1 T O W N S E N D H O U S E Townsend Teller V O L U M E 2, I S S U E 6 J U N E Fun Day 19TH JUNE To celebrate National Care Home Open Day, National Picnic Week and the fact that England will be hosting the Rugby World Cup this year (we like to cover all bases!) we are holding a Rugby themed Fun Day complete with a picnic on the 19th June Residents, friends and family are all invited to join us for lunch out on the lawn (with a pint or two!) followed by an afternoon of rugby (any volunteers for the scrum are welcome!) We will also be holding a raffle on the day with top prizes, including a rugby ball signed by Gloucester Rugby players and tickets to the Sevens Tournament to be played at Kingsholm in August. We would love to see you all there and please bring the sunshine with you! Wish Tree Our Wish Tree is still up and running in the main reception area. Please feel free to add to it (staff, friends and family alike). It has been really enjoyable discussing with you all the things that are important to each of you, and talking about how you see yourselves being remembered. Although the tree was only initially going to be there as part of Dying Matters Week, due to the positive response we have had we have decided to leave it up a while longer for you all to enjoy.
2 P A G E 2 Last Month s Activities Joy and Gladys enjoying a game of bingo with the girls Brownie Visit- The Bingo Night with the Mitcheldean Brownies was great fun. Two girls were paired up with each resident for 2 games of bingo. There were prizes for everyone and a sing song at the end! VE Day- Unfortunately the British weather meant that our Garden Party had to be held indoors. But that didn t stop us from celebrating in style with Morris Dancers, cake and silly hats! Dementia Awareness Week This week consisted of lots of activities to stimulate the senses, including a pamper party with the Body Shop, cake baking and a chocolate tasting afternoon. Needless to say we all enjoyed that! Coming up this month... Tea Tasting G Fitness Rugby is a thug s game played by gentlemen (4th)- We will be trying a selection of different flavoured tea s to see which we like best, and if anything can beat a nice hot cuppa! We will have Peppermint, Apple and Cinnamon, Red Berry and Lemon and Ginger on offer! (15th)- After the success of his last session with us, we have invited Simon from G Fitness back to hold a regular exercise afternoon for us. So flex those muscles and wiggle those toes to get you all warmed up for this one! Rugby Fun Day (19th) To celebrate the fact that England are hosting the Rugby World Cup this year we are having a theme day to celebrate with rugby demonstrations, a crossbar challenge and pork and stuffing rolls for lunch! 4 P A G E 4 Gardening Competition The Gardening Competition is to be judged at the end of this month and things are starting to take shape. Care Leader Karen came in with her boys to create a lovely sensory garden or us, the memory bed is underway in the courtyard (everybody is welcome to plant in there) and plans for the Secret Garden are coming along nicely. Hopefully the weather will enable us to get out and enjoy it! Sarah Leaving Residents enjoying the Morris Dancing on VE Day It is with great sadness that I write this last Newsletter to you all. As most of you now know, I am going to be leaving Townsend House this month. I have been offered an opportunity in New York which I could not turn down! It has not been an easy decision as you have all made me feel so welcome. I could not have asked for a better introduction into the world of work and I will remember you all for years to come. I hope that you have enjoyed my time here as much as I have, it has been a real pleasure! I will come back in to visit (if you ll have me!) so this isn t really goodbye, but thank you :) Leavers and Starters We have had no new leavers or starters this month T O W N S E N D T E L L E R
