1 St Edmund s Prep Sports Review- Season It has been a fantastic year for the St Edmund s Prep and Pre-Prep sports squads, with teams representing the school from Forms 2-6. We have played lots of different sports and entered a huge number of tournaments. The Prep School children have competed in inter-house competitions throughout the year, whilst also engaging in a very exciting sponsored walk around the Prep Sports Field and lunchtime boys v girls matches to raise money for Help For Heroes. Every child in Forms 3-6 has completed a number of athletic assessments, with records being kept to track their individual progress from year to year. The SportsHall Athletics Scheme, devised by England Athletics for delivery in Primary and Secondary Schools, has been followed and each child was able to attain a level on the national STEPS Award Scheme. A special mention should be given to the U11 Netball Team, whose progress over the last few years has been very impressive. In one of their last tournaments of the year, they beat several large schools to finish in 3 rd place at the hotly contested St Francis Netball Rally. The U9, U10 and U11 football teams all had very successful seasons too; between them they won 8 different tournaments! The U11 football team finished as runners-up at the ISFA National Finals, they were the Hertfordshire and Essex representatives after beating 18 teams in the regional competition and went on to play 16 other regional representative teams from all over England. A remarkable achievement! 2 Football Review W70 D15 L16 (101 matches) Sports Colours Awarded to: Edward Hanley, Freddie Knight, Gus Lawrence, Henry Jonscher, Phoenix Healy, Oliver Knipe, Matthew Kiwanuka, Morgan Davies and Joshua Brody Football Captain- Phoenix Healy U11A W40 D10 L9 ISFA Herts and Essex Regional Winners 2012 The U11 Football A team have had a magnificent season, winning the ISFA Herts. And Essex Regional Tournament, Chigwell tournament, ESFA District Cup, ESFA County Cup, Wix District Cup and the Kingshott Tournament. They also travelled to Burton-Upon Trent to compete in the ISFA National Finals at St George s Park (the England FA Training Centre) in April 2013, as Preparatory schools representatives for the Hertfordshire and Essex Region, and finished as runners-up. Large schools that the U11 Football A team have beaten and that have been involved in these tournaments along the way have included those such as: Milton Keynes Prep (winners of the Oxon and Bucks Region of the ISFA regional qualifiers and fellow finalists at the ISFA Finals in April), The Hall, Felstead, Chigwell, Highgate, Brentwood, Forest, Woodford Green Prep, Lockers Park, Edge Grove and a number of regional representative schools at the ISFA Finals. One game that really stood out during the season was the match against Heathmount, where our U11A team produced an outstanding display of football to win 6-1.

3 U11B W11 D4 L2 The Under 11 football B team also had a great season, showing lots of promise for future years. They won an impressive 11 games out of 17, with the match against Forest B standing out in particular. In this match, against a tough opposition, the team ran out as 3-1 winners after playing some excellent football and scoring some great goals from long-range. U10A W5 D0 L0 The Under 10 football team also performed very well this year and won a tournament too. They played five games at the Kingshott festival and won all of them. Their reward was a trophy after playing progressively better as the afternoon went on and winning their first game against the hosts by the narrowest of margins. U9A W10 D0 L1 The Under 9 A football team had a great season too, winning all but one of their games. On Thursday 22nd November, St Edmund s Prep Under 9 A team travelled to Heathmount to play their final matches of a previously unbeaten season. They played some fantastic football to win all three of their matches, including a 5-0 win against Duncombe, a thrilling 1-0 victory over Heathmount and a 7-0 win against St Aubyns. The boys played some excellent passing football and defended well.

4 U11C W2 D0 L0 U9B W1 D0 L1 U7A W0 D0 L2 Our Under 11 C football team, as well as our Under 9 B and Under 7 A football teams played as well this season and enjoyed many great games and some impressive victories. 5 U11A W21 D4 L11 The Under 11 A netball team played well and improved steadily throughout their season. Their highlight was finishing as runners-up in a tournament at Forest School at the beginning of October. They only narrowly lost to the eventual winners, Forest, on the total number of goals scored, despite having the same number of points and drawing against them in the final match! One game that really stood out during the netball season was an 8-6 win against a strong team from Stormont. St Edmund s Prep s goal shooting in the final third was very accurate and was enough to secure a memorable win in a very tough match. U11B W0 D0 L8 The Under 11 B netball team trained well and played with great team spirit. They experienced more success whilst playing for the U10 teams at tournaments or whilst the younger players played at their own U9 age group. However, the matches were a good experience and provided them with an opportunity to play, develop their skills and understand the game. The home and away matches against Ralph Sadleir were both very close and although they ended in narrow defeats, the Under 11 B netball team passed the ball well and their movement around the court was good. U9A W3 D2 L2 The Under 9 netball team also played really well this year and only lost two games. Their highlights were two fantastic games against Bishops Stortford College and Kingshott, two tough opponents that St Edmund s Prep U9A managed to win against impressively.

6 U7A W0 D0 L1 Our Pre-Prep Under 7 team played endball and football matches against other schools, they thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of representing St Edmund s Prep and will look forward to playing again in future years. Hockey Review W4 D6 L7 (17 matches) Sports Colours Awarded To: Emma Scott and Kate Barrett Hockey Captain- Emma Scott U11 Boys A W2 D0 L1 Won 2-1 v Heathmount on Monday 4th March. In a very exciting and skilful match, the U11 boys hockey team came from behind to beat Heathmount by two goals to one, with Morgan Davies and Freddie Knight scoring. Gus Lawrence, our captain, and Phoenix Healy also displayed some excellent stick skills and played extremely well to help secure an impressive victory.

7 U11A W0 D3 L3 Drew 1-1 v St Nicholas School on Tuesday 19th March. Despite taking an early lead with a lethal finish by Amber Mays, St Nicholas battled back to clinch a late equaliser. As the game progressed, our U11 team began to pass the ball with more fluency. This was a good demonstration of their improvement, when playing as a team, since the beginning of the season. U10A W2 D0 L0 Won 2-0 v St Joseph s In The Park on Friday 15th March. A goal apiece from Niamh Beagon and Claudia Williams helped the U10 hockey team earn a very good win against their opponents. They played with great enthusiasm and good spirit! U9A W0 D3 L3 Lost 2-5 v Howe Green on Wednesday 27th February. In an exciting match, our mixed quick- sticks hockey U9 team ended up on the losing side against a very good team from Howe Green. The game was played in quarters, with the score being tied at 2-2 after the third period thanks to goals from Ben Feltham and Joshua Sowter, with Jack Roberts also catching the eye in goal with some stunning saves. However, the opposition scored three more goals in the last quarter to win.

8 Rugby Review W7 D3 L9 (19 matches) Sports Colours Awarded To: Henry Jonscher and Callum McGurk Rugby Captain- Max Fraser U11A W5 D2 L5 Won 45-5 v St Nicholas School on Tuesday 19th March. Despite conceding an early try, the team soon got into their stride and responded with four tries before half time. In the second half, a further five tries were added to secure an emphatic victory. Henry Jonscher led from the front with an outstanding performance. U9A W2 D1 L3 Won 55-5 v Sherrardswood School on Thursday 7th March. The U9 team travelled to Welwyn Garden City and recorded a comfortable victory. Jack Davies and Joshua Sowter impressed by scoring particularly good tries, along with excellent performances by Liam Mays, Joseph Shenouda and Thomas Lewy.

9 U7 Tag Rugby A W0 D0 L1 Lost 5-6 v Duncombe on Thursday 28th February. Our mixed team of Form 2 boys and girls played some entertaining tag rugby and scored some super tries. Roman Healy, Amelia Smith and Rory Johnston were amongst the scorers in a close and enjoyable match. Cricket Review W6 D0 L5 (11 matches) Sports Colours Awarded To: Freddie Knight, Edward Hanley and Phoenix Healy Cricket Captain- Edward Hanley U11A W3 D0 L4 On Wednesday 5th June, our U11A cricket team hosted Duncombe School on the St Edmund's Prep Wicket. St Edmund's Prep batted first, with Freddie Knight opening and scoring 16 runs. Edward Hanley also scored well and retired on 23 runs; whilst Gus Lawrence (with 10 runs), Joshua Brody and Jonathan Fry (with 4 runs each) also batted very well. St Edmund's finished their innings with a total score of When Duncombe took

10 their turn to bat, a magnificent display of bowling and fielding from St Edmund's Prep saw the opposition's players restricted to scoring no more than 4 runs each. Freddie Knight, Jonathan Fry, Jack Davies and Gus Lawrence all claimed wickets. Morgan Davies was his usual steady self as the wicket keeper, giving another flawless performance, whilst Phoenix Healy also bowled tenaciously. Duncombe ended their innings on A very impressive victory for St Edmund's Prep. U9A W2 D0 L1 On Monday 13 th May, our U9A cricket team played Duncombe and won Finlay Kelly and Jack Davies were amongst the top scorers whilst batting, playing a range of skillful and well-timed shots. Liam Mays and Thomas Lewy both bowled very well, whilst Joshua Sowter claimed a wicket with his accurate deliveries. The U9A cricket team also fielded very well to secure a great victory. U7 Kwik Cricket A W1 D0 L0 On Monday 10th June, our U7 cricket team played against Hormead. In two thoroughly exciting innings, St Edmund's Prep finished victorious, winning by 106 runs to Hormead's 95. The team really enjoyed their first cricket match for the school and played very well.

11 Rounders Review W2 D1 L8 (11 matches) Sports Colours Awarded To: Lily Ridehalgh Rounders Captain- Lily Ridehalgh U11A W0 D0 L4 The U11A team finished off their season with a hard fought game against Forest School. Despite a slender first innings deficit they worked hard when batting in the second innings to set their hosts a target to reach. Good fielding and bowling from St Edmund s Prep throughout the match ensured that the match was still in the balance until near the final few balls but unfortunately the final few Forest batters scored to seal the victory. U11B W1 D0 L3 The U11B team won against Forest School by 8 ½ rounders to 5 1/2. Led by captain Emily Thomas, Angelique Kureya, Daniella Taiwo and Tioluwanimi Adebajo fielded very well indeed. Amy McParland was a dependable fielder on 4 th base and stumped out two opposition players during the match. Tioluwanimi Adebajo and Emily Thomas were amongst the scorers as St Edmund s Prep stormed to victory by 3 rounders.

12 U9A W1 D1 L1 On Wednesday 19 th June, the U9A team travelled to Forest School for their final rounders fixture. With many of the team having played for the older age groups and having trained every Monday night in the Summer Term in Squad Practises, all of their efforts came to fruition in their last match of the season. They won by 10 1 ½ rounders, with the spine of the team fielding impressively. Katie Scott at back stop, Ava Lawrence as bowler and Ayla Moore at second base gave a solid foundation, with some slick throwing and catching. Lilymai Woolfe and Ayla Moore also played really well as the U9 team notched up an excellent score when batting. Tournaments On Saturday 8th September, St Edmund's Prep travelled to Chigwell School for their annual football tournament that included the largest Prep Schools in the Essex area. The football tournament was organised into three groups with seven teams in each. St Edmund's Prep 'A' were placed in the top group alongside some very strong opposition. The team played some very impressive football, passing the ball very well and displaying good organisation when not in possession. In the first six games, the 'A' team won against Brentwood 'A', Chigwell 'A', Forest 'A' and St Aubyn's 'A', whilst drawing to Ilford Ursuline 'A' and narrowly losing to the hosts, Chigwell 'A'. The final game against Woodford Green Prep 'A' was extremely tight and despite going behind to an early goal our boys rallied to score two late goals and win their final match. This saw our Under 11's football team top their group in their first tournament of the year. A fantastic success! Our 'B' team also played very well in group three and had the enviable record of not having lost a match all afternoon. They won three matches and drew their other three games. The team also played magnificently well and scored some excellent goals. On Friday 5 th October St Edmund s Prep became Herts & Essex Champions of the Independent School Football Association (ISFA) U11 tournament. The boys were placed in an initial group with Loyola Prep, Forest Prep, Lockers Park, Ilford Ursuline and St Aubyn s. They won three and drew two of these games which set up a quarter final against FKS School. This game was won 2-0 which led to a semi-final against Snaresbrook Preparatory School. This was a very exciting game with some excellent game play from both teams and saw St Edmund s Prep eventually win 3-0. The team had a brief moment to collect their thoughts before they started the final match where they met very strong opposition from Forest who they had drawn against in the group matches. The boys raced in to a 2-0 lead only for Forest to score two late equalisers in the final minutes of the match. Extra time was a very tense affair but our boys worked together as a team and scored a last minute winner avoiding penalties. This fantastic win took St Edmund s Prep through to the ISFA National finals at the new ly opened National Football Centre; St Georges Park. Well done to all the U11 team: Joshua Brody, Edward Hanley, Phoenix Healy, Gus Lawrence, Morgan Davies, Oliver Knipe, Henry Jonscher and Matthew Kiwanuka.

13 The U11's Football 'A' team followed up their impressive win at the ISFA regional tournament at Chigwell by winning the ESFA District Cup on Wednesday 17 th October. They won their first game against St Andrew's of Much Hadham by seven goals to nil. The next game was against St Joseph's RC of Bishops Stortford. Our fantastic team won this game by a single goal to qualify for the ESFA County Finals. On Sunday 11 th November, St Edmund s Prep U11 s football team travelled to Kingshott School to play in their annual U11 football festival. With teams travelling from as far afield as Buckinghamshire, Inner London and Cambridge, the standard of teams at this tournament was probably the best that the boys had come across so far in their season. The opening group was very tough, including games against the Hitchin District representatives, Milton Keynes Prep (winners of the Oxon and Bucks Region of the ISFA regional qualifiers and fellow finalists at the ISFA Finals in April), the hosts Kingshott, Great Houghton and Lodge Farm. However, after remaining unbeaten and only conceding two goals, aswell as beating Lodge Farm 5-0 in the final group game, our boys progressed through to the semi-finals as Group Winners. In the semi-final against Edge Grove, our U11 s team raced into a three goal lead with a scintillating display of attacking football and finished the game as victors, 3-1. This set up a final against the other group winners, The Hall from Hampstead. Again, our boys started well and scored a quick goal which was defended resolutely until the end. The boys won 1-0 in the final to claim their fourth tournament trophy of the season!

14 On Wednesday 14 th November, the Form 4 and 5 football team travelled to Kingshott School to play in their annual U10 Football Festival. The first game was against a tough Kingshott team and despite falling behind to a goal in the first half our team rallied to win the game with two goals in the second period. The second game was against St Joseph s In The Park with a 2-1 victory also ending as the final result. The next opponents were Sherrardswood and our boys showed no mercy as they began to gel and play some great football, winning 8-0. The next match was against Milton Keynes Prep in what was a fascinating match ending in a 1-0 victory. The final match was against Kings College from Cambridge who had looked very strong in all of their previous games in an encounter that was to decide the overall winners. Our U10 team raced into a two goal lead and, despite conceding a goal just before half time, these proved sufficient to earn the team their fifth straight win by 2-1. The team played very well and improved impressively throughout the afternoon, their teamwork and organisation were very good and the attacking play was slick! On Saturday 9 th February, the unstoppable Under 11 football team travelled to St Albans to take part in the English Schools Football Association (ESFA) County Finals. They had the honour of representing the district of Bishops Stortford, after winning the district rounds in October, against the other district winners of the whole of Hertfordshire in a champion of champions tournament. The group games were against Greneway School (Royston), Haberdashers Aske s Prep School for Boys (Elstree) and St Joseph s Catholic School (Waltham Cross). In a tight first game, our team won 1-0 and comfortably controlled the match against Haberdashers Aske s Prep School for Boys. The second game was an even contest against the notoriously strong Greneway. This ended in a 0-0 draw thanks largely in part to Henry Jonscher, our goalkeeper, who saved a penalty close to the end of the match. Our third and final group match was won 4-0 against St Joseph s Catholic School to ensure that we finished as group winners with a goal difference of +5. Our semi-final pitted us against Oakmere (Potters Bar). This was a closely fought game with their goalkeeper making several fine saves. The match went to penalties with the two teams cancelling each other out in a goalless draw, but our boys again won through in the penalty shoot-out (with Henry Jonscher saving all of the penalties that he faced!) The final was against the first team that we had played at the beginning of the tournament, Haberdashers Aske s Prep School for Boys. Again, the match was extremely close but our captain Phoenix Healy scored a fine solo

15 effort in the last few moments of the game to secure victory (and the impressive feat of not having conceded a single goal all tournament). This ensured that the team qualified for the ESFA South of England Finals later in the year. In the Forest U9 Football Tournament on Friday 15th March our U9 football team reached the semi- finals before eventually losing to the winning team, Churchfields, in a close match. The U9 team played some excellent football and won their group by defeating Loyola, St Aubyns and Chigwell. The boys played very well and the future looks bright for them. The Wix County Finals were played at Wheatfields JMI in St Albans on Thursday 21st March. Our U11 side played two games, winning the first 3-1 against Haberdashers Aske s and losing the second against Greneway 2-4. We narrowly missed out on the next round by one goal! On Wednesday 20 th March, St Edmund s Prep s 5-a-side football team travelled to compete in the annual Woodford Green Prep School 5 A Side Tournament. Out of the fourteen competing schools, we narrowly missed out on topping the group by one point in our opening six matches. Gus Lawrence was particularly impressive with some neat, skillful touches and lots of excellent goals, whilst James Rose and Oscar Simmons caused the opposition lots of problems in attack, with their direct running and speed. Alvaro Rodriguez and Freddie Knight (our captain) were excellent in defence and helped to set up the attacks with some probing passes. Our goalkeepers Alejandro Rodriguez and Joshua Charsley, who took turns between the sticks, also pulled off a number of impressive saves. The semi-final was against Snaresbrook College and after a tight game that ended 0-0, St Edmund s Prep finished the tournament in joint third place.

16 After winning the regional and the county rounds of the ESFA Cup, St Edmund s travelled to Greenwich to compete in the ESFA South-East England Finals on Saturday 27 th April. As representatives of the Hertfordshire SFA, we were placed in a group with: Edmund Waller (representing Inner London SFA); Hardwick (representing Suffolk SFA); West Hove (representing Sussex SFA) and Cleves (representing Surrey SFA). In this competition, including the top schools (state and independent) from every county in the South-East of England, two draws against Edmund Waller and Cleves and two 0-1 losses against Hardwick and West Hove saw us eliminated at the group stage. ISFA National Football Finals at St Georges Park, Burton-Upon-Trent On Sunday 28 th April, the U11 Football Team from St Edmund s Prep travelled to St George s Park, the FA s new national football training centre, to play in the ISFA National Finals. Eighteen teams from all over England were there as the respective winners of each region from across the country, with St Edmund s Prep representing Hertfordshire And Essex as their regional champions. The team stayed the night in the St George s Park hotel in preparation for the tournament the next day. In an amazing setting where England s national football team train before their home internationals, the teams eagerly awaited their first mid-morning matches on Monday. In the group games, we drew our first match 0-0 against Gateway School from Buckinghamshire before beating Kings St Albans from Worcester, 1-0, with the crucial goal being scored by Phoenix Healy. This set the tone as the boys went from strength to strength and won all three of their remaining games to top the group. Some scintillating football, displaying superior passing and movement, resulted in a 5-0 victory against Hall Grove School from Surrey with Morgan Davies (2), Phoenix Healy, Freddie Knight and Oliver Knipe scoring; a 3-0 victory against Denmead from Middlesex with Morgan Davies, Phoenix Healy and Gus Lawrence grabbing the goals and a 1-0 win against RGS Newcastle thanks to a late goal by Gus Lawrence. The quarter final against The Hawthorns School from Surrey was won 4-1, with goals from Phoenix Healy, Morgan Davies (2) and Matthew Kiwanuka, setting up an exciting semi-final match against a very good team from Milton Keynes Prep. The match was very even, with both sides struggling to create many clear-cut chances against two wellorganised defences. The match went to penalties and our boys won through to reach the final. Up to this point, in seven games we had scored fourteen goals and conceded only one. In a great final match against RGS The Grange from Worcester it was a goal by our opposition in the first half that was to decide the match. St Edmund s Prep piled forward and went close on a few occasions to equalising but could not quite find that elusive goal. Second place in the ISFA National Finals was their ultimate reward. Aside from the aforementioned scorers, the team also included Henry Jonscher and Edward Hanley who marshalled the defence skilfully to ensure the best defensive record of the day belonged to our team and to Joshua Brody whose neat touches in the centre of the pitch were key to maintaining control over the midfield. Please see the ISFA Website for a full tournament report- Netball: On Saturday 8 th September, the netball U11A team travelled to Chigwell School to play in their first tournament of the season. They played two matches at the start of the day in their initial

17 group games, before qualifying for Group Two. The first match against the eventual winners Bancrofts 'A' ended in defeat, before our girls went on to beat Forest 'B' 4-0. Our netball U11A team then went on to beat Brentwood 'B' 2-0, Snaresbrook College 'A' 8-0 and draw with Woodford Green Prep 'A' 2-2 in a very exciting game. They then lost to Chigwell 'B' 1-3 and Avon House 0-3. This enabled the girls to finish in a very respectable 10th place out of the 18 participating teams. On Sunday 3 rd February, our U10A netball team travelled to play in the annual Haileybury Netball Tournament. They played five games and won two of them, finishing in seventh place out of ten teams. The initial group was very tough, with some teams playing an outstanding level of netball. After winning one of our games in the initial round, St Edmund s Prep were placed against Duncombe for the 7 th /8 th place play-off. In a very tight match, Niamh Beagon s deadly shooting eventually earned a hard-fought victory. The U9 players all played very well against older girls, whilst Daniella Taiwo also played very well in her first game as a Goal Keeper. On Saturday 2nd March, our U9 sports team played football, netball and hockey in the Kingshott Under 9 s Sports Festival against a number of other local prep schools. The highlights were a fantastic 2-0 victory in the first football match against Beechwood Park, an exciting 2-2 draw against the hosts, Kingshott, in the first netball match and two end-to-end hockey games that both ended in 0-0 draws. The 'Player of the Tournament' for St Edmund's Prep was Annabel Pattinson. Our U11 and U10 teams both travelled to Bancrofts School for their annual netball rally on Wednesday 6th March. The U11 team finished 13th and the U10 team finished 18th overall out of 28 schools.

18 On Saturday 9th March, our U11 Netball Team played very well at the annual St Francis' Netball Rally. They won their group, beating St Francis' College, Heathmount and Knebworth School in a series of exciting matches. The semi-final was against St Hilda's, and in a tense and end-to-end contest, our girls narrowly missed out on a place in the final. The playoff match for third place was drawn against Heathmount, which meant that the team finished joint third overall. Well done! Cricket: On Wednesday 19th June, we travelled to Bancrofts to play in their annual 6 a side cricket tournament. The standard of play was excellent, as we played three group matches in the blazing sunshine. We were placed in the top division and our first match was a game against Woodford Green Prep. The final score was St Edmund's Prep 51-1 and Woodford Green Prep 52-2, narrowly losing by just a single run. The next match was also an excellent game, with St Edmund's Prep beating Bancrofts 'B' 44-1 to The final group game against St Aubyn's was another high scoring affair, with some superb batting on display from both sides (and Freddie Knight scoring a spectacular six!) St Edmund's Prep scored 40-3, but again we were pipped by a single run as St Aubyns scored These results, strengthened by our excellent record of runs scored, enabled St Edmund's Prep to qualify for the semi-finals. In this match they played the eventual winners, Chigwell. St Edmund's batted first and scored a fantastic 47 runs with no wickets lost. However, Chigwell's oustanding batting pair managed to score 48 runs with five balls still left over. The boys played extremely well as a team, with each member playing their part and supporting eachother at all times. Morgan Davies was a magnificent wicket keeper, with his safe hands proving to be very reliable. Phoenix Healy scored 84 runs in total, with Freddie Knight scoring 50, Edward Hanley notching 23 and Joshua Brody claiming 3. Josh Brody, Freddie Knight and Morgan Davies also managed to take wickets over the course of the four games, whilst Gus Lawrence's bowling was accurate and restricted the opposition batsmen in their scoring. Rugby: At the Heathmount Rugby 7 s tournament during the Lent Term, St Edmund s Prep were drawn in a strong group with Heath Mount A and Kingshott. Despite putting in a spirited effort they lost two very close games both by a single try. They then played Heath Mount B and enjoyed a comfortable 30-0 victory. Notable performances on the day came from Henry Jonscher and Matthew Kiwanuka.

19 Overview Of All Other Sports Played Competitively Against Other Schools We continue to offer a varied and wide-ranging selection of sports fixtures to the children at the Prep School. We have competed in three Swimming Galas (U11 mixed and U10 mixed) this year at Heathmount and St Nicholas School. The first swimming gala ended in victory for St Edmund s Prep against St Nicholas, although we narrowly lost the other two. Our captain, Bryn Couser won the butterfly race; whilst Lily Ridehalgh was also in fine form, winning all of her races too. Swimming Captain- Bryn Couser During the Lent Term, our Prep School runners also enjoyed two Cross Country events (U11 mixed and U9 girls). Lily Ridehalgh finished 3 rd overall in the girls competition in the first annual St Edmund s College Cross-Country Meeting. Morgan Davies was St Edmund s Prep s best-placed finisher in the boys competition, finishing in 5 th place. A few weeks later, Lily Ridehalgh, Rebecca Marks, Ayla Moore, Ava Lawrence and Scarlett Mitchell travelled to Queenswood School to take part in their annual cross-country competition. With a large number of girls taking part, all of our competitors finished their races well and took part with great enthusiasm.

20 In the Trinity Term, we entered and hosted two Athletics events. We narrowly lost the first match, an U11A fixture against St Nicholas School. In a combination of field and track events, David Taiwo earned first place in the high jump, Emma Scott won the ball throw and Morgan Davies also won the 80 metre sprint and the long jump. During the second half of the term, we hosted the eagerly-anticipated and enjoyable U9 and U11 SportsHall Athletics match against Howe Green. There were lots of very impressive performances, with gold being awarded for first place finishes to: Finlay Kelly, Ayla Moore and Edward Hanley in the speed stepper; Morgan Davies in the standing long jump; Ayla Moore in the 10x10 metre shuttle run; Katie Conlon in the foam javelin and Niamh Beagon, Finlay Kelly and Katie Conlon on the balance test. Overall, St Edmund s Prep won the match On Tuesday 11th June, the St Edmund's Prep U10 Mini Orange Tennis team played in a tournament at St Albans Tennis Club. With ten other schools competing, our players had an opportunity to play many different matches against other players. One of our teams, consisting of Ben Feltham, Thomas Christie, Finlay Kelly and Matthew Parker, did really well to finish as overall runners-up! The standard of tennis was excellent, with all our children competing enthusiastically and with great team spirit. 21 On Tuesday 25 th June, a team of Form 6 golfers enjoyed an afternoon out at Essendon G&CC when they played a golf match against their local rivals from St Joseph s in the Park. The match was very close and the final score saw St Edmund s Prep win by 1 stroke- 255 strokes to 256 strokes. The lowest individual score was James Boyling who shot 33 followed closely by Jonathan Belt on 34. James Boyling also won a Nearest to the Pin prize and Gus Lawrence made two birdies in 9 holes. Campion, Southworth and Mayne competed against each other in matches including all children from Forms 3-6. The winners were: Football: Campion; Netball: Southworth; Hockey: Southworth; Rugby: Mayne; Cricket: Mayne; Rounders: Southworth; Swimming: Southworth and Cross Country: Campion. 22 Sports Day We held our annual Prep Sports Days on Friday 7th June (after the event was cancelled before half term due to heavy rain) and hosted it on the Front Field for the second year running. We invited DE Photo to take some pictures of our races and Holryd Howe caterers provided some delicious refreshments for parents. A programme of events for parents, an inclusive race schedule for the children (with each running in four races), a multitude of stickers and certificates and a Parents Race finale helped maintain the excitement and anticipation for our annual athletics event! At 1.00pm, the St Edmund s Prep Athletics Track was ablaze with colour, reds for Campion, greens for Southworth and blues for Mayne. There was also an audible buzz of anticipation as parents and children looked forward to the races. The event schedule started with the popular obstacle race, as children ran, threw, jumped, dribbled and dived their way to the finish line. Then came the rest of our track events on the straights, including the Grand House Relay and the 4x50 metre relays for Forms 3 and 4, before we moved over to the 200 metre track. Here we had the long distance races and the exciting 4x100 metre relays for Forms 5 and 6. The Grand House Relay Cup was won by Southworth in a thrilling race where the leaders seemed to change on every leg.
