 ppm 1 capful = 10 grams (approx.) 17 15 Phosphates in Hot Tubs What are Phosphates? What harm do they do? Phosphates are the naturally occurring form of the element phosphorous, found in many phosphate minerals. In ecological terms, phosphate is a very important resource as its availability can govern the rate of growth of organisms (especially in fresh water systems). In other words, phosphate is often the determining factor in whether microorganisms like algae and bacteria grow. This important characteristic makes them undesirable in hot tub water as they can fuel a microbial infestation (biofilm). In addition, the presence of phosphates can create a significant demand for sanitizers like bromine and chlorine as oxidizers like these will attempt to break phosphates down. Phosphates will also combine with calcium ions in the water as it heats to form a calcium phosphate complex, leading to scale formation and dull water. In salt-water hot tubs, phosphate can coat the electrodes of the device, preventing the efficient production of chlorine or bromine or cause scale to form on the electrode. Phosphates provide no useful benefit but can make successful water management problematic and costly. Phosphate Removal: 1. Have your hot tub water tested by your Hot Tub professional to determine the quantity of phosphate present. Levels greater than 100 ppb are considered significant enough to cause issues as highlighted above. 2. Prior to treating the hot tub to remove phosphates, ensure the water is properly balanced with specific focus on the total alkalinity and ph. Ensure both are properly balanced prior to commencing treatment. a. To ensure phosphates are efficiently removed, it is recommended that your filter cartridge be cleaned prior to treatment with Dazzle Filter Cleanse, as per label directions. 3. Apply Dazzle Phos Cleanse at the following rate: If phosphate level is <300 ppb, use 375 ml per 1,000 L. When phosphate level is ppb, use 500 ml per 1,000 L. When phosphate level is >600 ppb, use 750 ml per 1,000 L. Shake well before applying and add into the skimmer or directly in front of the suction plate. Ideally, the product should be added in such a way that it goes directly to the filter cartridge. Each 1 litre application of Phos Cleanse will remove approx ,000 ppb of phosphate from your water. 4. Run your pump and filter for a minimum of 4 6 hours per day while Phos Cleanse is in the filter cartridge. Note: The water may go cloudy after addition - run the pump and filter continuously until clear hours after application, remove the filter cartridge(s) and rinse with water using a garden hose and moderate pressure. Never use a pressure washer to rinse your filter cartridge(s) as this can cause damage. 6. Repeat applications of Phos Cleanse, if necessary, based on the phosphate level to be removed. 7. Once treatments with Phos Cleanse are complete, clean your cartridge with Filter Cleanse, following label directions. Prevention: Avoid the use of products which contain phosphates or are phosphate-based (i.e. certain stain and scale control products contain Phosphonic Acid, which reverts to orthophosphate after oxidation). Should your fill water contain a phosphate residual, you can treat periodically with Dazzle Phos Cleanse following the instructions above, to maintain a level that is not problematic.

18 16 Understanding the Saturation Index What is the Saturation Index? The saturation index, or Langelier Index, was developed by Wilfred E. Langelier, a professor of Civil Engineering at the University of California-Berkeley. It was originally developed for use in the boiler and steel pipe industry to determine whether water would tend to form scale or corrode surfaces. The index was modified for the swimming pool and hot tub industry to determine the overall mineral balance of water as it relates to calcium carbonate equilibrium. Pool and hot tub professionals use the saturation index as a quick guide to determine if water in a pool or hot tub is adequate or balanced. Water that is low relative to the saturation index (a negative number) will tend to corrode surfaces, damaging them. Water that is high relative to the saturation index (a positive number), will tend to form scale on surfaces, clogging pipes, damaging heater elements and providing a place for bacteria to grow. An acceptable saturation index calculation provides a result between -.5 and +.5. The saturation index takes into account the ph, total alkalinity (TA), calcium hardness (CH), temperature and total dissolved solids (TDS) in the calculation. The ph is used as its own value while the total alkalinity, calcium hardness, temperature and TDS are all factors of the actual water test result. Therefore, the calculation is: SI = ph + FTA + FCH + FT FTDS Using the Saturation Index: Every AquaAce water test will calculate and display the Saturation Index at the top of each print-out. When the result is within the desired range of -.5 to +.5, it is likely that only minor adjustments or no adjustments in water balance would be required. This is not always so, however. It is possible for the individual test results to be significantly out of balance but offsetting one another, leaving the saturation index within range. Adjusting each individual factor that is out of range will return the saturation index to the acceptable level. This situation demonstrates the fallibility of the saturation index. It is not sufficient to just use the saturation index for water balance. As a matter of fact, if each individual aspect of water balance is managed within the acceptable ranges, the saturation index looks after itself and its calculation is redundant. A Saturation Index above +.5 indicates water that is scale forming. AquaAce will check each individual aspect of water balance and recommend adjustment, bringing the saturation index into balance as a result. For example, a ph of 8.2, with a balanced TA, CH, TDS and normal temperature would lead to a saturation index of approximately +.8, above the acceptable range. As a result, AquaAce will recommend a treatment of Dazzle Stain & Scale 2 given the scale forming condition of the water as it currently sits. It will also recommend that the ph be reduced with Dazzle Pro Balance ph- to the acceptable level of 7.5. Once the ph has been returned to the acceptable range, -.7 will be removed from the saturation index, reducing the result from +.8 to +.1, well within the acceptable range for the saturation index. There is one exception where the saturation index cannot be returned to the acceptable range. That is when CH is very high as there is no way to lower CH without draining the water and adding water of a lower CH level. Therefore, the water must be managed with a high saturation index through the use of regular treatments of Dazzle Stain & Scale 2. This will help prevent scale despite the high saturation index. A saturation index below -.5 indicates water that is corrosive or acidic. Again, AquaAce will check each individual aspect of water balance and recommend adjustment for any that are outside the acceptable range. Should TA, ph or CH be less than that recommended, they will be raised, bringing up the saturation index at the same time, and back within the acceptable range. A low saturation index can always be raised to the acceptable level by adjusting the individual aspects of water balance that are low. In summary, the saturation index provides a quick guide as to the tendency of that body of water to form scale or corrode surfaces. By balancing each individual aspect of water balance to within its proper range, the saturation index looks after itself. When the saturation index is out of range, returning each individual aspect of water balance to its proper range will fix the saturation index.

24 22 The Everything H2O Water Care Program; Cleanse What is the Purpose Part of Everything H2O Total Hot Tub Water Care Program; o o o Prevent Cleanse Protect with Less o Enhance Cleanse is an integral step in the maintenance of dazzling clear, comfortable water for bathers Combining 2 important steps; reducing waste through effective shocking and removing the remainder with powerful, natural enzymes and botanicals A key part of the Dazzle Healthier, More Natural approach A distinctive difference vs traditional methods Why is it Important Hot Tub water is going to accumulate bather waste through use Organics (body oils, sweat, lotions, etc) and particulate (dead skin, dust) too fine to filter, are the biggest culprits Over time, they accumulate to a point where water goes off (cloudy, odours, foam, irritation) A systematic approach to cleansing the water, ensures the water is inviting and pleasing all the time In addition, it is through the attempted removal of bather waste, that traditional programs create unhealthy water; increased chemical concentrations and the formation of disinfection-by-products The Dazzle approach eliminates this Step 1 Reduce (Amaze or Amaze Plus) The heavy-lifter, Amaze or Amaze Plus, reduces waste through oxidation Oxidation, a natural phenomenon, whereby oxygen molecules reduce the different substances they may contact (apple turning brown, rusting of a car) Amaze introduces enhanced activated oxygen to water to reduce waste Waste is reduced as it is in nature Traditional programs utilize chlorine or bromine as the oxidizer inefficient, raises chemical levels, can create DBP s Step 2 Remove (Botanical Cleanse) The detailer, Botanical Cleanse, removes the oils, residuals remaining after oxidation Powerful, all-natural enzymes and botanicals release and digest remaining waste All-natural enzymes have broadest spectrum Scum-line, biofilms, partially-oxidized organics all digested away Just as nature does it You re left with water - carbon dioxide and nitrogen are expelled as gases Botanical Cleanse helps maintain clear, comfortable water and clean surfaces

28 26 What is Biofilm? Biofilm is a rapidly reproducing colony of microorganisms surrounded by their protective slime in an aqueous environment. They grow on surfaces where water doesn t flow and prefer environments where water is stagnant and void of sanitizer. In hot tubs, they are often found in the pipes where the water flow has been stopped or dramatically reduced (i.e. diverter valves isolate certain therapy returns, waterfalls where flow has been shut off, etc.). Biofilm is noticeable after water flow is returned to isolated pipes and is blown back into the hot tub in the form of floating particulate that appears as tiny pieces of skin or torn up pieces of tissue paper. Removal: (do not use hot tub during this process) 1. Ensure that water is flowing freely through all pipes, waterfalls, etc. and leave this way for duration of treatment period. 2. Properly balance the hot tub water with particular attention to balancing the ph to within the proper range of Test periodically over the next 3 5 days to ensure ph continuously stays within this range. 3. Elevate bromine or chlorine residual to 5.0 ppm or higher. Do not exceed 10 ppm. Maintain an elevated level for the next 3 5 days. Use Dazzle Bromine Granules or Dazzle Chlorine Granules to boost the level and maintain it. Test regularly to ensure the level stays at a minimum of 5.0 ppm. 4. Apply 150 ml of Dazzle Algae Clear 60 per 1,000 L of hot tub water. 5. Run the pump periodically over the next 3 5 days to flush the pipes and keep the biofilm circulating in the water as much as possible. 6. After a minimum of 3 days, if the water is clear and the signs of biofilm have diminished or are gone, move to the next step. If not, ensure steps #2 and #3 are still in check and repeat step #4. 7. Once visible signs of biofilm are gone or after 5 days, stop additions of chlorine or bromine as in #3 above and allow the residual to lower to less than 5.0 ppm. 8. With chlorine or bromine level less than 5.0 ppm, apply 1 bottle of Dazzle Drain Prep, as per label directions. Remove filter cartridge and wait 2 days before moving to next step. 9. Clean filter cartridge with Dazzle Filter Cleanse as per label directions. 10. After 2 days, drain hot tub, clean inside tub with Dazzle Tub Cleanse and follow proper procedure for refilling the hot tub. Prevention: 1. Always return diverter valve to position that allows flow through all return fittings after hot tub use. 2. Use Dazzle Stain & Scale 1 with every fresh fill as per label directions. 3. Use Dazzle Stain & Scale 2, Dazzle Amaze and Dazzle Botanical Cleanse weekly as per label directions. 4. Continuously maintain ph and chlorine or bromine levels in proper ranges. 5. Use Dazzle Drain Prep prior to each drain as per label directions.

49 Introducing our Salt Generator System + = Portable Chlorine Generator for Spas Saltron MINI Spa Sanitation System produces a pure form of chlorine by electrolysis of salt (NaCl) in order to sanitize your spa water. After the salt is converted to chlorine and the bacteria are killed, the chlorine converts back to salt and this process is ongoing. The salt concentration used is very low (less than that in a human tear). Chlorine output can be easily adjusted by the timer on the power supply unit. The chlorine level in your spa can be checked by using a standard chlorine test kit. One Saltron MINI unit can treat up to 600 gallons (2,200L) of spa water (or up to 2000 gallons Swim Spa water). Product Advantages: For any in-ground or above ground spa or swim spa up to 2,000 gallons. Independent from the spa filter and pump system. Reverse polarity every 2-4 hours on cell. Comes with cell holder which conveniently gives the cell a home while bathing. Replaceable cell. Easy to set-up and no installation or plumbing required. No more purchasing, transportation or storage of chlorine. No more skin irritations and itchy red eyes. Eco-friendly and very minimal electricity required. LED indicator lights illuminate for easy salt level reference. Commercial grade titanium cell plates coated with precious metals. Switch-mode power supply supplies smooth current to cell resulting in longer lifetime. Critical fault protections with automatic shut-down. Turn your hot tub into a Salt system today

50 say good bye to chemical soup and say hello too Hot tub care and maintenance is not as difficult as you may imagine it to be. Especially when you are using the Mineraluxe system. No chemical broth, no complicated cleaning manuals, just simple, safe and effective solutions this is what the system is all about. Mineraluxe proves that you don t need to be a hot tub expert or a chemistry geek to care for your recreational and relaxation device. Why does the Mineraluxe system work so well? Our products are not harsh and perform their intended responsibilities effectively. Use the Mineraluxe Cleanse & Drain to remove the grease and oil build up that has inundated your hot tub pipes. To clean the surfaces and make them more hygienic and visually appealing, dabble some of the Dazzle Tub Cleanse on the tub s insides and its cover (the underside). These three products together comprise this leading hot tub cleaning system. The Mineraluxe system is available at both our store locations give your hot tub the care and attention it deserves with this excellent solution.
