United Kition Athletic. The team s home kit is yellow and green where the away kit is black and white, and the reason of these two kits being such colors is because each kit s color represents EPA s and POL s colors. The emblem of AEK is Athenian Kimon, who died at the seafront of Larnaka defending the city of Kition (modern Larnaka) in a major battle in around 450 BC, in a fight against the Persians. Kimon had told his officers to keep the news of his possible death a secret. The quote Even in death he was victorious refers to Kimon and is an inspiration for the fans and the motto of the team. So far, AEK had won the Cup once in 2004 and was a runner up twice. (1996, 2006). Also for the first time in its history it had finished in the second place in the season 2014/15. The next season (2015/16) it had finished again in the second place. The brightest part of the club though is the qualification to the Europa League groups in the season after beating Floriana, Mlada Boleslav and Rosenborg. ΑΕΚ was the first Cypriot team to qualify to the group stage of this tournament.

Athough this plan stirred up very negative reactions among footballers and fans alike and despite the fact that members of Slavoj originally declared that they rejected the plan, in the end they changed their minds. As a result, Slovan Liberec was formed on 12 July With this name, the football club affirmed the Czech character of the club as well as the region where it played. The very first competitor the newly created team faced was Spartak Praha Sokolovo, as the famous team Sparta Prague was called at the time. Slovan lost 0:3. After overcoming a financial crisis that the club found itself in following the 1989 «Velvet Revolution», Slovan Liberec finally got a chance to advance to the top league. On 6 January 1992, the new history of Slovan began, when the new young management got its chance at the general meeting and promised to advance to the first league. Following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the six best teams in the second league were promoted to the newly created Czech premier league. Slovan finally did it they advanced from fifth place. In the first years in the league, Slovan finished mid-table. The first successes were two consecutive cup finals. In 1999, Slovan was defeated by Slavia Prague 0:1, and in 2000, Slovan won the Czech Football Cup by beating second-league Baník Ratíškovice 2:1. In the 2001/2002 season the club ascended up to the league throne, becoming the first Czech Republic Champion outside Prague. Since then, Slovan has ranked among the local football elite and has won two other League Championship titles (in 2006 and 2012) and reached the cup final two more times, losing to Sparta in shootout in 2008 and winning over Jablonec in shootout in Slovan had been playing European Cups for 10 seasons in a row since the 2000/01 season. Τhe next season (2001/02) they got to the UEFA Cup quarterfinal, overtaking such teams as Celta Vigo, Real Mallorca and Olympique Lyon.

11 LARNAKA Larnaka city Larnaka, is the third largest city of after Nicosia and Limassol. It has a population of and it is the island s second largest commercial port and an important tourist resort destination. The island s largest airport, Larnaka International Airport is located on the outskirts of the city. Near Larnaka International Airport there is the Larnaka Salt Lake which fills with water during the winter and is visited by flocks of flamingoes that stay here from November till the end of March, as it dries up in the summer. It used to yield a good quality of salt which was scraped from its dried up surface. The city of Larnaka is well-known for its picturesque seafront which includes rows of palm trees (finikoudes) and where the ancient castle of Larnaka is located. Larnaka Marina is one of the four official entry points, by sea, to. The Old Aqueduct known as The Kamares, stands outside the town on the way to Limassol. It was built by the Ottoman Governor Koca Bekir Pasha in Roman style in 1745 to carry water from a source of about 6 miles south of Larnaka into the town. The aqueduct is illuminated at night. The beaches of Larnaka are lined with nearly identical seafood restaurants catering to both locals and tourists. Although there is lots of continental and international cuisine available in Larnaka, visitors do not miss out on indulging in the local food. Much of the activity is centered around the city promenade during the major festivals. The most important of these is Kataklysmos (Festival of the Flood), celebrated in early summer (June) with a series of cultural events. The temperature in Larnaka at summer time reaches 33 C or higher and at winter it drops to 17 C and sometimes lower.
