Newton St. Cyres Primary School Newsletter 28 th April 2017 EXECUTIVE HEADTEACHER - MR JOLLIFFE SUMMER TERM 1 WEEK 28 2016/2017 FROM MR JOLLIFFE The residential visit season is underway and this week Year 4 have been to Beam House, a PGL venue near Great Torrington. I spent Wednesday afternoon with them and everyone was having a great time. It was really super to see the children from the three schools working so well together on the different activities. As soon as they arrived, the children were off to do quad biking, archery and the zip wire! Many thanks to all the staff who have given up their time to organise and take part in this visit. Dear Parents and Guardians, It s been a fun packed week in school this week. The year 4s are currently on residential and they are having a fantastic time at Beam House in Torrington. They have been taking part in a mixture of activities ranging from archery to zip wire and it s been great to see them mixing with the other federation schools. You can see more photos below. I would like to say a huge well done to the football and tag rugby teams who played various matches on Monday night. The football team played their final match in the Exeter Football League. With a few new squad members, they played brilliantly as a team and they can all feel very proud of their season s efforts. The tag rugby team played 6 matches on Monday and once again were a credit to the school. They won their pool scoring some fantastic tries along the way. Our staff meeting this week looked at testing arrangements and staff are now finalising plans for the SATs tests and end of year assessments. We try to make these times as stress free as possible however should you or your children have any concerns then please come and see me at your earliest convenience. Finally, I would like to wish our Exmoor Challenge children the best of luck as they set off on their 16 mile trek across Exmoor tomorrow. Danny and Harry are being joined by Ben Baxter who completed this challenge last year to form team to compete against other schools in Dulverton. Good luck lads! I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Best Wishes James Akhurst

PRESCHOOL REPORT This week we have taken advantage of the lovely weather by doing lots of activities outside in the sunshine. We had great fun doing a phonics obstacle course, making dens with blankets outside, mark making in our new tent, and we even had a picnic in the sunshine during snack time. As we are spending more time outside, please could children bring in a sun hat and sun cream. We would like to start clearing the weeds and prepare our garden ready for the summer, so that the children can fully enjoy the outside area. We would like to start growing some fruit and vegetables in one area, and I would like to make a fairy garden and dinosaur swamp too, if there is anyone who would like to help us it would be greatly appreciated Especially as I don t have green fingers! We would really appreciate any of the following items so that we can provide the children with some interesting activities We are looking for Torches and head torches, which must be in very good working order Glow in the dark stars White fairy lights, which are battery operated. Big cardboard boxes Sand for our sandpit I hope you all have a lovely weekend Shelley Choudhury Deputy Manager
