2 BATTLE CREEK CHRISTMAS PARADE YOUR PARADE DAY PACKET The FINAL PARADE LINE-UP is a separate document in this . This is your Parade Day Packet. You must review this document in it s entirety to ensure that your entry is prepared. This packet is intended guide you through your parade day experience. The document is quite long due to individual maps of staging areas. As a suggestion, only print the pages that apply to your entry. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I use satellite photos from Google Earth in this packet. All pictures are oriented so the top of the page is north. If you have difficulty with the maps, please feel free to contact me. Jim Demarest

3 SIZE OF YOUR ENTRY AND STAGING AREA LIMITATIONS This year s parade will feature over 85 entries. In a compressed format in the staging areas, the parade line-up takes more than 1.0 miles. We utilize GPS MAPPING to assign your exact position within the staging area for the length you specified when you registered. We have adequate room in the staging areas for the units, but any additions to this will affect the entire line-up. INASMUCH, AT THIS POINT, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO ADD ANYTHING TO YOUR ENTRY. In addition, ONLY VEHICLES REGISTERED TO BE IN THE PARADE are allowed in the staging area. If you require things to be assembled or loaded on your float, please do before you enter the staging areas. NO SUPPORT VEHICLES WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE STAGING AREA. We have transportation (golf carts) to take you or equipment to your staging location from Entry A if you need assistance. The Parade Staging Area Opens at 3:00pm (See football alert notice)

4 FOOTBALL ALERT We may have to work the parade staging area around a state level football playoff game at C.W. Post Field on parade day. IF a game is played it will begin at 1pm and end around 3:30pm. The decision to have a game rests with the MHSAA and cannot be determined until the weekend prior to the parade. If so, entrance to the staging area would not begin UNTIL 4PM THAT DAY. Any entries that arrive prior to 4pm will have to be turned around to come back after 4pm. Judging will be delayed accordingly. The only way to know if there is going to be of a game that day is to check the parade website at The information will be prominently displayed on the website. We will have periodic public information blurbs on WBCK (95.3FM) during the morning show that week as well. WE APOLOGIZE FOR THIS POSSIBILITY. 6 The Parade Terminates at the Commerce Point parking lot. Parking is available across the street in the County Parking Lot. Plan on picking up your children at this location. The lot will be closed for vehicles so plan accordingly. Commerce point Parking Lot

7 BATTLE CREEK CHRISTMAS PARADE ALL UNITS IN THE PARADE MUST HAVE YOUR ENTRY NUMBER AFFIXED TO YOUR TOWING VEHICLE OR ENTRY. THE NUMBER MUST BE VISIBLE FROM GROUND LEVEL AND BE ON THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF YOUR VEHICLE. THE NUMBER MUST BE ON WHITE BACKGROUND WITH BLACK NUMBERS. THE MINIMUM SIZE OF NUMBERS IS 4 INCHES TALL. DO NOT PUT THESE SIGNS ON YOUR DASHBOARD. 101 SAMPLE I have constructed a.pdf document with all Entry number signs You can use this to print your entry number from this document. PRINT ONLY THE PAGE THAT HAS YOUR ENTRY NUMBER because it is 120 pages long. Use regular sized paper and print only in blank ink. Please print only one sign for your entry. 9 BATTLE CREEK CHRISTMAS PARADE STAGING AREA GUIDE The attached Parade Line-Up Report provides details for your entry. Your entry number is in column #1. The last column LOT is your staging area. Find your LOT number and then refer to this guide to determine what staging area your unit has been assigned. Those assigned to staging areas A-G will check in at ENTRY A. Those assigned to staging lots H-L will report directly to those areas.

10 BATTLE CREEK CHRISTMAS PARADE MOTORCYCLE GROUP INSTRUCTIONS Due to the number of motorcycles each year, we have had to change our staging area and procedure for motorcycle clubs in the parade. We have simply outgrown Michigan Avenue and the fact the inserting the units is difficult due to the number of people watching the parade at this corner. ALL MOTORCYCLE UNITS will now stage within the normal parade staging area off Champion Street. This will ADD to your waiting time and add approx. 2,500 feet to your journey through the parade. We understand that this could create a difficulty for air cooled units, but we are out of options at this point and have no choice but to change the procedure. Keeping the units OFF in the staging should help dramatically. The NEW STAGING AREA for Motorcycle Clubs will be the Davenport Parking Lot off Champion Street. ALL motorcycles in the parade will have to enter the parade staging area at the corner of Champion Street at West Street. This is noted on the spotting map at ENTRY A. Motorcycle groups will gather by entry number within the parking lot and will be inserted in to the parade by the lot coordinator

26 PUBLIC SAFETY PARTICIPATION POLICY All Public Safety Agencies in and around the greater Battle Creek and Calhoun County area are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Annual Christmas Parade and highlight their departments. Public Safety Agencies will be staged in an area segregated from the regular line-up area to ensure that they have unimpeded immediate egress in case of an emergency. The Public Safety Agencies will lead the parade to ensure that they have an unimpeded egress from the parade route in case of an emergency. One police car, one fire truck or one EMS unit per Department will be allowed in the parade line-up. Those departments that have combined services (Public Safety Departments) will be allowed one unit per service provided. Any agency or department that has made a significant capital purchase of new equipment that they would like feature in the parade in addition to their one unit can be added. The request has to be made and approved in advance of the parade.
