2 Photo: ZSOLT CZEGLÉDI / MTI Message from the FINA President It is my great pleasure to welcome you all again in Budapest (HUN), successful host of an unforgettable 2017 edition of the FINA World Championships. This time, we are back in the beautiful Magyar capital for a couple of outstanding events in artistic swimming a leg of the World Series (May 18-20) and the World Junior Championships (July 17-22). The FINA strategy behind the creation of these World Series is the enhancement of the exposure and popularity of this spectacular discipline around the globe. This can be measured through the number of stages of the competition: right in the second season, the Series boosts no less than 10 events in three continents! As for the Junior competition, I am certain that our athletes surely Olympic champions in the future - will once more demonstrate the attractiveness of this discipline in Budapest. Artistic swimming is certainly one of the most spectacular and eye-catching sports! It combines elegance and rhythm, beauty and concentration, excitement and team spirit. These two grand randezvous will be staged in the Duna Arena, a truly world-class facility. One cannot find any better example on how to make a rich legacy of a World Championships. During last year s championships we couldn t wait the starts of each session as we could enter to a temple of aquatics where the Magyar people created an unforgettable atmosphere. Now this breath-taking building will be filled with world-class action and the crowd s cheering once more. And, again as a legacy, while Hungary was known for staging great events in swimming, open water swimming and water polo, now, after the brilliant events and the big success of the artistic swimming events at the World Championships, this discipline starts also to gain ground in the Magyar nation. I take this opportunity to warmly thank our Hungarian hosts and friends. As with the FINA World Championships last summer, the best possible conditions with be offered to our athletes, coaches and officials. FINA representatives assessed the 2017 World Championships as the best ever in history, so we are quite delighted to become hosts of outstanding aquatic events again. This year we can welcome back most of the competitors from last summer, first at the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series in May then at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in July. After being part in a great competition staged in the wonderful environment at the Varosliget, now they can show their class in another magnificent venue, the Duna Arena. These highly rated Artistic Swimming meets serve as another great opportunity to channel the attention of 208 FINA member countries towards Budapest and to further strengthen our capital s regional role in culture and tourism, beyond sport. I do hope that thanks to these events, the global audience following sport, just as the athletes and supporters visiting us, shall be convinced once more that Budapest is a sport-loving city which inspires everyone to do some sport, to do workouts, to be on the move on a frequent basis. Budapest considers sport as one of the top values and we are really proud that by staging outstanding sport events in the 21st century, we can contribute significantly to create communities and to develop peaceful financial, cultural and personal relations. I sincerely hope that we can greet visitors at the World Series and the junior World Championships who shall become returning guests in our capital and share their pleasant impressions with the world. 4 Greetings from the Government Message from the FINA Bureau Liaison history, sometimes in the autumn. Artistic swimming, open water, water polo, swimming FINA Events in each discipline in Hungary from May to October. Well, it is almost like a World Championships, isn t it? You can call it the Hungarian way: we ll do it anyway, even in even year. Hope you will enjoy it just as much as in the last summer. Let me wish all participants the best of luck! The reason is simple, the 2017 FINA World Championships made an impact to this sport. And it s a kind of obligation to maintain this legacy and by relying on that to develop artistic swimming in Hungary. This can serve as a fine example for the whole FINA Family how to use an event s success and transform its benefits into shaping a brighter future for a given discipline. Widening the basis of the sport, involving more and more nations, athletes, coaches, officials is a great target of FINA and in Hungary we just see that happening. Dear FINA Family s, Dear Guests, Dear FINA Family s, Friendly best regards, We were happy to host the best ever FINA World Championships in 2017 in Budapest and a bit sad soon after it had been concluded. For me, as former Olympic swimmer it was especially touching to follow the magnificent races in a truly world-class environment where thousands of fans created a fantastic atmosphere. And that applied to all venues, all disciplines. Here we are now, in 2018, and even though we would love to be ready for another big-big showcase, sadly, the World Champs are heading towards another direction. What we can do is to host a series of FINA Events in the well-established venues, relying on our hosting experience and hoping that members of the FINA Family are happy to come back here. Hosting and offering a helping in hand is also another clear message from the Hungarian Government: sport enjoys the utmost appreciation here. Our support of aquatics did not finish on the closing day of the World Championships, it goes on, year by year as we do think that one cannot find any better field for investment than sport which is the best tool to raise healthy and competitive generations. Artistic swimming kicks off the series of meets this year, the Budapest stage of the World Series in May and later the FINA World Junior Artistic Swimming Championships will be great hits, I am sure. But we shall have top level competitions in the other sports too. In June the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Series will stop in Balatonfured, the open water swimmers paradise. The city of Szombathely will witness tough battles of the future generations at the FINA World Men s Junior Water Polo Championships in August. I can tell you that we are still living in our dreams and in order to stay there and not wake up we decided to go on and stage big FINA Events in the years coming. Since Hungary hasn t been listed among the top, let alone the usually participating nations in this discipline, you might be surprised why the FINA Artistic Swimming World Series is the first meet organised here (followed by the FINA World Junior Artistic Swimming Championships in July). 5 Greetings from the OC Chairman Greetings from the Fed President Dear Friends, We are immensely proud to welcome the participants of another outstanding FINA Event in Hungary. Last year perhaps all of you could see how sport-loving nations we, Hungarians are. As a minister let me add that the current Hungarian Government loves sport as well. Supporting it is among the top priorities of this Government and we have been acting accordingly for years. Constructing new facilities, refurbishing the older ones, funding the junior development and staging a series of international meets are core parts of our programme. We consider sport as the best tool and the most proper way to raise the future generations and build a healthy society. The FINA World Championships was our biggest commitment so far and we were happy with the outcome as we learnt the FINA Family also enjoyed the fortnight in Budapest. Our common story shouldn t end here and we are keen to add further chapters as we have great facilities, trained organisers and fans who have an everlasting love towards sport. As a Government representative responsible for national development I frequently meet the so called win-win situations in the everyday business. I see that it also works in sport: our country wins as we can welcome the best athletes who can inspire our competitors and the younger ones while you, dear FINA Family s, can enjoy a fine racing environment as well as the wonders Budapest and our beautiful country has to offer for all guests from time to time. Though it required a huge effort to stage the 2017 FINA World Championships and when the big event was over, first we felt a kind of relief and satisfaction that we were able to deliver, but... After a while we started to miss everything related to the grand meet. The excitement, the atmosphere even the problems we had faced and tried to solve. It was a tremendous honour to welcome the best athletes from all over the world, it was fantastic to see them performing and fans celebrating them. We all agreed: we want to relive it as many times as possible. Though staging another World Championships is not real today (perhaps...) but to stage FINA Events in our beloved aquatic disciplines is a must. It is as we have a strong and rich legacy in all fields. We have world-class facilities, we have an experienced organising team and ultimately we have the fans who were engaged last summer and wish to see more of the best action. So Budapest reopens its doors for the FINA Family: the first ones we greet are you, dear artistic swimming greats but soon representatives of other disciplines will also show up for other showcases. I know you would love to see this World Series event being staged in the Varosliget (City Park) once again no doubt, that venue was something beyond imagination. Still, we think you will love the Duna Arena as well. Even in legacy mood it s one of the best complexes in the world and you will be part of history as the first athletes competing in the reshaped pool. On behalf of the Hungarian Artistic Swimming Federation I can promise to ensure you everything you got used to in the summer of 2017: world-class facility, athlete-friendly environment, professional organisation and warm hospitality. 10 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2018 #5 Budapest Open, HUNGARY May 18-20, 2018 ARTISTIC SWIMMING FINA Artistic Swimming World Series 2018 #5 Budapest Open, HUNGARY May 18-20, 2018 ARTISTIC SWIMMING Pathway to collecting points to win the series: Participants obtain points in each category (solo, duet, mixed duet and team) selecting freely the different competitions to attend. National Federations must participate in a minimum of four (4) competitions to be eligible for prize money in each of the categories. Different combinations of athlete participations are possible as long as the minimum number of events are completed: For example: countries may obtain points for the solo prize money by competing in three (3) solo tech events and one (1) solo free event with different athletes in four different competitions. In the team category, any combination of four possible events (Team Free, Team Tech, Team Combination or Highlight Routine would be valid as long as the National Federation competed in four team events at four different competitions. Tie situation In case of a tie for any prize money position, the prize money corresponding to the number of placings tied will be divided in equal parts to the countries affected. For example, if there is a tie for the 3rd place by two countries, the money prize assigned for 3rd and 4th places will be added up, divided in two and delivered to both, and the next placement will be the 5th place. 19 VISA INFORMATION In order to comply with the Visa arrangement regulations in Hungary, required documents must be provided as needed for prospective participants, both the officials and the athletes. The OC will provide Visa assistance. During practice sessions Team Managers/Coaches should check their music with the Sound Centre Manager. Passport check During the Technical Meeting passport will be checked for each competitor to verify sports nationality and determine age eligibility. Awards Medals will be awarded for placings 1st-3rd in all events. Certificates will be distributed for placings 4-12th. 29 Insurance Participants are recommended to insure against loss, accidents and damage occurred during the Meet. Languages The official language of the Meet is English. No interpretation service will be available. Weather The daytime temperature in the month of July is usually between 23 and 30 centigrade.
