1 2012/13 SEASON NEWS & INFO Issue /13 Season News & Info September 2012 TUNBRIDGE WELLS FORESTERS FC From the Chairman Hello All, I know when the start of the new season is nearly upon us when all the managers start requesting kit, equipment and friendlies. This season has seen our number swell to somewhere near 33 teams. Our men s squad who had a great first season and managed by Mike Beale enter their second season. We have the new U7 s under the watchful eyes of Julian Daddy who is also the clubs vice chairman and his trusty fellow coaches - a new dawn for these young budding players who have spent the past two seasons preparing for this! Our Development Squad is extremely popular and will have the largest intake in the clubs history, so good luck to Paul, Jennie and all those involved. Closed season CMG have been exceptionally busy with club matters. Paddy has had to register each and every team in to, Tandridge, Crowborough & West Kent Sunday League as well as keeping TWBC happy so our pitches are ready again for another season. Peter has been trying to ensure every Standing Order is set up with the right details ready for another Charter Standard inspection. In between all this the closed season saw Barrie our Director of Football run more of the hugely successful MasterClass camps and judging by the feedback (and big smiles) these were fantastic fun filled days! CMG would like to say a huge big thank you to everyone, especially Trevor Wells for making Presentation & Fun Day a huge success and we hope to announce the date for 2013 soon. Website & Social Media Much needed work on our website over the next few months should see some dramatic changes in the way the club interact with you; our members and players. In the meantime please join/ link to our Twitter and Face book pages new information is often added. Awards Foresters FC collected various awards last season, including league & tournament wins and plenty of runners up in various leagues. This achievement is fantastic and continues to underpin the club philosophy of Football for all in a safe and caring environment. U7 Team News Good luck to the U7 Athletico, Dynamo, Rapid and Sporting teams as play their first league games on the 22 nd September. U9 Team News After an unprecedented summer of sport and the occasional weekend lie in, the U9 s are back. A couple of inches taller and a few decibels louder, it s an unrecognisable bunch compared to those waspish 5 year olds that turned up for that first dev squad session in This season we are providing 2 CDJFL sides and 1 Tandridge side to accommodate the mixed ability and commitment levels within the squad (numbering c.25 boys). Throughout the year group we continue to focus on the fundamentals of football, it s an inclusive squad where attitude is valued above ability and progress is put ahead of winning at all costs. The aim of the coaching team (Tom Pepper, Keith Knight, Simon Howie and Joe Murphy) is to create a centre of excellence for local boys to enjoy and flourish in the greatest team sport on the planet. We are passionate about harnessing skills on and off the pitch that will stay with the boys for the rest of their lives. It s a proud honour to represent a great club like Foresters, the boys all know this and through hard work anything is possible. We have secured shirt sponsorship from AdEPT Telecom Plc (based in Tunbridge Wells) and have also secured tracksuit sponsorship from Sports Management Agency New Era Owned by Rio Ferdinand. How knows maybe we have a future England captain somewhere among us as we speak! Chairman s report continued.. Well done to all those teams, managers and coaches for your hard work, effort, commitment and above all else dedication to your team Foresters continues to grow. This is down to the players and managers/coaches in each year group who work so hard week in week out and of course the legions of parents who continue to support us all in what we want to do - be involved with "the beautiful game". As a club we are fortunate to have great people to help us which includes, Paddy, Barrie, Julian and Peter. Most of their work is invisible and rarely seen but without their valued input our great club would not be the same. We say goodbye to Carol who stands down and on behalf of the club thank her for all her hard work and dedication over the years. The next season ahead will be as tough if not tougher than the last. Foresters CMG wish each and every player, manager, coach and supporter the very best of sporting luck. People rarely succeed unless they are having fun in what they are doing. Whatever you do, do it well, to the best of your ability and for your team, but above all else do it because you enjoy it. And remember; Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. Enjoy your season. Stuart Newman Chairman FOR MORE INFORMATION Any membership enquiries should be sent to the main Foresters address or please talk to one of the coaches INFO contact@forestersfc.com

4 2012/13 SEASON NEWS & INFO Issue 1 4 Kit Donation The club has started to work with Tackle Africa to recycle old kit who then go on to donate it to good causes. The 1 st set of kit used by the U10 s a year ago and worn by the U6 side (see picture to right) that played in it in April 2012 has made its way to Africa. Since under 12 football in Kenya is played 8v8 the donation was split into three sets of 9 jerseys and shorts meaning three separate organisations would benefit. Donation 1 The first set was given to Rehema Day Care and Orphan Centre. The centre offers education to over 600 children from the surrounding communities of Korogocho and Kariobangi. They also provide a home for over 200 orphans and vulnerable children. The kit was donated in one of the school classrooms following a training session on the local football pitch. Jarius Misango, coach of the team was very thankful; Thank you so much to Foresters Football club. This is our first ever set of jerseys. We are so excited. The children want to go straight back on the field even though we have just finished training. We will be very proud when we wear them. Young player Jackson Kithome was also very pleased; The jersey are amazing, they will help our team. We will train harder, play our best and be very proud. I can t wait to wear them in our next game, everyone will want to play. Thank you for the donation At training there were around 60 players. Now there is a kit Coach Elijah Owino believes there will be many more tomorrow. The jerseys are a big motivation. Everyone will want to play which means more children exercising and learning. It is a great thing, thank you Donation 2 The second set of kit was donated to Carolina for Kibera. The organisation, based in Kibera, Nairobi, uses sport to mobilise hundreds of young people across the slum. Boys and girls of all ages are invited to represent the Kings and Queens teams in a number of sports ranging from football to skipping. Ruth Mueni, one of the coach/peer educators told us a little more. At Carolina for Kibera we offer life skills and health education each week to allow young people to discuss issues from their community. We run many different programs that involve sport as the children enjoy playing and exercise. We even go outside Kibera with the children to share ideas and activities with other organisations. This helps us find solutions to any challenges. Fun Day 2012 Tunbridge Wells Foresters Football Club celebrated their annual fun day on Saturday 9 th June 2012 in glorious sunshine. Hundreds of footballers, from under-5s to adults, enjoyed a great day of activities at Bayham Recreation Ground. They also had the chance to meet football legend and guest of honour Alan Curbishley, who managed West Ham and Charlton. The fundraising day was a celebration of the past year, the club's 30th, and the start of preparations for another season in a number of different competitions, including the Crowborough and Tandridge Leagues. Thank you to all those that helped to make the day successful. Look out for 2013 Fun Day dates coming soon.

6 2012/13 SEASON NEWS & INFO Issue 1 6 FA Respect Respect is the collective responsibility of everyone involved in football to create a fair, safe and enjoyable environment in which the game can take place. Guide Link. Introduction Codes of Conduct aren't new and are already in use by some clubs (it is mandatory for Charter Standard clubs). Respect brings them to life. How? By supporting and strengthening the Codes of Conduct with possible consequences. There is little point in having a set of rules if no action is taken if and when they're broken. Respect affects the entire game, and needs your help, regardless of how you are involved in football. Player Coach Referee Parents and Spectators Club and League Officials Club Welfare Officers Youth League Welfare Officers County FA Welfare Officers PLAYERS Whether you're in the starting team or on the bench, your role as a player is crucial to the success of Respect. On a matchday, you'll be expected to work with your coaches and your captain to allow the referee to manage the game without being subjected to abuse. With the game losing thousands of referees from the game every year, it's hugely important, because without the referees, the game isn't the same. If the league you play in adopts the Respect programme, you will be asked to read, agree to, and sign, a Code of Conduct at your club. This will be your 'promise' to abide by a set of rules governing your behavior as a player. Working together with your coach, your captain, and each referee that takes charge of your games during the season, you can play a major role in improving the game for everyone, through Respect. COACHES Coaches have a hugely important role to play in Respect, as they are not only responsible for their own behavior, but they can also influence that of their players and spectators, too. On a match day, you'll be expected to work with your players, parents and other spectators to allow the referee to manage the game without being subjected to abuse. REFEREES The Respect programme aims to allow Referees to officiate matches without being subjected to abuse by players, coaches or spectators - and the referees themselves have a key part to play in the process. Working in partnership with the clubs they officiate, referees can provide post-match feedback regarding the behaviour of players, parents, coaches and other spectators, to help the clubs enforce their Codes of Conduct. PARENTS AND SPECTATORS Parents have a big responsibility as part of the Respect programme. Respect is working to eradicate touchline abuse in football, and parents can play their part by agreeing to, and signing, their club's Code of Conduct and abiding by them throughout the season. Parents also have a responsibility for their children's behaviour. The players will also be asked to sign a Code of Conduct, and parents can encourage their children to adhere to the players' code. CLUB AND LEAGUE OFFICIALS The Respect programme relies on clubs and leagues to take active steps to ensure high standards of conduct throughout their club or league. Leagues can champion the Respect programme, and communicate the importance of Respect to their member clubs through meetings and bulletins Codes of Conduct There are five Codes of Conduct, each listing possible penalties for breaking these 'promises'. The Codes are aimed at: Young Players (link) Adult Players Spectators and Parents/Carers (link) Coaches and Club Officials (link) Match Officials I have also put these documents on the Teamer site (link). Respect works on placing responsibility for their actions on individuals: break your Code, and bear the consequences. 2012/13 Season News & Info PO Box 158 Tunbridge Wells TN2 9AZ
