19 ANNEX 2: FNSW STATE TEAM CULTURE Developing a team culture is of high importance to FNSW to develop an environment within the program that not only develops a player s footballing talent, but also enables leadership qualities and individual responsibility on a personal level. Developing effective team culture is achieved by establishing leaders within the team. The goal and objective is to identify a leadership group for each team. Traditionally, football teams have one leader, a captain, appointed by the coach. Whilst recognising the importance a captain plays within a team, FNSW believes that establishing a group of leaders, rather than having just one individual leader, is far more effective. Reasons for this include; Increased leadership responsibilities amongst the team; Enabling the team to have more than one leader on the field at any one time; and The ability to challenge members of the team without excluding one member alone. In the FNSW State Teams Program, the Leadership Group is appointed by its peers through a voting system. In addition to identifying leaders, the process is important in developing and fostering players for future representative teams. ESTABLISHING THE LEADERSHIP GROUP Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Players will complete a leadership nomination form. Players elect team mates on the basis of who they identify as a leader. The point system is a 3, 2, 1 based system. A Leadership Group will be formed of between 3-4 players. One player from among that group will be appointed the Team Captain. Tasks will be assigned to the Leadership Group with individual roles being assigned to each member of that group as well as to the Leadership Group as a whole. MENTORING THE LEADERSHIP GROUP The Head Coach and staff will mentor the Leadership Group throughout the training process and competition. The Head Coach will convene team meetings after training/camps/competition. These meeting will be conducted with all staff present and include the Head Coach s address, Leadership Group agenda items and a brief individual verbal assessment to the team. Page 19 of 25

If a child has a disability, impairment or condition, then the parent/legal guardian must disclose this to FNSW immediately. 14. POLICIES AND REGULATIONS The parent/legal guardian agrees to be bound by and comply with all relevant rules, regulations and policies issued by FNSW and FFA including, but not limited to, the FNSW Grievance & Disciplinary Regulations, the FFA Spectator Code of Behaviour and the FFA National Member Protection Policy accessible on the FNSW and FFA websites or available on request. 15. DISCIPLINARY ACTION If a Player is caught in possession of any prohibited item under this Agreement or displays inappropriate behaviour, FNSW may investigate the matter and, in its absolute discretion, determine whether to suspend (for a period of time), not select or terminate the Player s participation in the FNSW State Team. A decision made by FNSW is not subject to review or appeal. The parent/legal guardian acknowledges and agrees that his/her failure to comply this Agreement may result in his/her child/dependent being suspended (for a period of time), not selected or removed from a FNSW State Team. Such a sanction may be in addition to any sanction imposed on the parent/legal guardian. 16. REFUND OF REGISTRATION MONIES A Player may apply to FNSW for a refund of registration monies in the following circumstances: (a) (b) (c) where a Player gets injured and cannot participate any further in the FNSW State Team; where a Player no longer wishes to participate in the FNSW State Team; and cancellation or changes to the location or time of a camp. For the avoidance of doubt, a Player that has been disciplined by FNSW and has subsequently been removed from participation in FNSW State Team, is ineligible for a refund. A Player must make a written application to FNSW for a refund. A decision made by Football NSW is final and not subject to review. Agreed and confirmed: Player s Name Dated: Page 24 of 25
