ANDY S SLAP SHOT While I was hiking the picturesque hills of Saratoga Springs, NY many hardy Dare Devils parents endured cold temperatures at our favorite ice box in Brick NJ. Thanks to Glenn Ostlund for the temperature reading! The Dare Devils defeated the Stars in a nail bitter 2-1. Goalie Matt Donnelly was superb in the net blocking shot after shot from the mighty Stars. Goals were scored by Will Trampota and Michael Niemann. All our players came prepared for battle and exhibited the utmost in sportsmanship! Look out coaches, Angie made an appearance on the bench and did a great job! Coach Ritter will be in Washington DC on Wednesday November 16th for Special Hockey Day on Capital Hill. Steve will be meeting with representatives from New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida. Good luck Coach, make us proud! Codey Arena hockey player Ryan Harte and his family lost their home to a devastating fire that occurred last week. CAPITAN S CORNER Greetings Dare Devils Family: A few of the kids recently have asked where Ryan was as he didn t make the Storm game or a practice. The Ole Cap has become quite the busy man. Along with his full-time college schedule, belonging to two church groups, singing in the Choir, practicing his trumpet and his volunteer work, Ryan s college is attempting to restart their hockey team, which folded a few years ago. So when the call went out desperately seeking players, Ryan stepped up to the challenge and joined the team. The team is very short benched and we all know what that means. They are getting their butts kicked during this rebuilding period, physically and on the scoreboard. He is playing against kids/men that are the strongest, biggest, fastest, sometimes meanest and smartest hockey players he will ever face, and it s not easy for him, yet he is hanging in there, doing his best to help his team. In 6 games they have been outscored 59-10, half the team is playing hurt, best player out with a concussion, Ryan playing thru a bad shoulder and infection and the list goes on, but that s hockey. He has played in Newark, Albany, New London CT, Allentown, PA, and will be in New Haven CT, Syosset Long Island and Pelham, with more games being added as they are playing as an independent right now. Ryan is rather humbled by the whole experience and knows he is doing something very few kids like him will ever have a chance to do, and he does it with pride. So if you don t see Ole Cap here and there you ll know why. Luckily the schedule of games has been somewhat favorable as he was able to make Buffalo and the year end Tournaments he should make too. Nobody loves the Daredevils more than Ryan and has done so since 2002, he will miss some games and practices here and there, which he is bummed about, but he realizes that his college hockey career is only a 2 year window 3 tops, and then it is over. So keep your fingers crossed for the Ole Cap and he will see you as much as he can. Best Always, The Griffin Gang PS. Although scoring a goal at this level will be very difficult, he does have a primary assist so he is on the stat sheet, he was very happy about that. The photo is Mr. Smiley after his assist. The link is a radio broadcast, I was able to snip off the few times they called his name and number, which he got a real kick out of, thought you might too. See you soon.
