Register Now! http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/iowa4hyouthconference Lamb/Goat Workshop Sheep & Goat Exhibitors You re invited to a workshop in Lee County May 20th from 9:00-12:00 RSVP: Lee County Extension 319-835-5116 4-H Club Fundraiser The second Saturday of the Month April-Sept there will be a small animal Swap Meet at the Louisa County Fairgrounds. 4-H clubs are encouraged to sign up to work in the Onion Shoppe and then receive 10% of the profits from the day. Sign Up sheet is available at the Extension Office. Aug 12th is still open Each shift requires 5-7 4-H members over the age of 12. May 15th Animal Deadline Reminder all Livestock 4-H & FFA must be Identified by May 15th. (Poultry & Rabbits Exempt) Animals who attend a weigh-in are put into 4honline by Extension Staff. Any animal who does not attend a weigh-in must be entered into 4honline by the 4-H family. Examples Breeding Beef, Bottle Calf, Feeder Calf, Dogs, & Swine Help sheets are available and will be emailed out to each family. FFA animals also need to be Identified by this date. 2
Swine Tagging If you will be taking pigs to the Iowa State Fair 4-H show you must contact the Extension Office to arrange for tagging. **County Fair Swine tags can also be purchased at the Extension office. **AkSarBen Swine nominations due to the Extension Office by May 15th ** All Swine must be ID ed by May 15th Bottle Calves Calves for this class need to be born between 1/1/17 5/15/17 and in possession of the member within 2 weeks of birth. Bottle calves must be identified by May 15 in 4honline. 4-H ear tags are available at the Extension Office. Records are required for this project and must be brought to the interview during the fair. A record form template will be available online at the Louisa County 4-H page. Sheep & Goat Weigh-In All Sheep & Goats must attend Spring Weigh-In May 6th from 7:00am-10:00am at the Louisa County Fairgrounds ID forms will be emailed out prior to weigh-in to help speed up the process AkSarBen 4-H er must have completed 5 th grade. Swine, must have hair collected for DNA - $5 per head. Market sheep and meat goats will be retinal scanned at Weigh-in $5 per head. Animals must be identified and DNA collected and to Extension Office by May 15th. Dog Training Classes Beginning First year dogs begin Sunday May 7th at 5:30. Second year dogs & beyond may come at this time for review Second year and beyond dogs begin June 4th at 6:00pm. Classes will continue weekly (with Holiday exceptions) until fair. A schedule will be available at class. All classes will take place at the Fairgrounds Variety Theater. New FSQA Guidelines - All Livestock Exhibitors 4-H & FFA Between March 1 st and July 1 st all FFA and 4-H livestock exhibitors will need to complete their certification for the year. This will be done annually with a fee of $12 per exhibitor per year. There will be no test out option in the future. A perk for FFA kids - this certification program will cover you through the age of 21. How do I get Certified? ONLINE! Log-in to yqca.org with your 4honline log-in. YQCA Internet Availability Offered Any 4-H member needing assistance or internet availability please utilize our open ipad lab hours to complete your YQCA certification. April 26th Youth Center ipad Lab open for use from 6:00-8:00pm May 25th Extension Office ipad Lab open for use 8:00am-4:30pm New Housing at County Fair Sheep Goat and Swine Exhibitors should be feeling much less crowded at this year s County Fair. The Fair Board is currently working on housing adjustments to accommodate our large number of sheep, goats and swine. Sheep and Swine will remain in the same barn as the past attached to the show ring. Goats will now be housed in a new to them barn formally know as Cattle Barn 2. Cement work and new pens are going to be installed to allow room for everyone as well as tack! YEAH! If any family or club would like to make a financial contribution to this project please make checks payable to Louisa County Fair Board Pen Project. 5
2017 LOUISA COUNTY FAIR Checklist of Requirements for non-livestock 4-H exhibits State Fair exhibitors will be selected by county fair judges.
