GEORGETOWN 2028 WHERE THE IDEA STARTED

GOOD PLANS... Create a shared vision and direction for a community Align the investments and actions of key public and private players stakeholders, partners, investors and developers Help a community tackle bigger challenges and opportunities by taking a long-term view Build strong working relationships and partnerships

WHAT IS GEORGETOWN 2028? Georgetown 2028 is a collaborative planning process that will develop (i) a strategic vision for Georgetown - ensuring that it remains a world-class commercial district economically, physically, environmentally and (ii) an agenda for actions that can be taken today and in the coming years to see this vision realized. 2028

To preserve what is good

To renew what we have

Build what we need

to avoid creating this.

GEORGETOWN 2028 FIFTEEN YEAR ACTION PLAN Preserve Enhance Create

TRANSPORTATION 75 Action Items 43 Transportation 23 Public Space 9 Economy

Establish Georgetown as a Bicycle-Friendly Destination Connecting bicycle facilities that currently bring cyclists only to the edge of the commercial district Implementing a high quality bike connection between the Capital Crescent Trail and Rock Creek Parkway Trail, such as adding a cycletrack on Water and K Streets Expanding bicycle parking by installing in-street bike corrals throughout commercial areas just off of main corridors Improving bikesharing options by identifying at least four new locations for Capital Bikeshare stations in the commercial district What s a Cycle Track? Bicycle lanes running parallel along a roadway that are separated from automobile traffic by a physical barrier are known as cycle tracks. Buffers can include bollards, parked cars, landscaping or a curb. Data shows cycle tracks increase the number of cyclists by improving the perception of safety. They are particularly beneficial in intersections with limited automobile traffic.

Other Transportation Action Items Involved Improve the safety and convenience of pedestrian crossings Improve tour bus parking options Create more welcoming places for people waiting for the bus Coordinate off-street parking resources to make off-peak capacity available

WHAT S NEXT DDOT Currently working on 30% design Push to install using temporary measures in Spring/Summer 2017 With Paint, Horse Troughs, Plants, Flex Posts, Bollards, & Signage, we can complete this project quickly, effectively, and cheaply Scaffolding Bridge needs agreement from NPS, followed by design planning for a permanent bridge Boathouse zone changes will wait for Key Bridge Reconstrux to conclude Permanent changes west of 34 th can be done with Boathouse construction Streetcar plans will need to ensure bike accommodation prior to construx, we developed a concept plan for a trail south of the sidewalk for that scenario Piloting now w/temp construx allows us to iterate better when other changes come to the corridor Streetcar, Boathouses, or something else.
