The Fortress Falls It s not an easy task to remember the last time the Hakoah First Grade lost at Hensley. The fortress was solidified in amazing fashion last season, and greatly contributed to the success this team has achieved over the past two seasons. For this reporter, the last time I can recall a First Grade loss at Hensley was the Major Semi Final in 2011, against the Roosters. But this week saw the side slump to a disappointing 2-4 loss to Balmain Tigers. In a lacklustre performance, Hakoah conceded early in the first period. Attempting to take the game to the Tigers, Hakoah held the bulk of possession for the remainder of the half, but lacked any attacking flair to create a clear cut chance. The side levelled the scores after the break through a Michael Randall finish, but conceded another three in quick succession following the equaliser. A late penalty to Brad Walker made the score line more aesthetically pleasing, but was no more than a consolation. Under 20 The Under 20s fell to a shock 1-3 loss against Balmain, also in a sub-par performance. The side went 0-2 in the first half, before conceding again straight after the break. Josh Shubitz found the net to make for an exciting last 20 minutes, but despite having more of the ball, the side were unable to capitalise on a few chances, going down for their first loss of the season.
Under 18 The Under 18s made it two on the trot, with a decisive 5-3 victory over the Tigers. Falling behind 0-2 by the 18 th minute, the boys showed their fighting spirit, going into the sheds 3-2 up. Jeremy Horniblow had finished the first two, with David Adamo adding the third. The second period was all Hakoah, as Horniblow made it two hat-tricks in as many weeks, finishing his third in the 59 th minute. Despite a late concession, Hakoah added one more through Gadi Notelovtiz to make it 5-3 and grab a massive three points. Under 18 David Adamo (number 2) scores his side s third in their 5-3 victory over Balmain. Photo: Suzy Gaal. Under 16 It was different hemispheres in class in the early game, as the Under 16s thrashed Balmain In a bloodthirsty performance, the boys never became complacent, giving their goal difference a massive boost in the process of destroying a substandard Tigers outfit. Goals fell to Jonathan Solomon (4), Ryan Blumberg (3), Harry Buch (2), Greg Ellerine (2), Mark Filler, Dan Engelman and Josh Goodman. A Special Offer from Audi

$550 FINE FOR SMOKING AT A SPORT EVENT Please be aware that NSW Health - Tobacco Compliance Officers will now be issuing fines to people found smoking at sporting events. Smoking has been banned at sport venues in spectator areas since 7 January 2013 under the Smoke-free Environment Act Club members and spectators are still saying that they are not aware of the new regulation and have not been advised by their club. Unfortunately this excuse will not prevent the individual from receiving a fine but there is a need for clubs to reinforce the awareness of this new regulation. The fine for smoking at a sporting event is $550 to the individual smoker. Awards of the Week Player of the Week: In a week of goals, the Player of the Week should really be split between three. Jeremy Horniblow backed up his hat trick and Player of the Week Award from last week with another hat trick, this time against Balmain. Ryan Blumberg, the 15 year old playing in the Under 16s, netted a hat trick of his own against Balmain, as well as assisting in at least three other goals. But, if we re rewarding numbers, then this week s Player of the Week has to go to Jonathan Solomon. The Under 16 striker took home a four-goal haul against the Tigers, finishing in style with each goal. The pick of the quartet was his third - a free-kick from just outside the box, which sailed deftly into the top left corner. For netting four times in a single match, Solomon is this week s Player of the Week.
Under 16 Jonathan Solomon is this week s Player of the Week. Blunder of the Week: There s nothing like scoring a goal. That goes for any player on the pitch. But when a defender scores, it s something special. this is mainly due to the rarity of such an event. However, when you score FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, it is even more incredible. That s where Under 16 Dan Engelman comes in. Engelman, a defender by trade, scored his first ever goal for Hakoah in the demolition of Balmain. Clearly exuberant with his change in fortunes, Engelman made a point of carrying on in such a way that he was yellow carded for excessive celebrating. We here at Blunder HQ can t help but laugh at the fact that his first goal for Hakoah was smeared by a caution from the referee, and as a result, gladly award the Blunder of the Week to Dan Engelman.
Under 16 Dan Engelman (centre if you couldn t work that out), is this week s winner of the Blunder of the Week. The Upcoming Week This week is a massive game for all the Feds Seniors, as they take on Dulwich Hill on Sunday 19 th May 2013, at Arlington Oval, Constitution Rd, Dulwich Hill. Dulwich Hill are currently 1 st in First Grade, 4 th in Under 20s, 4 th in Under 18s and 6 th in Under 16s. All these games hold huge significance. Game details are: Under 16: 9.30 am Under 18: am Under 20: 1.00 pm First Grade: 3.00 pm
That s all from me this week. For any comments, queries, unsubscribes or award nominations, please Sarah at hakoah.feds@gmail.com
